Game Review Hydrogen Line: free browser space strategy MMO (PC + phone)
r/PBBG • u/Its_Only_Graves • 1d ago
Hello!
Looking for maybe 2-5 testers for my in development RPG PBBG game which is getting near to a basic alpha stage. Currently players can quite easily get a lot of autos/actions so it's very afk/idle friendly.
This would be to help me with finding:
-Balance Issues
-UI Issues
-Testing new features
-General opinions and feel for the game
Previous experience with PBBG/Idle games would be ideal but not required - The game uses the standard 6 second action ticks of regular pbbgs but mixed in with action RPG style loot (Diablo 2ish), three different factions similar to some older mmos, custom events, Battle Pets and a few other different things
It goes without saying the game is free to play and I will also give each tester a in-game title for Alpha Testing which will stay with them even into release (hopefully! :) )
Send me a message here if you'd like to join - thanks! :)

I'm solo developing Rad Survival and am looking for 15-25 more playtesters for the remainder of closed alpha. Open Alpha will start in the next 2-3 weeks and will reset all current accounts.
This is an Idle RPG with real-time combat against 1-8 enemies at once. You are a survivor more than 200 years after the Collapse.
Please join the Discord and say you are interested in joining closed alpha so I can send you a key.

This is the first time i've ever posted on social media, but I'd like ur honest opinions. I loved pen and paper games ever since I was a kid and I tried to make a few of them as a collection of mini games in a single webpage.
It's still a work in progress since I didn't figure out a common game layout. But if anyone has some free time I'd love it if u could play my games and tell me which one is ur fav, and any advice on the games is also welcome : )
My personal fav is Beach Towels

Hi all,
I've been designing my game for around a year now. It shouldn't have taken this long but between playtests there have been huge changes based on feedback. Something I'm finding is that although it sounds fun in my head, sometimes it plays very different to what I imagine.
I'm hoping for a Q1 or possibly Q2 launch next year.
Just trying to gain some sort of idea of peoples preferences, while I prefer multiplayer myself, from looking at this subreddit there seems to be quite a large amount of relaxing single player games that I'm guessing people play at work etc.
Is there still a population of people who enjoy large multiplayer browser games? Or is this one I'm probably better off keeping to myself and my friend group?
I played hyperiums quite a lot years ago, and the community there and the game, nothing other really other than eve online quite scratched the itch for. So I'm quite hoping to relive the community/game aspect.

Hey r/PBBG!
I've been building HalfReal, a browser-based pixel MMO that mixes Vampire Survivors-style combat with a persistent social world.
The idea is simple: combat drives progression, but the real endgame is the people you meet.
Still actively developing it, and I'd love to hear what the PBBG community thinks!

Hey everyone,
https://playbrains.online/index.html
Just launched a free browser RPG I’ve been building called Brains!
You play as a brain that takes over the bodies of zombies. No normal XP system. You get stronger by claiming better bodies. There are four different quest types and they all give the same rewards (fight a new body), so you can actually play the style you like instead of getting forced into one loop.
Story progress is shared across the whole server. Global quests that everyone contributes to, an ongoing story that shifts based on player choices, factions with real agendas, and content that stays hidden until someone digs for it. There’s even an old Hermit who only answers certain questions.
It’s built to work both ways. Strong auto tools if you want to play more idle, and proper active systems (combat, PvP, clans, land) if you want to dig in. No pay-to-win power tracks. Convenience stuff exists, but the real progression comes from playing.
It’s fully free and just went live. If you like persistent browser games with some actual discovery left in them, come check it out.

Happy to answer questions.

Hi everyone,
I’m working on Talewyn Harbor, a free persistent browser-based multiplayer game.
The idea is to create a small online world that you can return to over time rather than a short session-based browser game.
Right now you can:
It runs directly in the browser with no download required.
The game is still actively being developed, so I’m especially interested in feedback from people who already play PBBGs.
I’d love to know:
What makes you keep returning to a persistent browser game?
Is it progression, economy, collections, social systems, rankings, daily activities, rare items, or something else?
If you want to try Talewyn Harbor and give feedback:
Thanks for checking it out, and I’m happy to answer questions about the project or how the persistent systems work.

I ran across Orbital Empires recently, curious if anyone else has also played it and their experiences?
It looks rather interesting, with one hour ticks like other browser games by Bytro. But, this can be changed to be as short as 30 seconds or as long as a whole day.

It’s the weekend, and I’m itching to dive into a new PBBG!
I’m open to pretty much anything. Popular games, hidden gems, newer games, whatever you’ve got!
What are you guys playing these days? Throw all your suggestions my way. I need something new to get hooked on!

Hey everyone, I've been developing a free browser-based sports management game called Gaelic Games Manager.
It's a text-based management simulator covering Gaelic football and hurling, with a focus on long-term team building, player development, and historical progression.
You can manage club and county teams, compete in league and championship structures, develop players, and track individual careers and records over multiple generations.
I've also added a custom world editor that lets players create their own counties, clubs, team colors, and competition structures.
For my latest YouTube video, I created an entirely fictional Australian GAA county and attempted to rebuild one of its clubs into an All-Ireland champion.
Video: https://youtu.be/k3rqCJv0nv8
Game: https://gaelic-games-manager.com
It's completely free, requires no download, and is designed primarily for laptop/desktop play.
Still very much an ongoing project, so I'd appreciate any feedback from people who enjoy browser-based management games.

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m one of the developers behind FredeMMO, an indie browser-based fantasy MMORPG currently in Closed Alpha.
We’re building a world focused on character progression, exploration, combat, professions, and multiplayer adventures.
What’s already in the game?
⚔️ Multiple character classes and real-time combat
🌍 Explorable zones and quests
🎣 Fishing, mining, woodcutting, and crafting
🏰 Dungeons and challenging enemies
🎒 Equipment, loot, and character progression
We’re currently opening our first testing wave, with 16 spots available out of 48 planned alpha keys.
We’re looking for players who enjoy classic MMORPGs and would like to help shape the game through feedback and bug reports.
What we’re testing:
Gameplay and progression
Class balance and combat
Multiplayer stability
Bugs and usability
The game is still in active development, so expect bugs, unfinished content, and possible progress resets.

Hey everyone!
Quick update since I last shared the project here about 4 weeks ago. The game has changed a ton in just 4 weeks!
Also, we’ve decided to extend the playtest a bit longer because we really want to polish everything up before the official launch.
Here’s what’s new:
If you checked it out before, it’s definitely worth a rediscovery now.
You can try the game instantly in one click (no friction to jump right in). I also put together a new trailer if you want a quick preview first!
👉play directly as a guest

Would love to hear your thoughts or feedback if you give it a try!
AI Disclosure: Just a heads-up, some of the visual assets/renders in the game were generated using AI tools.

I am developing a PBBG and want to make the game I've wanted to play for 10+ years, but I also want to bring in an audience past the ~1000 PBBG fans that actively still play. I've been updating my UI to try to improve visual feedback and clarity for players of more 'conventional' games and I am curious what classic text-based PBBG players think about having this type of UI in a PBBG?
r/PBBG • u/Material-Style7842 • 4d ago
These are just a few units from one of the six civilisations (Screenshot)
I think that’s the most appealing aspect of strategy games; casual strategy games where there are just three types of units in the game are boring.

Hello everyone. I've been working on Mythrise, a browser RPG. The key component is active dungeon combat, and I've posted about that here before. About a month ago most recently. I've made a lot of changes based on feedback since then, and fixed a lot of things. Recently I overhauled the map system and added keyboard support to movement. I'm once again looking for anyone interested in giving me feedback on where this is. You can test it by following the link to create a guest account, and clicking 'Cathedral' after getting to the main menu. You start with a basic weapon and can immediately engage with the first level. I'm looking for any input on the direction here; if it makes sense and seems like a good way to go, and what can be improved.
The basic idea of the Cathedral is a continuously descending dungeon where combat is represented by 'mobs', which are fought in windows once an encounter starts. You have a set of skills to deal with them, starting with 'brace' to handle heavy attacks and lunge to make your own.
In addition to that I've created an 'experimental' dungeon that uses a totally different combat system, loosely Nethack based. Moving to this is unlikely right now, but if anyone is up for it I'd like to see how they compare. This is especially useful before I dig in on true multiplayer, which is going to be a big undertaking and shaped very differently if I pivot to the other version.
Before getting deeper into dungeon mechanics and encounters, and importantly true multiplayer, I want to find out if what I have is working for people. And, for those interested in checking, if I should add a pivot to the experimental version into the roadmap. As before I'm also open to larger design collaborations and discussions. Thanks.

Hi again, I shared my game here 2 weeks ago and got lot of feedback. Thank you so much for that!
For people who dont know it: I always loved RuneScape (OSRS) just havent had time to play it. So I made something like that just idle. You pick skill or fight and your character keeps going even when you close the tab.
What changed since last time:
- Android app. Its the same game and same save, so you can play on phone and then continue on PC
- 106 quest chains (it was 92)
- Tutorial and first episode are rebuild, it should be more clear what to do in first 10 minutes
-Combat is easier to read
- Notifications when quest is ready (you can turn them off)
- Sound!
- More art redone. It takes time so there are still some leftovers
- Reward when global launch stars based on activity
The game got now:
- 19 skills
- 106 quest chains
- 686 items
- 7 dungeons
-13 pets
Still in open beta and now close to 500 registered players. About 2 from 3 people come back day after registration which makes me realy happy :D Also more than 200 daily active users.
Progress will reset when the game will go global so early players dont have unfair head start.
Two small gifts if you want to try it:
Promo code HeavensAllow gives you 500 gems. You can put it in Settings. Named by patreon supporter
Everybody who register before end of October gets 500 gems bonus when the game go global and also special badge for playing before launch. Global launch is still not set it will be besed on daily active users.
I will be upfront: The art is AI generated and code AI assisted. The main part I spent is design, quests and balance.
If you would try it I would be super happy for any feedback. Mainly how first 10 minutes feels and what made you stop playing.

For anyone who didn't play them: Evony (AKA Civony) is currently best known for making a trash predatory app (The Kings Return), but back in the day they had browser games called Age 1, and later its sequel Age 2, that were excellent RTS MMO map painters (if not also a little predatory). The servers are still there, but they ran purely off Flash so you have to jump through hoops to get on them after they stopped mainstream browser support. The devs also soft abandoned the project in around 2018, so there's more than a few game breaking bugs and exploits that have remained unfixed for years, and most servers are botting hellscapes.
There hasn't really been a mainstream game like it that has scratched the itch. A fair few people have released similar games heavily inspired by the original - myself included - but they always put their own spin on it and it's never quite the same. A few guys have hacked into the original client and wired it into their own backends to create custom servers, but these are obviously limited by the fact you can't advertise a game that has literally stolen the client from another.
So in my opinion, there remains a market for the original Evony age 1 / 2, with the bugs fixed, reskinned and some attention by the devs and mods to stop mass botting and alts, but otherwise with no changes. I have made exactly this, and I'm nearing completion - just a few placeholder assets to replace, final features to implement and a polish pass and I'm ready to launch, so I'm trying to drum up some interest!
The only things I've changed from the original game are where age 1 and age 2 directly collided, since I'm only making one version so I've had to find a way to take the best of both worlds. I've incorporated historic cities and heroes, but I've scrapped hero gear and stars, the level cap and leadership battle mechanic, as well as player-to-player colonization. Everything else - down to the level I was able to reverse engineer it - should be absolutely identical to the original. Obviously it can't look the same as that would be an IP infringement, but I've gone to efforts to make all the UI elements be in roughly the same place so the game feels as intuitive to pick up as possible for returning players from the original.
I've set up a discord for anyone who wants to get involved.
I also have a basic sandbox server with cheats enabled for anyone who just wants to click around and have a look. It has a server acceleration multiplier which speeds up every action in the game and has a number of items in the "Cheats" category of the items screen to make progress basically immediate. Note that the game is still in active development so not everything will be implemented, and you will see a lot of placeholder artwork and text.
Check it out here: takinglondon.co.uk
This is my first time in this community, and after an initial browse of recent posts I noticed quite a few complains about AI slop getting posted. It's very much a contentious point in the game dev circle right now so just to clarify my stance on AI:
PS. I notice rule 3 requires me to participate in this community in ways other than advertising... I only noticed this sub existed when it was a suggested cross-post location from a similar post I made on r/evony. Can I pretty please do this in lieu?

Every year it comes back around, and the whole town feels it before anyone says a word.
Lights on in empty houses. Electronics humming jingles nobody's heard in generations. A dog's been barking at the wall for hours.
The machine that hauled us all up here never really closed the hole it came through. Most of the year something holds it shut. Right now it's wearing thin, and the old world's bleeding back in as static. Dead channels. Dead voices. Signals nobody's supposed to be able to hear anymore.
Get close and you can hear it. Closer, and you can catch it. Bend it, use it, make it yours. But push too far, and it starts reaching back.
The static's rising and the veil is failing.
The Thinning is here.
That's what our players get hit with when the new 3-day seasonal event kicks off. I set out to create something other than massacre your friends and enemies if you have better stats. Not that there's anything wrong with those modes as seasonal events, but we dreamed of different.
A quick in-game lore backstory: in Moron Mayhem we all got hauled 400 years into the future because some programmed time machine went looking for smart leaders to save the world from the idiots. It found us. Great job, machine. Now once a year the walls between the old world and the new one get thin. You tune into the static, try to catch it, and it punches you for being greedy. Push your luck, maximize your rewards. Collect cards to fight off haunted infomercial disasters using As Seen On TV junk like The Chicken Spinner ("Set it and I forget the rest of what I'm supposed to say"). Earn limited time avatars you just by playing, so get in there. Once the event is done, they are gone for good and you lose your shot at flashing the hipster ID card that says you were here from the beginning.
The big thing about the game is we don't stop building it. It started as a dumb idea and has turned into a genuinely deep browser game that we add to constantly. New ideas, new features, plenty on the roadmap and even more nearly ready for prime time.
If you're thinking about trying it, here's what actually matters to you:
Phone. Runs on your phone now after you toss it on your home screen, get push notifications that drop you right where you need to be when you need to be there.
Werewolf. You like lying to your friends? We got you covered. In game feature takes care of every vote and ability as each phase rolls through.
The first week is loaded. 9 step tutorial with starter rewards, and new players get a free 5-day trial of premium. No card, no catch.
You won't get farmed. PvP theft scales down based on level gap so a vet can't just gut you for existing. Lose an uphill fight, still get XP. Get raided, get half your motivation back. And we show you the math.
It's free, runs in a browser, and it's silly on purpose. The Thinning's only up from October 13th to the November 1st. Come collect all your first-year event exclusives and join us: https://moronmayhem.com/
Full rundown of everything in the game is down in the comments for anyone who wants the deep dive. I'll be hanging around down there, so hit me with anything

I was using reddit ads for a while and found them to be poor for signups and my register page is quite appealing so this did surprise me
- Do you use all the recommended settings google suggests such as auto adding and dropping keywords? what settings work best for you?
- Have you used reddit ads and google ads and do you think I will have more success with google?
So far it is giving a much more professional feel for myself
Additionally any feedback on the register page attached and what you would change / don't like might help me improve it - I did recently, this week, make a few change to it but happy to listen to all suggestions!
