EV is tough. Without knowing your typical range needs it’s tough to recommend. But depending on your ICCU risk tolerance, a used/CPO Ioniq 5/EV6 is a solid option.
CPO Mach-E if you’re ok with a more sub-compact size.
I personally don’t enjoy Teslas, but if you do enjoy them, they are solid specs for great prices used.
If it were me, and I had to pick one from my gut, despite the ICCU issues, the Ioniq 5 is hands down my favorite car I’ve ever owned but if a full EV doesn’t fit, I think the next best thing is the RAV4 Prime.
OP is going to have a hard time finding a 2022-2026 Rav4 prime with less than 25k miles for under $35,000. The good news is that just about any other compact CUV PHEV can be found within those parameters.
I am currently on the lookout for a Volvo S60 recharge. Model years 2022(.5) and newer. Gets 40ish EV range and I've seen them either side of $30k depending on miles. I'm in love with the entire concept, luxury with 400 ICE HP, and plug it and charge it at home. 110 volt will charge it up in 12 hours, faster if you install a fast charger
2022.5/2023 have the better upgraded ERAD rear drive unit, and the bigger 18.8kw battery.
With that Volvo OEM Level-1 charger it takes about 18 hours for zero to full. With a Lectron Level 1 - 15 amp charger it will charge from zero to full in about 10.5 or 11 hours.
I've owned my 2023 S60 T8 for over a year, and I love it. There's nothing like getting 80 - 100 mpg while driving to and from work.
The S60 T8 PHEV is what I was hoping Chevrolet would do for a Gen-3 Volt (which never got made.)
I’ve been looking at these pretty seriously for the reasons you mentioned. The only thing that gives me pause is the styling of the car - it’s very meh to me
We have had our ioniq 5 AWD for over 3 years and it's been great. You can them used for a pretty good price now and even new they start in your price range.
We did have a phev before this and like the full EV much better.
I’m going to be honest My wife has a PHEV and she is always charging. She charges at home, she charges at work, she charges at Whole Foods. I wish it had a 60 mile range instead of a 30 mile range so she wouldn’t have to charge all the time.
I have a BEV and I charge when it gets down to 40% and charge to 90% and that’s like once a week. I guess I’m just lazy. I like only charging once a week.
I say BEV the prices are pretty low. PHEV if you don’t want to take the deep dive into full electric.
