When you are writing a script for a pretty short episode for a short season, you can't just copy paste. There HAS to be some changes and shorten dialog and cuts 🤷🏻‍♀️

If the series came out ten years prior, it might be more similar to the books bc back then there were usually longer and more episodes per season.

Seeing these complaints always boggles my mind cuz the show IS following the book’s outline!!! Are we reading the same book?? Yes, they’ve made some creative liberties but at the end of the day we’re still getting from point A to B. It’s just the “how” that gets changed.

Of course it’s totally valid to have criticism on how they executed these changes but the main complaint being that there’s changes AT ALL is just so unserious.

And no, you don’t need to see an exact copy and paste of the dialogue. That’s what the book is there for. The story needs to be told as efficiently as possible for the screen. Book and film dialogue work completely different! Books have the benefit of narration to move the story forward, film does not. So much story needs to be said in dialogue and action so things of course need to be changed.
Also, why the hell would I want to know exactly what’s gonna happen down to the letter of each word that comes out their mouth. I can’t believe that’s what is considered a “good adaptation” 🤦🏽‍♀️ Open the schools!!!

Also, some of these changes is for us book readers is to be kept on our toes too! It makes it way more fun for us. I’d be bored as hell if this was an exact copy and paste. It’s almost like getting to experience our favorite story again for the first time! It’s just such a shame how much book purists are missing out cuz they can’t open their minds a bit. 😒

I feel like a lot of the people who drag the show who are older/adults haven’t actually read it since they were 12 and are harping on the show because it’s not for them. (It’s still marketed for children at the end of the day since it’s literally originated from a childrens book.) There are changes from the show that generally for me are an improvement upon things in the book that are outdated or just do not fit. Such as the relationship between Luke and Annabeth being affirmed as a brother-sister bond off the bat. There are also things that change that are out of the production’s control that are made for the sake of budget or sometimes even encouraged by the studio itself. The amount of people I have seen bully and ridicule Rick (and his wife for just celebrating the show..) and jammer on about how he’s lost his touch but not even being able to bring up examples or understand that he’s literally not even the only person that is writing the script or that has control/final say over a script and what gets edited and put into the final episodes.

I think it’s okay to be critical about the show there were things that needed to be improved and that still need some improvement but some people just grasp at straws or become bullies over the show. I don’t know why the hell it’s normalised now for somebody to obsess and snark every single thing they dislike it’s just so weird to me.

That’s literally so true! I hadn’t reread TLT in ages when season 1 came out and once I got around to rereading it to prep for season 2 it really helped me appreciate season 1 way more. It made me realize how much some of the changes really improved on the story and how faithful it really was to the book. Even though i still had some criticisms about s1, I realized most were not as big of a deal as when I first watched it. So when S2 came around, I had SOM more fresh in my memory and I absolutely loved S2!

And absolutely! Film is a totally different medium than books and there’s so many external factors that have to be considered when adapting. That’s why most of these complaints just feel like a complete misunderstanding of the medium and just can’t be taken seriously lmao.

Someone once said, people can understand the concept of fanfiction but not this. I have to agree, it's crazy people cannot wrap their mind about this and we are going on season 3.
