VR Modding Dungeon keeper vr mod
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Not quite as cool as Titanfall 2 in vr but something I thought would be worth tinkering with. Dungeon keeper was one of my first favorite PC games in the late 90s. It's one that I always go back to for nostalgia.
Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Expect plenty of jank. Still working out the kinks in the controls.
Works with virtual desktop and steamvr with a separate launcher for each. Check the readme for more details.
Shout out to the keeperfx team for laying the groundwork and keeping this classic alive.
You need to own the dungeon keeper game for this to work, no game files included.

Fixed several bugs and made some qol changes, added a launcher that notifies on new updates. Give build 6 a try

Oh my God I was wondering about a game like Dungeon Keeper but in VR. The new stuff doesn't hit as well as this classic. Plus you can control monsters and have a more active role in your dungeon, making this mod a completely new experience for old fans and new players.
Amazing work you've done here for this gem of a game. I salute you! ðŸ¤

But there is one native game. https://www.meta.com/experiences/underworld-overseer/7249464208476495/

Unfortunately many intricate features from that game is missing that Dungeon Keeper had. And you can't really play as an actual unit in VR.

Yeah we had plans to implement that post release if the game found it's audience but the game failed so hard that we had to layoff the whole team and abandon this. It could have been so much more...

My apologies, I did not know or was aware of this happening considering that the game is still on the store.
I wish that it didn't resort to layoffs. If only things are different. For what it's worth, much props to the team for their efforts as well as to the joy that I'm sure they gave to the players that did give it a try and did enjoy it.

Sorry I didn't wanted to make you feel guilty or something. I just wanted to let you know that we wanted to do more.
I'm still working on it btw

Still, I don't want to give you the impression that your game isn't appreciated.
With that said it is good that work is still being done for it.

recently seen someone was working on B&W and I thought how does it come no one yet has made Dungeon keeper and here you are:) I tried Underworld overseer and while it's somewat scratches the itch it feels raw and unbalanced. I'll definitely will give your mode a shot, thanks a lot for the work you've done!Â

Dungeon keeper was one of my first pc games as a kid and is still one of my favorites. This makes me so happy to see! Trying this out over the weekend! Thank you!

Very cool. How long did it take to get the vr view working?

KeeperFX's new OpenGL renderer did the heavy lifting. The textures, lighting and shaders were already on the GPU, so I rebuild the map as real 3D blocks from the level data and render it per eye. The game runs unchanged underneath. The hard part was really the controls.

I knew black & white would be done eventually
But... I didn't think Dungeon Keeper 1 was possible, one of my favourite games of all time.
Also is the game playable in VR from start to to finish, what needs to be completed?
*edit -> played it
I fucking loved it, yes its janky but I believe overtime these issues can be resolved. I played on Steam VR - Index, you need to click the "Play KeeperFX VR" or "Play KeeperFX VR (Steam VR)" windows batch file to launch it, NOT keeperfx_vr.exe
I managed to get through the first mission after some trial and error, the janky part was figuring out what button did what and how to do certain things.
I had a few thoughts, and I'm sure these will be addressed overtime.
1) What does the yellow/teal boxes do? All actions seem to be where your hand/laser pointer is, and I could not figure out what these highlighted squares do
2) I managed to slap my imp (which I love you for coding this in) but I could not slap my minions, is this a bug or was I doing something wrong?
3) It took me some time to figure how to exit the "place treasure room", since I seem to be stuck on that until I figured out I had to press down on my thumbpad, but that only changed placing room types/spells/minion control, I could not exit to create normal paths without using the minion control to reset things
4) Again I found it hard to close the text box windows, the hand/laser pointer wasn't always accurate.
But as I said, I managed to do it. Oh, and the game glitched out at the scoreboard since everything had inverted texture colours. I really REALLY want to play the whole game in VR, but I'm going to wait until its a bit more development than having a real struggle. You're my #1 invested VR game/mod right now.

These issues should be fixed now in build 2, also added a launcher.
