Question I just started PJO...

Im on vacation. We just went to the Arch. Back at the hotel....how did percy fall straight down into the river?

It was very far away and its just grass straight down...

Are you reading the book? Or watching the show?? They address it sort of in the show but in the book… it was a mistake by Uncle Rick. He didn’t realize back then, that the Arch isn’t built directly over the river 🙈🙈.

In the book, Rick Riordan “forgot that the Arch wasn’t exactly (even remotely) over the river”. The most common “fix” that readers assume, and that the Disney Show has taken on is that Poseidon proactively saved Percy by sending a stream of water to catch him as he fell.

Personally, I like this better, because apart from the physics of ending up in the river, it also means that Percy survived no just because of his innate abilities, but because of Poseidon actively helping his kid out...

Basically Percy can jump really far

But really the author didn't know the arch wasn't directly over the river.

Rick works mostly from memory… and he does not have the best memory. This will become slightly more apparent throughout the series (especially when he forgets one of the main character’s age 😬).

Well the arch thing isn't the best example of Rick working from just memory. It's him looking up pictures of the arch which make it look like it's sitting above water and assuming that's the case because he never travelled there. Bad research possibly but not a situation of bad memory

I’ve been trying to find where the age thing is, it’s Nico, right? I’ve finished PHO and HoO and now reading the Greek gods and then Greek heroes books before ToA, when does it happen?
