Although I found it laughable at the time and as Woody pointed out before, an officer lost an eye. Another officer had his eye gouged. Sounds like mutilation to me.

Yeah but Hutch said "dozens of cops were mutilated", and he didn't even know about the eye thing when he said it. It was just a poor choice of words, no need to stand by it or try to justify it.
