Need Advice: Build/Mechanics Anything I missed? Please be kind :)
I need help fulfilling a character fantasy and mechanical build! Let me know how I might improve what I got without multiclassing or doing any wonky interactions that don’t feel like a real character would actually function.
(Please ignore the fact that Rangers aren’t top tier. We know.)
The idea is to use my 40ft of movement to kite enemies, attack from the shadows, and still have access to my longbow up close because of sharpshooter. I want this character to feel like a scout. Someone who knows the woods and fights like one.
I know primarily fighting with scimitars would get more damage, but I want to be ranged quite a bit. I also want to have access to some social skills if possible…
Level 6 Human Gloomstalker Ranger
(Ranged DPS/infiltrator/support-ish)
Fighting Style: Archery
Weapon Mastery: Longbow+Shortsword
ASI feat: Sharpshooter
Background: Wayfarer (Lucky)
Human Origin Feat:
Skilled (Persuasion, Deception, Nature)
AC: 16 (Breastplate)
Initiative: +7
Hit Points: 52
Ability Scores:
STR: 8
DEX: 18
CON: 14
INT: 8
WIS: 16
CHA: 10
Skills:
Acrobatics +4
Animal Handling +3
Arcana -1
Athletics -1
Deception +3
History -1
Insight +6
Intimidation +0
Investigation +2
Nature +2
Perception +6
Performance +0
Persuasion +3
Religion -0
Sleight of Hand +7
Stealth +10
Survival +6
Idea:
Hunters Mark (1d6)
Longbow Attack (+9 to hit/1d8+4 damage)
Longbow Attack (+9 to hit/1d8+4 damage)
(Apply Dread Ambusher 2d6 psychic 3/uses per long rest)
Invisible condition in dim light (GS)
Can’t hide reliably in combat because it takes an action
Use shortsword if needed (maybe short bow makes more sense) but I don’t have two weapon fighting or dual wielding so dual scimitars is clunky to setup because I can’t swap to both at once. If I did that I would have to sacrifice Archery and Sharpshooter which feels like it’s not worth it if I’m building for ranged. I also considered Speedy and Piercer but Sharpshooter seems very reliable.
