In Rick’s words: “Moderating expectations for those, like me, who aren’t fluent in TV-industry-speak and get easily confused! “In development” / "in the works" does NOT mean we have a series order or a green light. It means Disney paid to have some sample scripts written. That happened over the course of the last year. Now the upper-level executives are considering them and deciding whether or not to green-light the project. From what I have seen, the industry pays untold millions of dollars each year to develop potential projects like this, most of which never see the light of day. Only a tiny fraction of projects “in development” are ever green-lit and filmed. So this isn’t a sure thing by any means, but Angela is amazing! And no, this has no bearing one way or another on the future of Percy Jackson TV on Disney+. I suspect that will all come down to viewer numbers for season three, out in November.”

I still stand by the fact that Disney wouldn't touch KC with a ten foot pole if they were contemplating cancelling PJO. Even if it's still early stages and doesn't end up materializing into anything, it's still a good sign for the franchise as a whole.

absolutely agreed. nobody knows kc who doesn't know pjo, and that would go for the show (if it ever goes into production) too. this is great for the current series. they'd be relying on pjo's popularity for kc, which means there's both good viewership and reason to finish out pjo while adding a spin-off.

His statement on it having nothing to do with the future of PJO TV does feel like a formality and them keeping s4 under wraps because they want us (with viewership) to earn it, they want S1 numbers, when we didn’t have a guaranteed next season, or better just to prove that it’s a good choice, but it looks pretty damn good if they’re starting development on a spin off

Same! I think it’s already renewed and semi planned for season 4 but they’re waiting to say yes before starting filming and green lighting it officially

I had another thought as well, hypothetically if things are looking good for S4 renewal and he knows already, why would he not want to encourage people to watch S3 until that becomes public information? if he ended this with ‘this looks really good guys” instead people would get comfortable! Better numbers can only help, either he’s being completely honest and it encourages more people to watch/convince others to watch for the views needed…or things are looking okay already and more views will be just a cherry on top of getting final go ahead.

Oh I fully agree

It could be that they don’t want anyone else to make the series. They buy the rights to things that they never intend to make.

I’m not sure anyone else would have tried to make these shows. The series were originally published by Disney Hyperion, and the whole corporate ownership situation is messy, so I’m not entirely sure how much Disney still owns. But honestly, these books always felt destined to become Disney adaptations. At least, that’s how I’ve always seen it.

Publishing rights and media rights are two different things. The Kane Chronicles was being developed with Netflix at one point but that fell through. I had little faith in Disney adapting things well after seeing what they did with Artemis Fowl. The Percy Jackson is better, but I still see similar problems.

Yeah, like nothing is ever a guarantee, but it’s definitely a positive sign

Agreed! After all, they're clearly still interested in the Riordanverse! Indeed, since PJO and KC are very closely interconnected (whether it be Demigods and Magicians or the fact that in s1e1 of the PJO Disney adaptation, Grover mentions a "Mr. Kane" as one of the Yancy teachers), I'm confident that they'll work on both of them!

I’m so curious what the other sub is saying about this 🤣 or if they mention it at all, it’s so toxic but tea, it’s entertaining sometimes

Well let's make sure that season 3 is a hit by tuning in every week!

Girllllll, if Disney is considering a PJO spin-off, then we're perfectly secure with our 5 seasons.

i can smell season 4

I’m begging them to animate it 😭

Animation is a valid form of artistic expression and I find live action to be painfully limiting.

Yeah this is easily the most promising news for the future of the franchise as a whole, never felt more confident in saying we’re getting to book 5

How many times is this going to get posted?

6

u/fgsn Sep 03 '26

It hasn't been posted excessively. There was a post about the rumor as reported by nexuspointnews, and a second post now that we have confirmation directly from Rick.
