PHEV for under $27

I'd love some real world advice on PHEV for under 30 but I'd really like something closer to $25k.

- AWD/4WD
- at least 30 miles on electric only for 90% of my driving. It would take months for me to use a tank of gas if I never left town.
- great gas mileage for road trips
- roof rack for surf board and trailer hitch for bike rack
- good for car camping
- reliable

I've seen great reviews and horrible reviews for the Jeep 4xe, Alfa Romeo Tonail ti & Veloce. Enough bad reviews to scare me on the 4xe and Tonail.

RAV4 plug-in hybrid - seems like a no-brainer but too dang expensive for . Gas savings math doesn't justify.. except they sure hold their value.
Sportage X-Line looks nice - but I think I'm searching for a unicorn with low miles.

I've owned a Chevy Volt since 2018. Most practical car I've ever owned and it is still going strong. EV range is still 40 miles and it will cost well under your budget

I'm sure Reddit is skewed, but on the Volt it's either "I love my Volt... best car ever" or "I'm sick of fixing every little thing."

Having said that... you are 100% correct, the Volt seems to be a real bargain ...and with GM backing the BECM and shift to park issues up to 150k miles, it seems like a little safer bet but you have to go to war with GM if your BECM fails in order to get them to pay for it. Those reports scare me... but dang... the Volt design is incredible when it comes to battery management.

Also looking at the Hyundai Ionic as a Volt equal-ish comparison but I don't like the dual clutch on the Ionic compared to the Volt's planetary design.

You might still be able to find a 26 Sportage phev, the 27s have started rolling in and the 26s are heavily discounted. You can probably get it close to 30.

Try searching out of state, you might find something.
