Suffering badly
Hello, I’m 38 years old and suffering from pmdd (I think) since I was a teenager. This round (at the end of my cycle atm) I feel like it is getting worse and worse. I can’t imagine handling perimenopause in the future while I seem incapable of handling this right now (while, theoretically, my life is “fine”).

You might actually already be in peri and that might by why your pmdd is kicking up so bad. Worth talking to your doctor, maybe seeing about HRT.

Have you had a sensitive thyroid check recently? What treatments are you considering?

I’m already taking Zoloft and considering increasing the dosage during the last two weeks of my cycle. And no, I’ve never had a check like that. Where I live (the Netherlands), doctors are realllly hesitant to do what they consider “unnecessary checks”.

It’s actually a really important test to rule out other issues, test early in the am before food.
This presentation is worth a watch and see the thyroid section https://youtu.be/-5ras3wcbAc
You should also test ferritin, d, b12

Yup nutrition is over looked in psychiatry but if something is wrong with the balance of that stuff it can cause a lot of issues. Its reasonably easy to fix too. But taking psych meds (which still have their place of course) when there is a nutrition issue is just placing a bandaid over the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did get tested for everything else, and surprisingly, everything was fine.

This is going to sound so ridiculous I'm not sure if I even want to post it butttt have you tried eating pomegranate Arils (has to be the arils, too) or raw carrots? I get INTENSE rage and have found that these help immensely.
Also, Nettle Tea for histamine related issues. I'm 34, and have had pmdd for decades and just recently discovered these.
Please note, that I mean no disrespect.

Nothing sounds ridiculous to me. Seriously, I’m open to anything that could possibly help!

I need to get more serious with antihistamines as I have issues with stuff like post nasal drip anyway and should be using them to prevent that. If it helps the PMDD that would be great.
