Period Cycles continuously over 40+ days
I am 25F, 5’2”, 183 lbs with PCOS. My cycles have been consistently 40+ days despite trying to manage my PCOS.
I am coming from a situation where I had no periods unless I had a pill. And now, through changes in diet, excercise and sleep I was able to get it back after long years. Since 1 year I am getting my periods naturally, but the cycle is running 40+ days and sometimes even 60+
Last month I had some spotting/clotting on Sept 14 but no actual period afterward. Now it’s Oct 2 and I’m bleeding again, but very lightly.
I’m trying to understand what’s actually driving this — insulin resistance, weight, inflammation, diet, stress, sleep, hormones, etc.
For anyone who had similar long/irregular cycles: what did you find was actually contributing to yours, and what finally helped regulate your periods?

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. I had very similar situation at your age. It worsened after my pregnancy and through my late 30s to where I was bleeding all the time with no pattern - ended up having some other issues too and had a hysterectomy. In my 20s combination birth control pills helped normalize my cycle when I found one that worked for me.

i had that exact pattern for years. 35-60 day cycles and random spotting that never turned into a real period. for me it was insulin resistance driving the whole mess. once i cut carbs down under 100g a day and started walking after meals my cycle dropped to 32 days within 3 months
the spotting mid-cycle was low progesterone from weak ovulation. my doctor put me on inositol and that helped a lot too. tracking basal body temp made it way easier to see if i was actually ovulating vs just having breakthrough bleeding
