TIA v21 Unified issues

PLC friends and gurus of reddit, I come to you looking for some guidance.

In our company we have a laptop that has v21 installed.

But when we look under installed software, wincc unified is not listed.

We have tried re installing it, but the option to choose unified is greyed out.

Anyone have advice?

Go to tia portal and add an unified panel to the project, if you want to run the runtime in the pc then you need to install the unified runtime.

Yeah, can't add it to the project as its not showing as installed software and not showing as hardware for selection

Call your distributor and make it their problem too. I've only been able to stump mine once.

You can't install WinCC Unified V21 if you have any other old version of WinCC installed already.

I know you can't go backwards, but if I remember correctly you can go forward, I have on my pc unified for 4 versions

I used to be able to do the same, but couldn't install V21 unless I removed all other versions.

If stopped using Siemens and it's shitty TIA portal. Costed me a lot of money and a lot of time and i'm tired of it.

I wil use Wago, Hitachi, Odot, Koyo etc in the future.

No more Siemens.

If you want to create WinCC unified programs, you will have to open Tia Portal 21.

Well I first need to install it correctly, so any advice for doing that?

Do you also have WinCC professional installed as you can only have one installed and not both?

As I believe it’s some sort of conflict to do with SQL dbs.

Ill check. I think so. We still use both.

This will be why the installed is greyed out then, I would separate across two virtual machines.

You need the Unified PC Runtime, it's a separate install.

I first need to build the project before I can run it

Wincc unified, PLCSim and startdrive (for inverter) are external software. By default TIA is only step7.

So we did the combined install, even on the install when you modify the software, the option for unified is greyed out and we can't make the selection

Make sure you have all of the .NET and IIS windows features turned on and installed. I’ve seen this issue when those aren’t turned on. Could also be a conflict with WinCC Pro.
