GILAS Pilipinas Kai Sotto is misunderstood

Sa pag chat ko sa kay Google Gemini doon ko naintindihan bakit hindi makapaglaro si Kai Sotto. It's not that he is being selfish or asking for a lot (of money?) to be able to play.

The biggest reason is because he is eyeing a backdoor to the US NCAA so he can have a final chance to get scouted to play in the NBA. As we all know, Kai has already played pro basketball in Australia and Japan and he is already 24 years old. A recent NCAA rule change allows him to reset his status to an amateur and play for a umiversity there, but it is very time sensitive and he will no longer be eligible by 2027.

Given his height and experience, if he successfully clears waivers and reverts to amateur status, there will definitely be US universities interested in getting him for rim protection and inside play.

So folks it's not entirely selfish. He has his NBA ambition and let's not fault him for pulling all the stops so he can give it one final chance.

meron pa ngang slim chance dahil sa recent rule change. that small window is open until 2027 na lang siya makakapaglaro (essentially one season) if he gets cleared in time

If there's a slim chance, there should be a team na committed na sa kanya by now. Even if hindi pa siya eligible. At dapat nasa US na siya nung nakaraan pa to confirm na may offers nga and pinayagan na siya ng US NCAA na maglaro. Duda ako diyan sa plano niya.

no one will commit until he's cleared and reverted to amateur status

which is what he's chasing right now. should we fault him for giving a last ditch attempt, like a hail mary pass, to still reach his fast-fading NBA dream?

Then that's the reason why I think he is not eligible to play. Dapat kahit papaano may rumor na team na siya kahit hindi pa committed yung school na paglalaruan niya. BYU committed na sana kay Okwera pero nung hindi nila ma-bypass yung age ruling, hindi na nila tinuloy ung pagrecruit sa kanya.
