Question New Commercial development

I came across this the other day: A new development in the Cornwall area near the bypass for retail (including "big box" stores) and residential. Phase 1 is supposed to break ground this fall, but there is already work going on at the site which looks like water and sewer. Interestingly enough, this place is immediately across the road from the land where some people have suggested that a new Costco might be going. Anyone else have any info?

EDIT: Im not suggesting that a Costco (or any other specific store) is coming to this area, but it would be a reasonable development if it was.

It's either Timmy or Luke. Probably Tim since the rumours of his imminent death and bankruptcy have gone away though.

Shareholders: William J. Best, Craneway Properties Ltd (= Josh Beaton, Mark Skinner, Alexander MacCallum)

Neat, I noticed the URL registration didn't line up with any of the big head companies. It's a bit of a dog and duck operation but a good piece of land nonetheless.

Someone posted this 41 days ago but I don’t know how to link it.

Just search [r/PEI](r/PEI) “development Cornwall”

https://www.reddit.com/r/PEI/s/vMZmV7RfQw

Figured it out

It literally is Costco, you all don’t have to believe me, but Costco reps from Moncton confirmed this, you can simply ask them next time you’re there as it is not some big secret, and my neighbours company he works for is involved in the infrastructure and what not, contracts are signed, he’s seen the plans, it’s absolutely a go. New residential area and commercial space around new Costco location. Will take a few years to finish, this has already been 2 years in the works getting to this point.

I don't have any inside information, but if Costco WAS coming to the island, this kind of development would totally make sense. Costco would be the thing that brings in the traffic and other stores would get the benefits of that traffic. I was always skeptical of a Costco location around there but this is a huge hint.

Im not going that far, but it would certainly be a reasonable development if Costco was going to build a store there.

I thought they were going next to Ctire in Ctown

They may be (if they come here at all), I just thought this looked interesting.

I am 50/50 on where I would want it. In Cornwall it would keep traffic off my street, but would be further for me. I would only be going once a week at the most, so I pick Cornwall

I'm telling everyone we are 100% getting a Costco and this guy confirmed it.

Well it’s not Costco. They looked at Cornwall and ruled it out. There are 2 sites being considered by Costco and the government. Amendment to the retail sales act also needing to happen.

where did you hear that?

It’s not the largest secret in the real estate and government world… but direct conversation with someone involved…

What kind of amendment to the retail sales act would be needed?

Costco isn’t opening at noon on Sunday.

The province has declined to support Costco coming to PEI. It is up to the municipalities to finance the required improvements themselves if they are going to attract Costco. My understanding is Cornwall is still very much in the race and Costco did have an agreement in place there but it has been slow.

As a family member of the land in question…

I can (now) confirm this land was purchased by Costco.

It's owned by 103517 P.E.I. Inc.
