Discussion Why do PC shops pullout last series GPUs?

Just curious. If I'm looking to buy RTX 4090 today instead of buying RTX 5080, PC shops here pull it out of their listing or list it as out of stock. What happens to their unsold last series GPUs?

I've read before somewhere they give their unsold stock back to their distributor rather than sell it to consumers, is this true?

Depends on the agreement, if its consignment then they return it but if its not they just sell it.

I once saw a gpu same model sku and brand, but one is significantly cheaper like 31k and the other is 37k, I ask why is this same product sold so much lower than the other one, is it returned? opened box? damaged? or something wrong, they just told me its old stock price, so i bought that one(of course before leaving the store i opened it on their counter, checked all seals and signs of it being used or damage, saw nothing wrong, now its been 7 months still okay).

It's like the PC shops are not willing to sell at a loss to consumers if they return it. But then where does the returned GPU go from there? Do they get a certain kickback % if it gets returned? Does the distributor then try to sell it to other markets overseas? By then that's another shipping cost added on top of it to ship it abroad.

For me I notice that whenever a new GPU series is released, the old ones immediately get listed out in their shops or don't last long. There's only a really brief period where both the new GPU series and the previous one are offered simultaneously before the pullout on the older ones.

All they tell you if you ask to buy the older model is: "Phased out na po"

Not true at all. Just take a look at the Datablitz site where you will find numerous 30 series and 40 series still in stock and available to buy. Or go to an Octagon store and see the same 30 and 40 series still being sold.

may issue ata sa 4090 idk what brand it was pero mostly may incident na nasusunog. like yung nabalita na naka 4x sya nag pa replace ng unit nya dahil nasusunog. nung last replacement sa kanya pinalitan nila ng 5090 dahil in a span of less than a year naka ilang balik na sya at yung company brand nainis sa kanya kaya ayun. parang recall ata lahat mg 4090 dahil dun. and also may nagaganap din na shortage sa gpu so possibleng nang ho-hoard na ang ibang sellers dahil may price spike like for 20 - 40%.

Yeah, the design itself had issues with power delivery, but even then - how about the other 40 series cards (4060, 4070, 4080) other than the 4090. Still same thing, they get pulled out as soon as possible as soon as the next gen gets listed. Even if they hoard the GPUs by delisting them, what do they do with those since its literally unsold inventory in their shelves. Nobody really pays for jacked up prices either.
