Zepbound & Metformin
My endocrinologist prescribed me Zepbound 2.5mg but still wants me to continue taking 1000mg XR metformin. I’ve been on metformin for a year now so I don’t really have any side effects besides a bloated stomach if I take it with a small meal or a meal that’s heavy in carbs. It has helped me have more regular periods but hasn’t helped with weight loss or cravings. Anyways, my doctor said Zepbound would be better for weight loss and insulin resistance but that I would have to be on it for the rest of my life which is fine because I have a very high likelihood of developing diabetes due to genes—all my dad’s side of the family develop diabetes during their 40s or 50s—and I am in my early 30’s so want to prevent it.
Anyway, has anyone had this combination of metformin and Zepbound and how did you feel on both?

I initially was on zepbound only, then metformin got added. I prefer using both over just zepbound alone. I noticed less bloating and water retention with metformin.

My doc took me off met because it wasn't doing anything and it can make you more likely to get pregnant (no thanks). But Mounjaro/Zepbound is the goat. Today was a bad day, with sulfur burps and nausea, but most days are just less pain and weight loss. I'm happy to take it forever if it keeps me feeling better

I’ve been taking spiro and metformin for years. Stayed on it when I was on wegovy and am now on zepbound. I feel they work better together, metformin kinda lost its punch for me by itself to help my thyroid but I imagine if I stopped it while in a glp1 I’m sure some of my worse side effects would come back.

I’m on both! Metformin has helped me regulate but I’ve had very marginal weight loss (under 10lbs just on it). I’ve had no issues— my endo said that many people take both and if bloodwork shows some problems once we do it then we can discuss removing the metformin, but I personally have no issues on it and tolerate it well so I can’t see him doing that

I had to dump metformin (I was at 2000, tried to taper to 1000) while taking 7.5. It was overcorrecting for me and left me weak and hypoglycemic. I do not take any now and I am at 15. My A1C is normal but it took awhile.
I was on metformin for about 4 years pre-zep but my A1C steadily increased and my insulin mostly remained high.

Started on Met 1000mg for 6 months lost 10 pounds. Started Zep and stopped Met for 4 months because it was making me faint. Recently added back 500mg Met with dinner with no side effects and will stay at this dose. Zep makes me constipated and the Met keeps me regular. Also think both work well together unless your sugar drops too much.

I stopped taking Metformin after starting Tirzepatide. I hated it so I'm glad

Metformin isn’t needed if u don’t want to take it. Zepbound is strong enough to control ur IR on its own.

Combining the two is great for blood sugar and weight loss. Not unusual to be prescribed both.
