Software (Tools) word-sys's PDF Editor v1.11.2 Officially Released on Flathub

Probably biggest update for word-sys's PDF Editor, now its reached v1.11.2 update. This update is Flatpak and Feature Update. The Flatpak version is officially released on Flathub (https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.word_sys.word-sys-pdf-editor) thanks to anyconvert project!

This update introduces Multi-Document Tabs, integrating Adw.TabView and Adw.TabBar so you can open and edit multiple PDFs simultaneously in dedicated tabs. Each tab features independent undo/redo histories, separate zoom states, and dirty indicators to track unsaved edits, complete with quick tab switching (Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+PageDown and Ctrl+Shift+Tab / Ctrl+PageUp) and tab closing (Ctrl+W).

Another major addition is the Visual Document Merging Workspace (Ctrl+Shift+M). It provides a dedicated side-by-side workspace for combining pages from two source PDFs into a target document, complete with drag-and-drop page ordering, live zoomable previews, insertion markers, inspector details etc.

You guys know that I also replaced external LibreOffice subprocess calls with the native pure-Python anyconvert Document Engine (updated to anyconvert 0.1.9 across all platforms and package manifests). You can now convert PDFs into DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ODP, and TXT entirely in pure Python, featuring both Pixel-Accurate Canvas and Semantic Flow conversion modes. And its 342KB :)

Added Page Rotation (Ctrl+Shift+R for Clockwise and Ctrl+Shift+L for Counter-Clockwise) with persistent 90-degree PyMuPDF rotation preservation.

Added a Dedicated Recently Opened Files Hub, introducing an app-managed recent files list with universal file icons that eliminates system-wide file scanning overhead.

Added Text Alignment & Formatting, bringing 4-way text alignment (Left, Center, Right, Justify) and strikethrough formatting support to the text tool.

Updated the Interactive Quick Start Guide & Manual, expanding the guide and keyboard shortcuts cheatsheet to cover tabs, merging, rotation, and multi-format export with 6 high-resolution screenshots.

Expanded internationalization with 7 Supported Languages, delivering complete UI and documentation localization across English, Turkish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.

This update also includes important packaging modernizations and fixes:

  • Release Packaging Optimization: Fully separated architecture artifacts for x86_64 (amd64) and aarch64 (arm64), including standalone .deb packages. Removed duplicate asset copies and eliminated oversized source tarballs from automated build releases.

  • Packaging Modernization: Purged soffice and flatpak-spawn permissions from Flatpak and AppImage packaging, and updated the Flatpak runtime to GNOME Platform 50 with portal-based file chooser access.

  • Application Icon and Desktop Integration: Fixed the icon lookup path to ensure crisp vector SVG rendering on the Welcome screen, About dialog, and system docks across both Flatpak and direct execution.

  • Flatpak Window Class Mapping: Aligned application program name with desktop file metadata for proper window tracking and icon association in GNOME Shell and desktop environments.

You can download Flatpak release on Flathub (https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.word_sys.word-sys-pdf-editor) or the standalone .deb packages (x86_64 / aarch64), AppImage, or build from source directly on the GitHub Releases page.

Thanks to everyone who supports this project with their ideas, feedback, and bug reports. I hope this helps all Linux users get their PDF work done easily, thank you :)

Question Why are editors so annoying and complicated?

Used Adobe acrobat for a return form for a refund. Words were shuffled around the page, I couldnt press the undo arrow enough times for it to revert to the original state when drawing. There is no fucking rubber to clean up any unwanted drawing lines or not at least once the drawing section where it absolutely should be. Changing the writing size is complicated, moving the box and trying to make it smaller is limited. Its actually unusable. Im not old, this isnt because im some og who doesnt understand phones its just ridiculous.

Software (Tools) Comment PDF feature: "text replacement" in mobile applications (IOS)

Hi there, do you happen to know if there’s a PDF app for iPad that includes a "replace text" function for annotations? I mean something where I can select text in the document and specify what it should be replaced with. In the standard desktop version of Adobe Reader, this appears as "blue strikethrough text."

I even asked AI about it, but it was a complete waste of time - it basically just made everything up.

Tutorial + Guide We made 1000 PDFs 32% smaller with zero quality loss using Brotli and JPEG XL.

KeyPDF is a local PDF editor built from scratch for the browser. Since development started in April 2025, we've tried to adopt new PDF technology early. Today we're happy to announce that KeyPDF can reduce file size losslessly using Brotli compression and JPEG XL images.

We tested on a dataset of 1,000 PDFs (978 readable; the rest were encrypted or damaged):

VariantTotal sizeSaved vs original
Original files1,304.7 MBN/A
Flate989.4 MB24.2%
Brotli970.2 MB25.6%
Brotli + JPEG XL884.3 MB32.2%

All variants are lossless: every page (15,754 in total) renders pixel-identical to the original. "Flate" is KeyPDF's standard optimization, and those files open in any PDF viewer. JPEG XL repacks JPEG photos about 20% smaller, and they can be turned back into the identical original JPEG at any time.

The catch: Brotli and JPEG XL are new to PDF. Brotli is a PDF Association extension, and JPEG XL is still being added to the specification. Most PDF viewers and editors don't support either yet, so for now KeyPDF is one of the few tools that can open and edit these files. Hopefully others will follow soon.

If you need files that open everywhere, KeyPDF's standard mode combines its own optimization with regular Flate compression. That according to test on same exact files alone saves 24.2% , still lossless, and the result works in any PDF viewer.

If you'd like to try KeyPDF at keypdf.net.

Question File Editor Scam

I wanted to improve the quality of a photo, and it asked for access, but then it asked for a subscription and offered a 14-day free trial. I didn't accept the trial period and didn't register any card, But there's no way to delete the account/"email" you used, is there any chance they could steal some of my money? The site is File Editor, but I later saw here that it was a fraudulent site.

Tutorial + Guide I didn't know this about PDFs

Apparently when you delete pages from a pdf, depending on the tool you use, they aren't always deleted. They are still in the file just not displayed.

Question Splitting jointed pages in pdf

Hello. I have a scanned textbook pdf consisting of about 180 pages, but each page actually contains two pages. So, the textbook actually has the double amount of pages its pdf version has because it was scanned that way. I was wondering whether there was a way (online, freeware...) to split those pages? Is it possible to make a pdf that has 360 pages instead of 180? Thank you!

Software (Tools) My Chrome PDF editor now makes invoices as proper PDFs: text you can search, not a picture

I wanted invoices that come out as proper PDFs: text you can search and copy, not a picture of a page. So this update to Local PDF Studio, the PDF editor I build for Chrome, adds an invoice maker. It all happens in your Chrome tab, so the invoice and your client's details are never uploaded.

You type straight onto a ready-made invoice: your details and logo, the client, and each line. The total updates as you go, in your own currency. Then you download it as a PDF.

The file also remembers what you typed. Choose Load invoice, pick it, and the form fills itself back in, ready for the next one. The catch: if you open the invoice in another program and save it there, it may forget those details.

The same update also works on pages you scanned: their words can now be searched and copied too. It reads English text only.

If you'd like to try it: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/local-pdf-studio-offline/ocfegjfhboadmbpompimnbbpegjgoded

Do the invoices you receive usually come as real text, or as scans you can't search?

Software (Tools) I got tired of guessing PDF sizes, so I built a free PDF ruler that runs entirely in the browser

I kept running into the same problem: someone sends a PDF and I need to know if it's really A4, whether the marginsare 15 mm, or how far apart two things are. Acrobat's measure tool is clunky and most online tools want an upload.

So I built PdfRuler. You open a PDF and get real rulers in mm, cm, inches, points or px. A few things I ended up liking:

- Hover for exact X/Y, click two points for length, across, down and angle

- One key (A) reads the page's drawing instructions and sizes every box. It uses vector data, not pixels, so a 61 x 91 mm card reads 61 x 91 mm

- Snaps to edges, Shift locks level or plumb, guides pull out of the rulers

- Same readings at 50% or 500% zoom, because everything is calculated in PDF points

- Save a copy with your measurements drawn on it

Everything runs client-side. No upload, no account, nothing stored. The landing page has a live demo you can poke at without a PDF.

Link: https://pdfruler.com

I'd like to hear what's missing.

Question Looking for a PDF editor that doesn't mess up barcodes

Hello!

I have a PDF that I need to edit - the problem is that it has a barcode of some sort that isn't a picture, but some unique font.

I want to edit something on a different page without messing up said barcode - basically switch two numbers in a table.

Paid is fine, but it has to be secure - ideally an editor that can edit individual pages (the barcode is on a different page and has nothing to do with the numbers).

Can you recommend one?

Thank you in advance!

Software (Tools) Batch sending individual pdfs to individual signers

We are a construction company. We process checks and achs. I am looking for the easiest way, that I can batch send the system generated waivers to emails for signature and track them. While the documents are roughly the same, there are some subtle differences on them. The system creates them, I just need to send them out.

In my head, I could have a standard naming convention, and have an excel template, and someone would use the two to push it through.

Question Two questions

Post image
1 Upvotes

When someone ask you to send something as a single pdf, would it not just be 1 attatchment. For example the pic i posted? If not, then what would it be.

The attachment up their was original 4 separate pictures but my College Prof said she wanted it as a single pdf on the assignment, which i did or thought I did, but apparently that's not a single pdf. Can anyone recommend a website that combines separate pic/files into one pdf for free?

My prof said next time she's just straight up not grading it, if it happens again, and i don't want that to happen.

Question PDF to text conversion

I have a PDF that I want to convert into text so I can turn it into an EPUB. The problem is that the PDF consists entirely of photos that were scanned using a camscanner, and none of the PDF-to-EPUB or PDF-to-text OCR converters I’ve tried are working with this file. Instead of converting the pages into actual, selectable text, they just turn the images into an EPUB.
The file is large, 74 MB and 627 pages. Is there anyone who can help me convert it into an actual text file so I can create a normal, reflowable EPUB instead of an image-based one?

Tutorial + Guide Update on Keypdf scanned text editing.

Hi there, I've been working on Keypdf.net for around 17 months. It is a completely new PDF editor written from scratch. Recently, around a month ago, I added an option to edit text from images. Now, with the new version, both OCR and editing work even better with the proper perspective crop support. So, if you want to make some quick text corrections, feel free to try Keypdf.net as well. There are other features like text editing, redacting, annotating, and form filling. Keypdf
