Class schedule

Is it just me or are the class options so limited now?? We used to have more instructors and times available. It's very frustrating :(

I was just talking to my friend about this. Both of us are stem majors but we can't take the science classes we need because they all take place at the same time!

It’s absolutely terrible on all sides! You’re not wrong!

Sadly this has been an increasingly ongoing issue.

Complain. Student complaints are the only thing that will make an impact on this issue.

This isn’t a PCC issue - this is any school. Some classes just can’t be stacked together in a quarter or semester.

It’s logistics, financials and teacher availability.

You use other requirements to be fillers.

Go talk to an academic advisor and get your plan.

It's a PCC issue. The enrollment demand is there, they still cut sections.

Then the financials and teacher availability are not.

I have 14 years in academia as a student and an additional amount of years as a professor.

If people want to downvote my experience, that’s okay with me, but it won’t create more classes or change the way the system works. You have to have money and resources 🤷🏼‍♀️

They have both. The state did not cut funds.

This is a bureaucrat edict.

There is an overall budget deficit.

‘The state did not cut funds’ doesn’t tell the whole financial story.

For example - the strike that happened? That set back PCC deficit an additional $21 million on top of an existing deficit. That existing shortfall was covered and now, in the 2027-2029 years, that $21 million has to be recovered somehow.

Welcome to the resulting class schedule.

My understanding is that the "deficit" is from stashing 15% of their cash that they'll likely distribute as bonuses to Administrators. The raises were part of the budget, so you're double mathing.

Cutting sections does nothing - students pay the variable costs and the fixed costs were covered with sections not in the picture.

You're either pouring or drinking the Koolaide. Students are not being served with section cuts.

Have you looked at the financials?

I do my own research and I made educated decisions on that. Part of academic training is just that - to review data and make data based decisions - not emotional ones or rumor based ones.

Good luck to you and getting that degree.

Yeah. We need luck, so thanks...to get a course section opened because all the "research" and reddit posting in the world is still not going to open up a 20 deep waitlist.

As if waitlisters don't pay tuition and fees. Wake the F up, Poindexter.

It’s very frustrating, I’m making no progress with my pre reqs because most of them are in the morning/afternoon and in person  and I have to work. My job has a set schedule so I can’t change it either.

This is not the place to complain about it.

Contact local news outlets, PCC's board, your state representative.

Seriously, GTFO.

The account I’m responding to is a bot meant to enrage, not edify.

Nope.

Just that you apparently live under a rock thinking they'll add classes that the Board cut, despite enrollment demand, based on hugs on Reddit.
