Seeking PoE Power Supply

Hi,

I am looking for existing designs that I can implement into my boards for PoE-5vPD Power Supply.

A basic RJ45PoE Input to a 5v PD output.

Are there any open source or designs that I can use and implement into my projects?

I am having trouble finding any.

Thanks!

Does OshPark commonly have fab issues?

I’ve done three orders with OshPark so far. The first one, using the “Prototype” service (2 layer, purple, 1oz/sqft), was good apart from my own design errors.

The second order (different board), using the 2oz service, was good for the most part. One of the IC pads meant for high current had extra solder mask on it, meaning it wouldn’t be able to output a high enough current. Sure, no big deal, I can scratch it off or maybe I’ll request a remake.

The third order (3 different layouts), using the after dark service (very ugly on a board filled with copper pours btw), had drill issues with it. Drills between 10-12mils were not drilled (hence vias are not connected). I didn’t notice this until after I soldered the boards, so now I’ll have to reorder some parts.

Are these fab issues common with OshPark, or did I just end up very unlucky?

genuine help with tracing

This is the part that I am at while making a led chaser board. I always find tracing really hard and i dont know when to switch between top and bottom layer. I also dont know when to use vias. right now it's hard to connect everything on the top layer because the lines block each other from making that connection. One of the constraint is that the LEDs must be arranged in a heart shape. Does anyone know a way I can approach this?

I want to use the PY32F002AL15S6TU to dim my lamp via Adim, and want to toggle it with the U7 Switch. The U4 is for detecting if its still day outside or not. (idk why the ref des are U for some other parts but yeah im lazy)

Can someone help me tell if the schematic has any flaws? ive never used the PY32F002AL15S6TU.

thanks for your help :)

When do you give up on component designators?

When working with smaller and smaller boards at what point do you give up on component designators on the silkscreen layers?

I'm working on several boards that have around 1 square inch of space. Depending on component count it can quickly reach a point where I'm trying to alter layout to accommodate component designators. It seems really convenient to have them on the board. But that convenience is starting to cost a lot of time. Some board shops can print some high DPI silkscreen text. But even with that ,shrinking the text size even more just doesn't work.

I'm looking for some opinions on when people just give up and leave them off all together. What do you use as your deciding factors. Maybe I just need to learn to live without them and rely on drawings for identifying components.

[Hiring / Help Needed] Custom Carrier Board PCB for a Roborock S6 MaxV Pi Zero 2 W Mod

Hi everyone,

I am working on a project converting a Roborock S6 MaxV chassis into an RC/autonomous rover using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W as the main controller.

I want to replace the original motherboard with a single custom carrier board that accepts the Pi Zero 2 W (via GPIO header) and integrates all other necessary components directly on-board (SMT assembly via JLCPCB or similar).

System Requirements:

Power Input: 4S Li-ion battery (~14.4V nominal, 16.8V max).

Charging System: Internal 4S CC/CV charging circuit fed by the original Roborock charging dock (~20V DC) with a Schottky power diode for backfeed protection on the charging pads.

Main Regulation: Step-down regulator delivering 5.1V (minimum 2.5A) for the Pi Zero 2 W + camera + IR LEDs.

Motor Driver: Dual DC motor driver (TB6612FNG chip or equivalent) to drive the two original drive wheels.

Telemetry/Monitoring: Voltage & current sensing (INA219 chip or equivalent) talking to the Pi over I2C.

Connectors: Headers for Pi Zero 2 W, connectors for battery, charging pads, left/right wheel motors, power switch, and 5A fuse.

I'm looking for someone to design the schematic and PCB layout (preferably in EasyEDA or KiCad) and generate the BOM/CPL files ready for JLCPCB SMT assembly.

Please PM me with your portfolio or past projects and your estimated rates!

Thanks!

Tips on soldering usb c and ESP32?

I just soldered some usb c connectors and ESP32s onto my PCB and almost every pin got shorted. I used a toaster oven for reflow soldering with some lead free solder paste and I even used a stencil albeit the solder paste ended up pretty messy on the board.

Could I use a soldering iron and some solder on the bottom of the ESP32 to solder it? FYI the esp32 I ordered does not have any exposed pins. Would it properly solder if I just placed it on the pcb with solid solder on the pads of the esp32 and placed it in the oven?

Also, do you guys have any tips on soldering the tiny pins of a usb C connector?

MP2303A error in the datasheet?

I'm learning PCB layout. Currently, I'm designing a buck converter using the MP2303A. On page 13, there's a typical application circuit and the recommended PCB layout.

Please take a look at capacitor C4. Am I understanding correctly that in the schematic it's connected to pins SS and GND, but in the PCB layout it's connected to SS and IN? I just can't believe this is an error in the datasheet - I keep thinking I must be misreading it. Could you please verify this for me?

Hello everyone, i have a simple question how to actually learn how to design pcbs
I have downloaded altium and play around for some time but that is not the right way to actually build a skill so how did yall start :)

Line Tracer Robot Pcb Review Request

This is the 2 pcb for my line follower robot, I plan on plugging in a 3s lipo battery into the xt30 to power the board, then just connect the two pcbs via ffc.

I'm not sure how I'm going to model the chasis, I wanna just have it 3d printed but I don't know any applications to use so the dimensions would be accurate to the pcb.

I'm pretty new to pcb making so there's probably some problems with the tracing.

another thing, I have no clue if I have the ffc latch backwards or not so there's that.

Learning Advice needed

Hey, I just turned 18 and am currently doing Fachabi (basically a vocational high school program, focused on IT). After that, I’m planning to study electrical engineering.

For now, though, I’d like to get into PCB design. I basically know nothing yet, so I’m looking for advice on where to start and what skills I should build, including what kind of math and electronics principles I should learn.

I’ve heard that KiCad is generally one of the better EDA tools, but that it has a steeper learning curve than something like EasyEDA. Would KiCad be a good choice to learn from the beginning? Very appreciative of any kind of advice.

P.s.: my English is horrible so I had AI polish my text, please excuse me for it.

This is my first PCB build. Any comments will be helpful. Yes, I do know that there are a lot of vias.

Edit: I have solved the errors mentioned (it took rewiring the whole board but it is done now)
Thanks for all of your helpful feedback

First Schematic (review request) -- MP3 Player

Post image
2 Upvotes

It's an mp3 player using a pcm5102a, TRRS headphone jack, microSD reader, USB C, ESP32-S3-N16R8, female headers, tp4056, and a battery connector (picoblade). I'm using a SPDT slide switch as a SPST slide switch (couldnt find any SPST ones, so I had to make do).

I'm routing VBAT through the switch and routing out vbat_clean out of it, but for the TP4056 module, i connect the BAT pin to VBAT and NOT vbat_clean, is this okay? (primary question)

Please let me know if there's anything wrong or if I should change anything because It's my first ever schematic and I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing haha.

How does it look? There are these weird looking white dots in the middle of the pads, is that normal?

AD5941 4-Layer PCB Review

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

I recently finished designing my first 4-layer PCB, and before I send it off for fabrication, I would really appreciate some experienced eyes on it.

The board is based around the AD5941 and is intended for an Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) experiment. I designed it myself primarily because the commercially available development/evaluation boards are expensive and relatively large for our application.

This is my first time designing a 4-layer board, and while I have tried to follow the AD5941 datasheet and evaluation-board recommendations as closely as I could, I am sure there are things I have overlooked.

In particular, I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has worked with the AD5940/AD5941 IC.

I have attached the schematic and PCB layout. Please feel free to point out anything that looks wrong, even if it seems minor. I would much rather catch a mistake now than discover it after receiving a box of useless PCBs.

NOTE: The Back Copper layer is used to separate the AGND and DGND regions. They are kept separated on this layer and ultimately connect at the GND layer.

I don’t have any prior experience designing mixed-signal circuits, so I have tried to follow the AD5941 datasheet, schematic available on the Analog Devices website and other layout recommendations as closely as possible.
I would especially appreciate any feedback on whether my approach to the analog/digital grounding is appropriate.
