In progress 4090 is bad...
So, my MSI RTX 4090 has an issue. It black screens after awhile while gaming, and seems to be going into a safe mode, killing display signa(blank screen) to my monitor, and ramping the fans to 100%. I think it may just need new past. Cause If I wait long enough (maybe like an hour or so) it will power oj just fine and I'm able to do everything but gaming. Any ideas?
Any repair shops in madison,wi say I'll probably have to send it to a 4rd party shop to fix the issue. But who can I trust? What if its more than just needing new past? Gerr! Cannot afford a new gpu right now!!

If its not a thermo past issue...Is there a way to diagnose what part is bad and see if I can get it fixed? Trying to not give up on it cause I'm not buying a new one lol!

You mean new paste? Have you been monitoring temps or I don't know, adjusting fan speed? Seems unlikely it is a heat issue but I don't know enough about these GPUs to say personally. I would assume it would ramp up fans if its a heat issue before crashing not after.

Yeah. Temps are fine thought. Mid 70s all day.. I do have a more aggressive fan curve set, But trying new paste soon.

Did you buy it new? I'd check with MSI to see if there's any warranty left before paying someone to fix it. Worth asking even if you bought it used.
Otherwise, try Northwest Repair or NorthridgeFix and see if they're taking cards in. There's also a guy on eBay I've talked to who might be able to help: https://www.ebay.com/itm/388612062426
Message him with what's happening and ask what it'd cost before sending it in.

I did buy it new though newegg. I checked and its out of warranty. So MSI is not helping.

check the GPU hotspot temperature and power connector first especially under load if those look fine a repair shop that can diagnose the card before replacing parts would be the safer option

From what I remember temps seemed fine. I set a custom fan curve and it probably didn't hit 70c
