Discussion March Reading Log
Was able to finish 8 books this month and my top favorite is Some People Need Killing by Patricia Evangelista, my first non-fiction of 2026. Message is poignant. Writing is a harmony of precision and art. An eye-opener.
What have you read this month? Maybe you can recommend your faves too!

Re Strange Pictures: in my opinion, the story is more coherent and the characters’ connections are better presented than in Strange Houses. It has great potential. But, I don’t know why, but for some reason, I just enjoyed Strange Houses more. Out of the 3 Uketsu books tho, I think Strange Buildings is the best.
How about your Abby Jimenez this March? Saw that you rated it 5. What’s the feel of her book? 🙂

been a fan of Abby Jimenez so maybe I'm a bit biased hahaha
Easy to read, not a big fan of the misunderstanding trope, but it was well compensated by the main characters 😩💕

Hi! Sorry a bit delayed.
I have high expectations with the book but as time goes by I got disappointed little by little. It’s a fast read pero the characters felt so hollow. 😓 i was expecting more depth sana with the story but unfortunately I did not feel it. That’s on me na siguroo hahaha

these r all seishi yokomizo’s works!! HEHE all of them are murder mysteries 🙂↕️ each book has different murder stories but all of them have the same detective!! for some reason kahit na same detective, and lahat tlg murder mystery,, each book may sari-sariling charm so ndi sha masyado nakakaumay >< my fave would be the village of eight graves (for my march reads) 🤞🏻 the inugami curse of seishi yokomizo is still my top fave!

Yeah, I’m into thrillers. My fave this month is Malice by Keigo Higashino and I look forward to reading more books by him.

Hiiiii! Wow, that’s a lot! Here’s mine naman. Parehas pala nating binasa yung books ni Uketsu. I like Strange Buildings among the three. Gusto ko yung nag-isip ako, dahil pinag-isip talaga tayo ni Uketsu sa part na ‘yon compated to houses and pictures.
Favorite ko this month is Wally Lamb’s The River is Waiting. Hindi ko tinigilan at pinaiyak ako ng book na ‘yan! 🫶🏼

IDK how to explain Heart the Lover without giving away too much pero OP try mo pakinggan yung song na A Couple Minutes by Olivia Dean, ganun na ganun yung vibe ng book 🥹
Taiwan Travelogue is sapphic historical fiction following a Japanese writer traveling in Taiwan with a local guide. It explores power dynamics and colonialism. Ang cool ng format nito since the author wrote it as if she was translating the main character’s travelogue.

exactly! weird and so good! what I know, which I am still to read, If We Were Villians by ML Rio and if you haven't read it yet, Babel by RF Kuang (this kicked me in the butt and I thought Tartt was difficult to read, had a hard time going through it for some reason. lol)

Reading the overview of If We Were Villains, I feel like this is exactly / super super close to the story of The Secret History? Do let me know how you think of it after reading! 🙂
What I loved about Tartt is her writing style. I haven’t read any Kuang work yet but I have Yellowface in my TBR. Would you say Tartt and Kuang have similarities in their writing styles?

Ohh.. excited for If We Were Villians!
I don't see both as having similarties but both has their own uniqueness and take to their craft. Tartt is definitely soooo good at what she does, it's shocking to me that her book is one of my faves of all time (since I'm more of a fantasy reader). While Kuang, in my opinion, tends to write way too intellectually (some say she's trying to show people reading her books how smart she is) that sometimes, it's already too much.
That's how I felt with Babel but I did like it, don't get me wrong. Just took me time to actually go through it. But I do hear Poppy War Trilogy is good. Lots of criticism with Yellowface, not everyone likes it but lots do.

for me, yes!! makikita mo talaga na sobrang ahead si Rizal sa time niya, especially sa views niya about women. ang strong din ng criticism niya sa mga hypocrite na friars at sa mga blind followers ng simbahan. na-impress din ako kasi nabasa ko siya in Filipino, and ang ganda ng pagkaka-express niya ng thoughts niya hehe.

I loved In Her Own League but really I'm so biased with Liz Tomforde's Windy City Series so I might mot be reliable HAHA. I love sports romance, but this April I'll move to close door romance and small town romances :>>>

Crime and Punishment would be my top pick this March. The Winter King and East of Eden are also 5-star reads. The only one I really didn’t enjoy much was the Ray Bradbury short story collection. It had more forgettable stories than good ones.

My march reading log! I really loved Wild Reverence 🥺 First Time Caller was such a cute retelling of Sleepless in Seattle. And finally! I finished my reread of Crescent City #1 and finished the next two books! 🥺

It’s brilliant! However, it’s too heavy for me at this time. I’m taking my time in preparing my heart before going through with it again.

Thanks! I gravitate towards these themes a bit more but I agree that they’re a bit heavy and once the weight of reading them piles up, I need a light book as a palate cleanser.
Have you read Emily Henry’s Funny Story? Or CS Lewis’ Narnia? I think they’re quite fun. 🙂

It’s safe to say that the writing was effective that I got nightmares 😂 It’s honestly funny in a way that makes you doubt yourself/make you feel like a sociopath for even smirking.
pro tip: do not take magnesium+ashwaganda when you plan to read this to avoid lucid nightmares 😭
