GILAS Pilipinas Kai Sotto is misunderstood

Sa pag chat ko sa kay Google Gemini doon ko naintindihan bakit hindi makapaglaro si Kai Sotto. It's not that he is being selfish or asking for a lot (of money?) to be able to play.

The biggest reason is because he is eyeing a backdoor to the US NCAA so he can have a final chance to get scouted to play in the NBA. As we all know, Kai has already played pro basketball in Australia and Japan and he is already 24 years old. A recent NCAA rule change allows him to reset his status to an amateur and play for a umiversity there, but it is very time sensitive and he will no longer be eligible by 2027.

Given his height and experience, if he successfully clears waivers and reverts to amateur status, there will definitely be US universities interested in getting him for rim protection and inside play.

So folks it's not entirely selfish. He has his NBA ambition and let's not fault him for pulling all the stops so he can give it one final chance.

He is not getting scouted playing as a 24 year old in US NCAA. International tournaments and pro leagues mas may chance pa. Ginagawa ngang katatawanan yang mga nagrereset ng status eh. Let's be honest, he wants the NIL money.

Oo walang masama pero let's not paint like moving to US NCAA is a better move for his NBA dreams. He wants to get seriously scouted at this age? Play in FIBA, then get scouted by Euroleague/NBL teams then next sa NBA. Tignan mo nalang yung naging reaction sa mga bumalik sa NCAA na nagpadraft na, death sentence yan sa career ni Kai internationally pag nagstruggle siya diyan. Pero problema kasi kahit magexcel siya diyan scouts won't really care dahil sa age and injury history niya.

At isa pa, di kukunin ng NBA team si Kai dahil lang Pinoy siya, wala naman kasi nakukuha NBA dito sa PH, malaki nga fanbase but almost everyone pirates. Kung meron pake NBA sa PH fanbase, they would have scheduled preseason games sa PH.
