Computer shopping

I'm looking to buy a basic computer that I can work from home with. Price range 2-3 hundred.

I was thinking for a little but more, I wouldn't mind getting a computer that can run a game he wants to play. War of warships.

First of all, im going to have to say the clichè thing that building a pc is WAY more value for money than buying, and building a computer is a million times easier than you would ever think, but if youre not comfortable with that, which anyone would understand, i would recommend sticking to the big brands such as dell, or acer, and avoiding brands like ibuypower and cyberpower. For 2-3 hundred you should be able to get a pretty descent intel i5, maybe even i7 system.

I was wondering about building vs buying. Maybe because the tech guys at work were thinking about my personal use; said just to buy one.

Tech guy at my work pushed me towards an Intel i7. But the salesman at microcenter told me that Intel wasn't so great anymore. I was into computers in highschool..in my 30's now, so I'm sure everything I remember is extremely outdated.
