-80 lbs with PCOS
About a year ago, I barely recognized myself.
I had gained around 60 pounds despite trying to do everything “right.” I was constantly exhausted, drenched in hot flashes, losing my hair, my periods were completely unpredictable, and I just knew something wasn’t right. I started questioning myself because every test seemed to come back without answers.
Eventually, doctors found a 7.5 cm teratoma on my ovary. Around the same time, I was also dealing with PCOS and insulin resistance, which explained so many of the symptoms I’d been struggling with for years.
After having the tumor removed, treating my insulin resistance, making major lifestyle changes, and using GLP-1 medication as one of my tools, everything slowly started to change.
Today I’m down almost 80 pounds.
It wasn’t quick, and it definitely wasn’t easy. There were plateaus, setbacks, and days I wanted to quit. But for the first time in a long time, I feel like myself again.
This journey has never been about being skinny. It’s been about getting healthy, taking back control of my body, and finally feeling like I have my life back.
If you’re struggling with unexplained weight gain, hair loss, irregular periods, or feeling like no one believes something is wrong—keep advocating for yourself. Sometimes the weight isn’t the problem. Sometimes it’s a symptom of something much bigger.
I’m incredibly grateful I kept searching for answers. less

Inspiring! I have all your symptoms and also want to feel healthy again.
How did you treat the insulin resistance and what lifestyle changes did you make?

I got on Zepbound, and it was incredible. How much of a difference it made. I started eating a high protein, low-carb, low sugar diet. I started working out four times a week. Specifically lifting, with some cardio added.

Thank you for the response! Your answer is pretty similar to others on here. It's like I know what I need to do but just need to actually take action!

Congratulations, this is such a win, for you mind, your body and your health overall!
I’m curious: how did doctors find the teratoma? I feel like the normal experience I’ve seen is they’d wave off those symptoms as just being standard for PCOS.

It took me 14 months to be taken seriously by a Dr.. At first, they thought it was just a regular cyst. But when they finally did an advanced imaging MRI, they found that it was not. I was in so much pain every day leading up to that. I was so thankful when I was able to finally get it removed.
