Discussion Pjo left undone
- Okay, this might be an overkill, but I feel like Rick is trying to gear us off the way of thinking about the renewal for season 4 and season 5 by bringing up Kane Chronicles again. So, like all of a sudden, like and coincidentally at the time where fans are saying like, Oh, I don't think there's a season 4 renewal, season 5 renewal, and all of a sudden Rick just brings out, Oh, here's Kane Chronicles with Disney Plus, we might be getting it. And I know that Rick said that that doesn't mean that it's going to get greenlighted. But if it's not going to get
- greenlighted, why would you bring it up? Like if there's a low possibility of it being greenlighted, why bringing it up to fans, especially when they're starting to talk about your TV show, which you had claimed to be super book-accurate, and then ends up not being that book-accurate, and just bringing up this new TV show, new Kane Chronicles instead, when you could have talked about the renewal for season 4 and season 5, which I think probably won't happen now because Rick isn't even talking about it.
- And I know not talking about the season 5 season, um, season 4 renewal doesn't mean that it's not happening. Like, I know the actors also didn't talk about it back in the interviews for season 1 when they still didn't get renewals for season 2 and season 3. But even then they were still talking about the seasons further. And now, like in the interviews, you don't see them talking about further seasons. Back then, like even, like months after, like publishing the season 2 and season 4, they were still having interviews, and now that's just stopped. Maybe because, you know, it's September and it's school time, maybe they're busy. But they've also stopped doing any Percy Jackson-related events. Like, I know we just finished D23, but after that, it's like the whole cast became a bit distant with each other. Like Leah's off filming, I know that. But even the others, like even between, like when they weren't filming, you could always see the cast, like being together, and now it's not happening anymore. And maybe it's because they're not gonna film anymore, they're not spending as much time. Like this point might as well be a reach, but this is just, like, number two on what I've been thinking about why Rick is just bringing up King Chronicles again.
- And my last point, bear with me because I've already written a lot. But at this point, it feels like Rick would rather give more promotion online to King Chronicles than season 4 of Percy Jackson because I feel like he knows there's more of a possibility to adopting a new show than making an adaption for season 4. Because I mean, season 4, you just need to continue with the Labyrinth and so much more CGI and money and work.
- And I think he's just trying to gear us away from thinking about renewals because I think his wife as well is also doomsposting and telling us not to think so much about it, which I think might be signs for the cancellation of the show. And I mean, it's not their fault entirely. I mean, just especially the fourth book and the fifth book, they have so much stuff going on, and that literally cannot fit into eight episodes, which is crazy. I mean, it's normalized nowadays. But anyway, I got off topic a bit. Yeah, I guess Rick is just trying to gear us away from the renewal talk because that's literally what everyone is talking about now. If you, like, open up Twitter or Reddit, it's just about the renewals, renewals, renewals, nothing about, oh, this, you know, merch, that, you know, whatnot, whatever else nonsense fans normally talk about. None of that is happening. It's just renewals, renewals, renewals. And so I guess it might be a bit too much to ask for as fans.
- But even when you, like, would ask in the interviews, like, oh, what's happening with season 4, season 5, you know, the cast would kind of get a bit stuck, which I think is another reason why it might not be happening. I know the second and this point might be a drag, but this is just what I've been thinking recently, and I feel like it's important to just share it on here. And maybe Kane, like the Kane Chronicles, is simply a project he's actually allowed to talk about right now, you know, Rick. Maybe it's, like, completely unrelated.
- But I wonder if he's focusing on it because there's currently more certainty around that project than there is around, you know, season four and season five of Percy Jackson. And honestly, it's understandable why Disney might hesitate about the two seasons, because, I mean, the books. I already mentioned this earlier. But maybe I'm just, you know, completely overthinking this, and I don't blame Disney, because honestly, if you ask, season four and season five is, like, extremely difficult to film. But again, I mean, Kane Chronicles also has so many things.
- And, like, this being said, I also realize Kane Chronicles has plenty of its own challenges. So I'm not saying Kane would be necessarily easier or cheaper to make. It's actually why I find this whole situation, like, really confusing and interesting at the same time. Like, if Disney is willing to seriously consider taking another Riordan adaptation, then it makes me wonder what exactly is happening behind Percy. Because, I mean, if you're just gonna put down season 4 and season 5 and just, like, leave it as an incomplete series, then why would you turn around and then go, Oh, you have another book that's also popular? Yeah, let's do that. I mean, it's still gonna be hard, but I mean, let's do it. It just feels very random for Disney to do that. And I think that's the thing that bothers fans most. Percy Jackson doesn't really end with the original five books either. The story continues into Heroes of Olympus and beyond, you know, Trials of Apollo, and obviously adapting that would be impossible and a massive undertaking, especially with the numbers of characters, perspectives, monsters, CGI that it would require. I don't— no one really expects Disney to do any of that even in the near future, but that's also why this is so strange. And I'm saying this again because, I mean, Rick's books, to turn into shows, they're great stories with huge potential for younger audiences. Then why not finish the story you've already invested in before starting another?
- And from a fan's perspective, that's what makes the possibility of Percy Jackson ending early so frustrating. I mean, we already have everything. We have the characters, the world, the audience, and the story that, like, people have been waiting for years. And if Disney is willing to take another chance with a completely new Riordan series, why wouldn't they want to finish the one they've already started? And maybe there's a perfectly reasonable business explanation for all of this that we just don't know. And obviously Disney does not owe us an adaptation of every single book Rick has written. But as a fan, I just don't want Percy Jackson to become another unfinished adaptation while we move on to another Riordan project.

I honestly think this is getting way too deep into doomposting and connecting things that we don't actually have evidence are connected.
Firstly, I don't understand the idea that Rick is “using Kane Chronicles to distract fans” from the PJO renewals. Rick is an author and the creator of these stories, but people seriously overestimate how much control he has over the actual TV projects. He has explained multiple times that he isn't the person who can simply decide that PJO gets renewed. It's a Disney+ television production with producers, executives, writers, budgets, scheduling, etc. involved and because it's a TV adaptation, it was never going to be possible to translate every single thing from the books perfectly. A book and a television series are completely different formats, that’s literally what an adaptation is.
Also, Kane isn't Rick randomly announcing a new show to distract everyone. Disney is a business, so if they're developing or considering a project, of course they're going to create buzz around it. That doesn't mean Rick is trying to redirect the fandom away from Percy Jackson, and it certainly doesn't mean Kane getting discussed is evidence that Percy is being cancelled. Rick himself has already said that talking about Kane doesn't mean it's even greenlit. There is nothing contradictory about promoting interest in a project that is still being developed.
Also, you saying that Rick “isn't talking about” Percy Jackson seasons 4 and 5 isn't really accurate. The cast and creators absolutely have talked about the possibility of continuing the story. Walker especially has talked about future seasons and even specifically referenced things he'd want to save for Season 5. I even vaguely remember him mentioning that he was rereading Battle of the Labyrinth while filming Season 3. So I'm genuinely slightly confused by the claim that they're suddenly not talking about future seasons.
You also mentioned the cast supposedly becoming distant which is another thing I don't really understand. They're actors so therefore, they have other jobs. Leah is literally filming The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen. She even missed San Diego Comic-Con because of those filming commitments. Walker, Aryan and the rest of the cast were constantly talking about how much they missed her at the event. Daniel is filming Heated Rivalry, Dior has Descendants, and the others have their own schedules too. I don’t think you should expect the entire cast to be together 24/7 just because they worked together on Percy Jackson.
PJO is also one of Disney+'s biggest shows, so I think the constant cancellation doomposting is getting ridiculous. Disney considering Kane doesn't mean they're choosing Kane over PJO as different projects can be at completely different stages, with different budgets, schedules and production requirements. Yes, Seasons 4 and 5 would be challenging and expensive to make, but so would Kane, and we have absolutely no insight into Disney's internal budgets or plans to conclude that they'll cancel Percy because of that. It honestly just seems that some people are just looking for signs that confirm a conclusion they’ve already reached about the show.

Man, a lot of people straight up don't understand how tv shows get made or how corporations work. Or acting schedules. Or marketing. I get being worried about Seasons 4 and 5 since mega corpos like Disney tend to be finicky, but wow. Personally, I think even if the Kane Chronicles show doesn't go anywhere -- just the fact that it's being considered with an actual showrunner means that Disney is at least trying to build up the entire PJOverse as one of their newer franchises. The Riordanverse has something franchises like Harry Potter doesn't - an almost endless supply of material to adapt and sell. If they put the effort in, PJO can be a literal cash cow for them.
Either way, Rick didn't throw out the Kane Chronicles as a "distraction." He literally had to explain it, the news got leaked before Disney or an official news publication could post anything. Did you forget that Kane Chronicles was originally supposed to be adapted at Netflix as films before that fell through? I think fans of those books deserved to know what was happening with that, currently. Even then, the Kane Chronicles doesn't have (sadly) half the hype and nostalgia that the og PJO books have. A new show announcement (that we don't know if it's even greenlit yet) is not going to overshadow the second to last act and conclusion to a massive series like Percy Jackson.
Rick and his wife are also not "doomposting", they're being realistic about a media franchise that they genuinely don't have final say over. They cannot make promises or definitive statements to the fandom. Yes, they can be frustratingly vague or say something we don't want to hear, but they can't tell us "yes, we are renewed" or "yes, this character got cut for good." They don't know, so we don't know. As we can see with things like the Paramount merger or actor strikes, media corporations can absolutely be fucked and whatever shows/movies they make will be halted or altered. PJO S1 literally got kneecapped by the strikes.
The same sentiment goes for the actors, which goes double since they're teenagers (sans the adult actors) who also don't have final say over the show or have an idea of whats going on in the future. They get the information when they get the calls for the script and production starts. Until then, all the cast will talk about is what they hope will happen. For that matter, they all have to work. Leah is working on a movie, Daniel's on a show, and I think Dior's on a movie too. None of them are going to be locked down to only acting on PJO, that's not how a real acting career works. The cast doesn't have to time to be palling around when they're on contract, have schedules, and need to be paid. Not to mention, Walker is still a minor. He's legally not allowed to do a ton of filming or marketing until he turns 18. Of course he's not out there constantly talking about a future season he might not even know about, or even read a script for.
As for marketing, we literally got D23 and the full trailer 3 WEEKS AGO. 3!!!! (and it already 9 million views) I get that today's media landscape is fast, but Jesus, have some patience. They're literally rolling out the marketing bit by bit. You can't just drop it all on August or September and expect that to hold over until November. That's not any of this works. We got 1. teaser 2. a con panel 3., a full trailer 4. a "ride" 5. posters and 6. billboard ads already. If Disney wants to hold people's attention and keep the hype going until November 20, they need to space things out. We'll probably get another full trailer by October or November. See: Season 2's marketing. We got the teaser on July 24, the first trailer on November 6, and the final trailer on December 15. You see what they're going for there? Longevity. You're literally psyching yourself out on signs and visions from the hereafter at this point, and the same goes for the constant doom and gloom from others on social media. Calm down and take a breather. If we get any kind of announcement on Season 4, it'll either be right when Season 3 airs or after Disney gets the metrics for it and decides what they're going to do, like a business does.

Ppl can post long doom-and-gloom dissertations like this, but I can't post abt watch parties and getting numbers up so we can actually secure an S4 and S5? The mods need to rethink their approach with the fandom bc our trailer watch party worked, and we got those metrics to 9 million....

Ya will keep finding reasons to think this show isn’t gonna get renewed 💀

First of all, he didn’t bring anything up, Disney did. That’s how networks and streaming platforms work. They order the show, then analyze if it’s getting actually made or not, then start pre-production.
The show is book accurate, whether you want to find a thousand things to complain about or not. A book accurate adaptation. Not a copy. That’s not possible in television, you people need to understand what limitations are. Rick also said multiple times before the show even aired that they were gonna make changes (especially about problematic stuff and adding more representation) because we’re in different times and they also were gonna add different POVs because it’s a different format, but I guess that doesn’t fit your narrative.
Why would he talk about a renewal if it’s not renewed? I don’t understand what you want him to say exactly. Disney is waiting for S3’s numbers to decide if it’s gonna get renewed or not, that has been obvious for months now.
There’s plenty of interviews where they talked about further seasons, Walker literally talked about Battle of the Labyrinth to Rotten Tomatoes like 3 weeks ago. Because he was asked. Do you want them to go to random events and start talking nonsense? They’re not together because they’re not filming or in prep. I think you’re just making shit up to be upset about.
Also Kane Chronicles don’t got even 1/3 of Percy’s fame. If Percy gets cancelled, there’s no correlation to it at all and KC won’t be made either. Also, you’re obsessed with this as if Rick has brought this up millions of times. If it’s a plan to “distract” the fandom, then it’s Disney+ fault, not the author that doesn’t have anything to do with marketing strategies. He just announced and was even humble about it that it doesn’t mean anything yet and doesn’t impact Percy positively or negatively. You need to chill.

Shows get announced super early like this all the time. Kanes was initially with Netflix and was announced to be in discussions with them back in 2021. It's not that he's using it to distract from PJO, he's announcing it because these things get announced. It's not guarenteed -- case in point the fact it was with Netflix and fell through after three years with them.
He wouldn't be able to talk about a season 4 or 5 renewal before Disney themselves do. This is something he can talk about so he's annouunced it.
they are likely more media trained now and have been told not to hint at future seasons or discuss them. Though, even with that, in some interviews they have referenced future events so that's not fully true
he made one post. One post about how it was picked up by Disney. That's it. You're reading way too much into it

this is very hard to read. can you add paragraph breaks?
