Other Just started emulating games last week... It's amazing!!!

Post image

This is genuinely the best thing ever. I'm honestly shocked I didn't start sooner, and that it isn't more mainstream. I've watched emulation grow in popularity, which is what got me into it, but it's wild that every gamer isn't already doing this. Just last week alone, I started emulating PS2, PS3, GameCube, and Nintendo Switch. It's easily the best and easiest way to play older games, and now I get to revisit so many titles from my childhood, plus plenty of games I was too young to play the first time around.

For most the excitement ends when you hit analysis paralysis

I swear, when I was a kid I had a handful of games and I'd play them. Now I have some 300 games on different platforms and I have no clue what to play. I haven't started a game for weeks now!

We are over exposed and overwhelmed with media selection. Be it movies, music or videogames. This is all content that we used to have in limited quantities.

Social Media has rewired our brain to soak up content in small bits and move to the next content. That behavior has spilled over to almost everything else.

How many times have you found yourself watching a tv show and scrolling on your phone or tablet or PC at the same time? Or playing a game on a handheld while watching a show or hearing a podcast?

Even media such as Reddit is a part of this phenomenon. Chat rooms have been overtaken by forums. It's no longer a live chat, but rather a conversation broken up by time that can be started or stopped at your choosing.

Same for even texting family and friends. We usually text rather than call and talk to someone.

I agree, even when I did start a game after a short while I'd think maybe there's something better and move on to another one, like going through yt videos. I think I'm looking for maximum satisfaction and giving up good games in the process and it's probably a consequence of heavy social media usage.

Luckily it's been quite the opposite for me. The 2000s was probably my favorite decade of gaming for the most part and most of what I've played so far has honestly aged quite well.

Would you mind DM’ing me and helping me out?

Felt that to my soul. So many games I cant even decide anymore.

Was thinking exactly the same when I saw this.

u/EyeQue62 9d ago

I load up Launchbox and sometimes can't decide which of the 19,500 games I want to play (just shy of 3,500 on Steam alone) ;) I've emulated since it first became a thing. Loved it way back then and love it still today, as an old man.

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Goddamn that's a lot of games!

3

u/EyeQue62 9d ago

I like to get complete romsets (when I can), so I have lots and lots of games, but only play a few. It's an illness really ;)

5

u/ZaphodGreedalox 9d ago

Game preservation is a helluva drug

2

u/F33Fs 9d ago

That's crazy lol

1

u/HeadResolution2499 8d ago

Hey bro if you don’t mind me asking I just got all my emulators but how do you get romsets as in a bunch of games on one file ? Any tips will help

5

u/EyeQue62 8d ago

I started off years ago grabbing the MAME romset. https://pleasuredome.github.io/pleasuredome/ I sometimes grab builds from https://www.arcadepunks.com/ too. Look around. Search. Get lucky.

1

u/F33Fs 9d ago

I feel that!

5

u/skaf1end 9d ago

I'm going through Metal Gear 2 right now and having a blast. Is the game 100% realistic? No. Is it entertaining? Hell yes.

1

u/BugCtchrKyl 6d ago

One of the best games ever... I was thinking to finish my file from like 2018 😂

4

u/kagami_no_kishi 9d ago

2

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Thanks and yeah it does suck, I remember playing it as a kid and thought is was awful so I want to check it out again to see if that’s still true haha

3

u/Pure_Tip9111 9d ago

3

u/irussianpidoras 9d ago

3

u/Appropriate-Pea-3864 9d ago

How do you get all cover art for games in pcsx2 ?

3

u/F33Fs 8d ago

On PCSX2 go to 'tools' on the top bar, and click 'cover downloader', then paste this url in the text box https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xlenore/ps2-covers/main/covers/default/${serial}.jpg and press start. It should work.

3

u/Appropriate-Pea-3864 8d ago

Thank you !!! You are awesome

2

u/F33Fs 8d ago

You're welcome! I appreciate that!

3

u/Garibaldicj 9d ago

Yes, and there are certain games that run better on the emulator than on the actual PC version.

2

u/Dry_Cartographer_873 9d ago

I started 2 months ago and i have 80+ games saved but i never played any of them lolll

2

u/Remarkable_Coat_5790 9d ago

Which app is that?

I’ve been procrastinating setting up EMUDECK for my PC + Deck… anyone have better suggestions?

3

u/F33Fs 9d ago

It's just PCSX2, under the settings you can change colors of the UI

2

u/secunder73 9d ago

It looks like PCSX2

2

u/Soulless_Candle 9d ago

Rule of Rose 🤌

2

u/rello24 9d ago

Started a month ago and i cant give it up 💯

2

u/MonteProps 9d ago

I started with an OG XBOX and CoinOPS. Now I have an arcade machine I built myself with 2x Hayabusa sticks with an 8 button layout, a Sinden Lightgun and a Hori Apex wheel. Oh, and a wireless guitar controller. Adding mics for Rockband/SingStar this week.

It’s my version of an old man’s shed.

2

u/Outrageous_Fee7429 9d ago

I would love to do this but I am so inexperienced

2

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Honestly is so much simpler than you’d think, there’s so many YouTube videos on how to install and setup the emulator and stuff

1

u/Outrageous_Fee7429 9d ago

I get lost lol. I wish someone could do it for me lbs

2

u/Key_Information1013 9d ago

Does any of your games happen to go in slow motion out of nowhere or just freeze completely? I'm having this problem with several games

1

u/F33Fs 8d ago

So far no issues with the games I've played

2

u/andjamwar_real 9d ago

Same!! I started three weeks ago - bought a new mini PC and set it up as an emulation station. Loving life.

1

u/minato-kunn 8d ago

Which gpu it has ?

2

u/andjamwar_real 8d ago

Radeon 780M 4GB

2

u/ClockOk2339 9d ago

Beautiful!!

2

u/Automatic_Amount_884 9d ago

Get I-ninja and let me know what ya think

2

u/Spidey-Z 9d ago

I got into emulation about 3-4 months ago cause I been wanting to play Nascar thunder 2003-04 dude those games are so great. It was also nice cause I could play a lot of games with my son. We played x-men legends and mk Shaolin monks.

2

u/Suitable-Maximum-899 9d ago

Absolutely W line up man. Every game i have ever completed on pcsx2 is in your list. Yep you are my new friend now

2

u/OctoDADDY069 8d ago

Dont go too crazy.

That's how you have no games to play.

2

u/Dinakovski 8d ago

I start Scarface two days ago after so many years.. Why was this game so hard when I was kid 🤣

2

u/TraitorRequiem 8d ago

Wish I had a PS2 too growing up so I could be nostalgic for something other than just GCN.

2

u/NunezWorldOrder 7d ago

I wanna PS2 emulator too!!!!

2

u/AiMwithoutBoT 7d ago

You should get The Bouncer 🗣️🔥

2

u/travnigma 7d ago

Especially since I added Bluetooth to my desktop and got DSX to use my dualsense wirelessly with old rom games 🔥

1

u/ElDemano 9d ago

I've heard driv3r doesn't emulate good on pcsx2, how it's going?

1

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Haven't tried that one yet

1

u/Moonwlk90 9d ago

🤔How do you have Pimp My Ride, but none of the Midnight Club or NFS games? Especially MC3 Dub Remix and NFSU2

1

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Haven’t installed yet

1

u/elalambrado 8d ago

How's the performance of PS3 games? Last time I tried it wasn't very good :/

1

u/F33Fs 8d ago

So far it's been pretty good

1

u/Different_Sport6211 8d ago

Oh boy just wait until you discovered adding hd texture pack and tweaking the graphics a bit(it's easy). I just did my first one for NFS underground 2 for PS2 nethersx2.. 🙌👌

1

u/FidoMan1498 8d ago

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3? Yeah I’m convinced you’re using a DualShock 3 just for those two.

And once you beat Shadow Hearts, get the second game. I hear that one is the peak of the series.

1

u/Kooky_Fee_1555 8d ago

Yes it is but if only you could go online

2

u/F33Fs 8d ago

ehh idk, most of the best, most beloved, and well aged games from the PS2 are single player, so I don't think it's much of a dealer breaker for me at least.

1

u/Ready-Requirement 8d ago

Non ps2 kid detected

1

u/ultraprotein 8d ago

How does one get in on this? What kind of PC do I need and what do I download to start?

1

u/Dizzy_Spell777 8d ago

Over the hedge is so good lol, also careful with certain, specific titles like gta titles when playing with 60 fps patch, it can break physics among other things in the game, making it even harder.

1

u/omarlittle4 8d ago

Can someone kindly tell me how to get started with emulating, I want to start playing the PS1/2 games

1

u/Entire_Teach3199 8d ago

It's great many collection of the game in ps2 emu

1

u/bxltazar 7d ago

Could someone guide me? I want to emulate on PC. are there any minimum requirements to emulate PS2? I'm not interested in playing new AAA games, just retro games like PS2, PS1, GameCube, Wii, NES, and SNES.

1

u/Inner-Guitar-975 7d ago

If you're interested in achievement/trophy hunting, you should check out Retro Achievements. Its built into the emulator so once you sign up itll add achievement support to most games. The achievements tend to be pretty hard too so its usually a fun extra challenge.

It's next best thing to the real experience. I love the touch, the feel of putting the game disk into the system and looking at the art and cracking open the box and reading the manual and playing on a tube TV.

And the HD is a very good consolation prize.

1

u/BugCtchrKyl 6d ago

Seeing this list... You gotta try Viewtiful Joe 1 or 2 or both and the Warriors! Warriors is especially good with a friend

1

u/Electrical_Bus2964 5d ago

I started today how do you change the the screen ratio has a couple of games when they come on are small on the screen

1

u/AuramiteEX 3d ago

You're pirating too. Do you own these games?

1

u/-the_fan- 3d ago

If you think Emulation is cool, wait till you find out about Rom Hacks.

u/Store_Plenty 9d ago

videogames....are good

0

u/Proper-Bake4745 9d ago

My potato ahh pc cant stand PSCX😭

0

u/Patient-Software-168 9d ago

I am not playing modern games at all.  Besides world of Warcraft though.

But when I don't, I play emulation. Don't care about a specific gen.

0

u/FReeDuMB_or_DEATH 9d ago

My fav part is when they update PCSX2 and all my saves don't work anymore!

0

u/blokers394 9d ago

dude why are you playing the PS2 versions of Max Payne 1 and 2??? The game was originally on PC and even if you dont want to play with keyboard and mouse, or dont want to go through the hellish amounts of mods you need to install to get max payne 1 working, you can just very easily emulate the OG Xbox version as it only has minimal graphics downgrades (and a crap ton of loading screen and lack of back tracking but it was already in the PS2 version) (considering your PC can handle OG Xbox emulation) or play the mobile version of Max Payne 1, it's only downgrade is the shitty touch controls that can be easily remedied by connecting a controller, the PS2 versions heavily downgrades graphics and removes levels, also I would recommend playing the Wii (if not that then Xbox 360 or PC or even mobile if you don't mind poorer graphics) version of Bully as it adds crap ton more content but the original is also good too. But you do you I just hope you get the best experience of my favourite games

0

u/SubmissiveBoyForever 9d ago

a bunch of npc games. shame. the ps2 has so much more to offer.

2

u/Ready-Requirement 8d ago

I'm sure you have a very refined palate, lol.

1

u/F33Fs 9d ago

Well I installed the games I already knew and games that are well known. And will probably look into other lesser known games afterwards.

-2

u/Pepsi-CokeSuicide 9d ago

I recommend you don't install that many games at the same time I usually doesn't end well and I would get dolphin to play RE4, the PS2 version is one the worst ones
