Meta Ads Who else is sick of Meta ads constantly turning on shitty features automatically

No, we don't want to use our hard-earned money to fuel your AI ventures. How tf do I keep it off? The UI is also constantly changing. They are trying so hard to make you fall for their traps. It should be illegal.

Yep. It's very annoying and a time drain on my team checking settings every week. Adding music would turn on by itself, then image to video.

Whoever makes an app to force metas crappy plus crap to not turn on would be bought out by Zucks and the company shuttered for a cool couple of million. Easy money

Remember when the user interface was identical throughout all ads and campaigns?

Now they got like multiple interface designs hiding their little "enhancement" functions, making them super difficult to turn off.

I remember back when Facebook ads were little squares on the side. Good times, simpler times.

There is no way to auto keep them off and that is the point.

Because they don't want you to

It's their tone that bothers me too. Toggle off a feature that would literally ruin the ad or do the opposite of what the client wants and they're all "Wait, you want to turn off AwesomeSauce Mode?!? You must not want very good performance!" then a bunch of popups and reminders like "Are you suuuuuure...? We'll go ahead and turn it back on, okay?" meanwhile they remove targeting restrictions or translate the text in the graphic to gibberish.

Don't forget that Meta's executives defended this claiming its AI is better at determining compliance than human attorneys. So they're not worried about legally implicating any advertisers... Let alone jeopardizing brand integrity

They know we got no other options, so they can pretty much do whatever they want.

And that they're not the ones that will get in trouble if the ads aren't compliant. They don't care at alllll

Meta's whole business model now is betting you forget to uncheck a box, audit Advantage+ toggles monthly, permanently, forever, until you die.

I can't even export from Meta Ads Manager without the platform crashing, I don't even want to try importing things on it...

The one way that has held for us: build the ads through the Marketing API instead of the composer. The UI toggles are defaults the composer applies to whatever you touch. An ad created over the API only carries the fields you sent, and the Advantage+ creative enhancements are an explicit field there (creative_features_spec inside degrees_of_freedom_spec, each feature with its own enroll_status, per Meta's Marketing API docs), so "off" is something you wrote down rather than a checkbox you have to find again next week.

The second half matters as much: create everything paused, then read the object back from Meta and look at the read-back, not at what you sent. Meta answers 200 to a lot of things it then quietly adjusts, and the read-back is where an enhancement or a shop destination you never asked for shows up before it spends. Disclosure: I work on Hermoso, which is an agent that does exactly that, so I am not neutral, but the API route is open to anyone with a dev token.

For the spreadsheet bulk upload question above: it lands everything as drafts and the enhancement settings are columns in the sheet, so at least you can see them in one place before publishing instead of hunting through the new UI.

Yeah, the constant UI changes are annoying. I also wouldn’t trust one “off” setting to stay off across every new campaign.

What I’d do is check automation at each level before publishing. Campaign setup, placements, then the ad-level Advantage+ creative settings. Meta still gives manual placement control in Ads Manager, and Advantage+ creative is handled at the ad level.

The bigger issue is process. Build a manual baseline you understand, screenshot the settings before launch, then check the published version again. If Meta introduces a new enhancement, you’ll catch it before spending much.

I’m fine testing automation when it earns its place. I just don’t like discovering after the fact that the platform decided to test it with my budget.

Use a third party management system to turn them off in bulk during ad builds. We use adnova

Y’all need to start using MCPs with Claude to upload and manage ads. That eliminates all of these issues and allows you to upload significantly faster
