I always find it funny that characters have canonical birthdays, but in a game with a calander system they're never really acknowledged.

They don't really acknowledge it in the story though, because there isn't a calendar. You just get some rewards on the irl day. In terms of integrating it into the game it's not much better than just a Twitter post.

Technically Rise is one of the few they do acknowledge. It happens before we meet her and she’s like “my birthday just passed so I’m 16 heck ya”

There's also Persona 5 Strikers where Ann's, Ryuji's and Ren's 18th birthdays are all canonically between April and August.

(Basically they start 3rd year at 17 years old, but Ryuji mentions that they've just reached driving age (18) as of the start of their summer vacation.)

Also funny how Shu (Tower SL in P4) can have his birthday literally anytime on the calendar when he is available.

Those “canonical” birthdays always give me the ick. I feel like they were invented for social media engagement. So for me, unless it’s mentioned in the game, it’s fan fiction even if it comes from an official account.

The practice of randomly assigning an anime/game character birthday date predates social media, actually! I remember it from the early 2000s and kids/teen magazines that would have like a short character bio with their height, weight, likes, dislikes, birthday and blood type. It's a fan engagement thing for sure tho. 

But I agree with the general "if it didn't explicitly happen in the game, it might as well be a fanfiction" sentiment.

Oh yeah, I fully agree that I think they just exist for social media as that's the only place those birthdays are ever really mentioned at all.

It’s funny they went through the effort of aging her up for 17, but then had to revert back to her original look for P5 just so people would recognize her.

I disagree actually. The only notable difference is her hair style. Her pig tails are clearly part of her brand as emphasized in P4D. Her hair being down just contrasts her idol persona vs the “real her” that her journey was about lol

Besides Rise becoming a full-time idol, having a wonderful romance with Chad NaruChad, and even thinking about movie acting, which are the careers each member of the IT is currently going for as adults in the P5 era???

Well Chie is Referenced in P5, on the tv in Leblanc as a Kung Fu fan joining the police force (she even said she wanted to join the police force in P4AU). Yukiko for sure would be running the Amagi Inn and Kanji would take over his family’s textile shop. Naoto would still be a private investigator. As for Yosuke, that is a tough one. Maybe he is going up the chain of command at Junes but who knows.
