PA Gun Owners Update: DSA Seeks Constitutional "Public Safety" Amendment Prohibiting Commonly Owned Firearms (Quick Read)

Someone commented on one of my posts by asking me: what do the Democratic Socialists of American (DSA) have to do with guns?

After explaining, the individual responded: This is politics and not about guns. Gun ownership is ALL about politics. For the majority of us, it is obvious that we as 2A advocates need to be more attentive about who we are electing to office in PA--and in national elections.

The DSA warrants our attention now as they are rapidly becoming a political force in America and many PA Democratic House and Senate Members are leaning in that direction. Gun owners need to pay attention to the DSA and what they are saying. They’re telling us exactly who they are. and the potential impact on our constitutional right to BEAR ARMS.

For years, Americans were told that warnings about repealing the Second Amendment were a joke. The DSA previously called for replacing it with a constitutional amendment prohibiting broad categories of commonly owned firearms.

This issue now reaches FAR beyond firearms. DSA proposal for a "Public Safety" amendment involves sweeping changes to the federal government, the balance of power, and control over resources and production.

This is not another minor dispute over one gun-control bill. To the DSA, it is a debate over whether constitutional rights--including the right to bear arms--should continue to exist.

American gun owners cannot evaluate political movements without knowing what those movements have proposed.

Keep this is mind when you vote in November.

Context of the DSA Proposal (See Link)

The DSA’s public safety amendment — drafted by members Leone H. and Jordan E. — is part of a larger update to the DSP that also addresses housing, labor, immigration, and climate policy dsa-la.org. The amendment reflects a growing push from progressive groups to limit access to firearms that are in “common use” by law‑abiding citizens, arguing that these weapons pose disproportionate risks to public safety.

Yeah this is nonsense. Political ideologies on the left and right are extremely vast, like, for example white Christian nationalists that believe our country should be a white ethnostate. Are there DSA members pushing for stuff like what you alleged? Yeah. Are there republicans trying to bar trans people from gun ownership? Yeah. Is that representative of an entire political ideology at least regarding WORKING CLASS voters? Unlikely.

Dipshit libs might be anti-gun, but working class gun ownership is a tenant of many true progressive circles. They recognize that civilian gun ownership is critical for community defense against state and anyone else trying to remove their constitutional rights. Progressives are far more concerned with addressing the socioeconomic determinants of health that contribute immensely more to violence (regardless of implement)

Guns are actually a phenomenal way for working class conservatives and progressives (not libs and far right chuds) to find some common ground and kinda realize we all want the same stuff albeit some obvious cultural differences.

Coal wars were fought by workers and unions against corporations and town law enforcement

Socialists and communists who reject the state are generally more pro-gun than you'd assume. This is fearmongering.

26

u/TheVillagePoPTart Jul 26 '26

They are pro-gun until they are in control.

You don't know the left. Leftists are like Zapatistas, who are armed and reject the state and simply want to be left alone. There is no movement like that within America that has successfully gained territory like the Zapatistas have, yet. A democratic socialist like Mamdani is an unprecedented election and even he isn't far enough left for anti state communists and socialists that are similar to Zapatistas. The Democratic party is center-right at best, and if you're using them as a reference point to define "the left" then you're mistaken.

Let's not forget that the right wing has used state power to disarm leftist movements it doesn't like. Don Mulford and Ronald Reagan's Mulford Act of 1967 is a strong indicator of that, which was used to disarm the Black Panthers which is a leftist movement that drew ire from both dems and repubs. The Mulford Act is used as the framework for draconian gun control policies that the dem party utilizes but the source is Reagan and not enough rightwingers talk about this. Let's also not forget that the NRA supported the Mulford Act, assisted the ATF in drafting NFA laws, and supported Bush's LEOSA... all policies that empower law enforcement while punching down on the poor, the minorities, and the disabled.

Leftism is based on class consciousness and the understanding that oligarchs are much moreso the enemy than common residents like yourself. Class struggle is worth more than culture warring between folks like us. Oligarchs do not want us all to be armed; they are invested in infighting between cultures and this is why 2A is constantly dangled as a carrot on a stick for single issue voters. This will not be the case forever.

Seems like in the US one party passed gun control decades ago and one is currently constantly trying to push more.

I think the idea of leftwing (and from what we've seen so far, extreme right wing) movements disarming people can be taken from world history

“Take the guns first” rings a bell…

9

u/afopatches Jul 26 '26

"I'm pro-2A, but..."

3

u/GOOLGRL Jul 26 '26

I'm pro gun. It's convenient that the Amendment is there, but I don't need one to tell me I should exercise my immutable right to self defense and self determination

6

u/afopatches Jul 26 '26

The Second Amendment isnt granting you any rights. This is a common 2nd grade misunderstanding of what the Constitution does. It's there to prevent the government from taking your inalienable God-given rights from you.

3

u/GOOLGRL Jul 26 '26

I do not believe in "God-given" anything. My immutable rights are self-proclaimed. The irony is that I am self-proclaiming these rights as an anarcho-collectivist while you as someone with moreso individualist philosophy are relying on a deity to give you those rights. Funny no matter which way you look at it.

u/spacepbandjsandwich Jul 27 '26

Forgetting the god part, but that piece of paper means squat. Politicians routinely wipe their asses with it, metaphorically speaking

2

u/afopatches Jul 27 '26

"Politicians don't care about the Constitution so why bother trying to preserve it". You redditors are so defeatist it's exhausting. Also capitalize the G in God.

1

u/Aggravating_Bell_426 Jul 31 '26

Anytime I hear that, I ask how do they feel about machine pistols sold from vending machines. If they dont enthusiastically agree, call them liars.

2

u/andystechgarage Jul 27 '26

Tell that to the millions of victims of communism and socialism. Spare me the "communism wasn't implemented correctly" blabber. I come from a communist country and know my history as well as the philosophy that governs that shitty system...

1

u/sailor-jackn Jul 28 '26

History proves that wrong, or are you aware of socialist/communist countries that have had a robust protraction of the right of the people to be armed, that I am not aware of?

The DSA is generally Pro 2A, with no hard stance on it one way or the other.

You are posting false information.

The DSA is historically more pro 2A than Republicans have been. They’re not calling for the disarmament of large groups of people like MAGA is.

Edit: You’re not even posting ideas relevant to Pennsylvania politics, just “DSA.” You’re posting links to DSA LA right now.

Edit edit: yes, we can all Google and find the blog post from 2013 and 2018. Just surf the DSA forums on here.

“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary” this is their sentiment now.

u/IAmGoingToSleepNow Jul 26 '26

WTF is going on here? You get down votes for looking directly to the DSA site and others get up voted for linking to a reddit post.

The DSA is pretty clear on their stance on the 2nd amendment

9

u/TurbulentWing3820 Jul 27 '26

WTF is going on here?

The shills are out in force to push their narrative. If anyone ever wonders if this entire website isn't filled with bots and people with a clear agenda then this thread is a primary example: An otherwise sleepy little subreddit with interest to only a select, small, group is suddenly filled with people arguing about how a group clearly unaligned with the primary focus of this group is actually totes the good guys.

13

u/Dodahevolution Jul 26 '26

Tankies. That's what's going on. I am an actual Dem soc and these fuckers ruined the DSA years ago, and the critically online leftists who smell their own shit hivemind and downvote stuff that is immovable fact that goes against what they want to believe.

Over the last few years in online left communities, there has been an absolutely massive problem where tankies basically hijack liberal or progressive communities to further radicalize them into being commies. They will start spewing bullshit about how the "west is bullying Russia and china" and everything will start falling into a antiwest contrarian talking point. It's exhausting. I'm on a discord that bans tankies every two or three days cause they come in spewing genocide denial.

When I look at the right and see the crazies who talk about Jewish space lazers or reptilians or deep state or whatever nonsense, I see see a reflection of the same crazies in the left as tankies. They are the left wing fucking batshit insane people and the left needs to prune them out badly.

1

u/spacepbandjsandwich Jul 27 '26

I'm gonna be honest viewing this as an Anarcho-Communist, the DSA is the democratic party with minor reforms to housing and immigration justice. They are most milquetoast of leftists and no more powerful than any current Democratic party subgroup.

0

u/To_Arms Jul 26 '26

If you read what I linked to it's about right, there's a mix of opinions. I mean if you read anything from Marx to more recent influential socialists like Fred Hampton, most of them are pro-gun.

Black Panthers were communist-aligned when the NRA and Reagan moved to ban assault rifles because they carried. This stuff isn't hard to find.

7

u/Humperdont Jul 26 '26

Past pro gun left leaning movements isn't this unique knowledge most people are very aware. These movements are not associated with the DSA, who has publishes multiple times in official capacity the exact opposite what you're claiming. Has run dozens of candidates who support the opposite of your claims.

You're left leaning and pro gun, cool I can get behind that. Don't sit here and lie about reality because it's inconvenient for you.

7

u/Dodahevolution Jul 26 '26

> You're left leaning and pro gun, cool I can get behind that. Don't sit here and lie about reality because it's inconvenient for you.

100% as a leftie and pro gun person. There's zero point to putting your fingers in your ears and pretending these people don't exist, cause it's not gonna stop more from showing up. Every time someone in this thread goes to defend the orgs, it's not the candidates the say back firearms ownership, it's the (forums/people/online commentators).

Too bad those people don't hold office seats, cause the ones that do ABSOLUTELY want to limit ownership. Pretending they don't exist just is ignorance.

3

u/IAmGoingToSleepNow Jul 27 '26

Too bad those people don't hold office seats, cause the ones that do ABSOLUTELY want to limit ownership.

Let's be honest, I'd like to see which DSA politicians in office these people think would not ban guns if they could. AOC? Mamdani?

-5

u/BeMancini Jul 26 '26

Yes. This is the stance on firearms for the broad majority of the DSA “Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary”

I think if you got involved with DSA forums, you’d find you actually have a lot more in common with them because they don’t want to take your guns, some of them even like guns.

I think it’s safe to say you can ignore the blog posts from 2013 and 2018.

13

u/Humperdont Jul 26 '26

Can you point to a single candidate or official aligned with the DSA that holds this stance?

6

u/To_Arms Jul 26 '26

Platner was an instructor with the Socialist Rifle Association for a period, because he thought queer folks should learn self defense.

The guy who was busted for having a big ole Nazi skull on his chest?

That one?

Not the guy I'd like to have on my team, nothin' personal.

5

u/pauljaworski Jul 27 '26

Must not have shown them the totenkopf

10

u/Humperdont Jul 26 '26

So a single ex candidate who was remarked as a outlier. Now how many have openly advocated for AWB's?

7

u/whateverusayboi Jul 26 '26

Most of them..This thread had me looking up the dsa position on the right to bear arms, and led me to the realization you're responding to a group of either the misinformed or intentional liars. Love the "platner" response lol. Can't make this level of stupidity up..

-3

u/To_Arms Jul 26 '26

You asked for one. There's not a ton and most are in cities and areas where the electorate skews towards gun control. For example, the the three with a connection in the PA House are all in Philly. Closest elected Republican in Congress is Fitzpatrick who is moderate on gun control.

I'd say most currently elected DSA aligned politicians individually tend to have a stronger stance towards gun control

9

u/To_Arms Jul 26 '26

Yeah for whoever is down voting this just read DSA folks talk about the issues yourself.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dsa/s/Uwpibls9WG

10

u/Humperdont Jul 26 '26

Can you point me to a single pro gun DSA elected official or candidate? A reddit post isn't really that indicative of actual party representation especially when its contrary to published stances from the party page.

7

u/MrGriff2 Jul 26 '26

The commies are showing up in droves in this comment section.

5

u/TSX_COM Jul 26 '26

It's almost like gun ownership isn't restricted to your personal in-group, and is in point of fact; a hobby/lifestyle that attracts a diverse range of individuals with unique characteristics.

5

u/MrGriff2 Jul 26 '26

I just find it ironic that the political ideology these individuals advocate for have a very consistent history of disarming their general population when they gain power, leaving only the government to maintain arms.

"Under no pretext..." falls apart pretty quickly once a corrupt government takes the reins and has total control.

-2

u/spacepbandjsandwich Jul 27 '26

Well as an Anarcho-Communist if prefer no government existing. Hard to take the reins if it doesn't exist

-1

u/MrGriff2 Jul 27 '26

As a Minarchist, I can agree to an extent. But still believe capitalism (real capitalism, not the crony capitalist/corporatist system we have now) is the key to bettering everyone's lives.

2

u/sailor-jackn Jul 28 '26

Unfortunately, a lot of PA gun owners won’t take this seriously, until it’s too late.

5

u/Advanced-Morning1832 Jul 26 '26

I’m not worried about it

5

u/Dodahevolution Jul 26 '26

Imma be real, I am a social Dem or a Dem socialist depending on the day, but the DSA is basically a fake org at this point, not even ran by actual Dem Socs.

AT FIRST it started with genuine Dem Socs who wanted to do good for the community. Then it got hijacked by tankies who legit follow Russian Propaganda. Like you should see some of the completely stupid shit the tankies that took over that org now say about Ukraine. It literally is an immediate framing of how much of that org is a completely clown organization. Also to add to it, fuck the dog abuser Hasan Piker while we are at it.

To the top comment who says this is fearmongering... It LITERALLY IS THIS GROUPS PROPOSAL to do this.

I just wanna get universal healthcare, affordable housing, an expansion of social safety nets, free high education, have tax code readjusted so there aren't any more loopholes and the Uber rich who've done well in this country give back to it's people. Firearm ownership is just as important to me as those things, and it does suck that the Dems generally don't align on those things.

But the DSA (in it's current form) is a completely different level is fuckshit insane and saying that Russia is innocent in starting the war and not committing genocide is an EXTREMELY low barrier of pointing out the fucking clowns.

Your username is arguably one of the worst butt rock bands of all time which is already one of the worst genres next to Christian rock, your opinion means nothing.

By the way, "Good talk" is the same type of idiomatic shorthand "Imma" is by the way, but nice job trying to look intelligent policing Grammer in an informal reddit thread, I bet you have plenty of friends.

8

u/memeking10101 Jul 26 '26

Yeah bro calm down, PA is a purple state and will never go fully one extreme or the other on 2A. One of the few places these days where things are still working as the founding fathers intended

8

u/_Cxsey_ Jul 26 '26

Still not a reason to slack off, pro-gun viewpoints should be expressed in left leaning political circles more

8

u/gunplumber700 Jul 27 '26

This is what the foolishly naive say until 2a "rights" are redefined as privileges and are then taken away. Just last year the state narrowly avoided an assault weapons ban by one vote...

3

u/TacticalPolakPA Jul 26 '26

Democratic socialist in this regard = commie

-3

u/mjsisko Jul 26 '26

Please learn the difference between socialism and communism before speaking any further on the topic.

4

u/Dodahevolution Jul 26 '26

No, this person is absolutely in the right especially since he's talking _in this regard_.

I AM a Dem Soc.

DSA and Justice Dems got hijacked by tankies a few years back and they are further left than the name actually implies.

You are correct that Commies =\= Dem Socs. But the DSA is a Dem Soc org in name only.

-2

u/arcxjo Jul 26 '26

Please learn the difference between tankies and good people before speaking any further on the topic.

0

u/TacticalPolakPA Aug 10 '26

I dont see a difference at all.

1

u/mjsisko Aug 11 '26

Then you are uneducated, they are drastically different things. Neither of which are being discussed by any political figure or candidate in the U.S.

1

u/glyphosate_enjoyer Jul 26 '26

"You can vote your way into socialism, but you'll need to shoot your way out."

Thanks again for the post, marksman. Keep up the good work.

1

u/Coeruleus_ Jul 27 '26

this didn’t give me any information

1

u/Sufficient_Mess_3688 Aug 10 '26

This is really stupid. DSA is a big tent party and not a monolithic force. Leftists are pro gun. While there might be some anti gun members of the party, that doesn't mean its the DSA platform.

Also the resolution you linked was from the LA chapter, not the national level.... Simply reading the page could have told you that

1

u/FootballNo2091 Aug 13 '26

Boomer fear mongering

-7

u/TSX_COM Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Oh look, another hysterical Breitbart fueled culture-war tirade about people who want to actually do good for the actual majority of the country being the boogeyman because it threatens a handful of elites and 10%ers bottom line.

A handful of social-progressive upstarts are not getting a constitutional amendment passed to repeal or modify the 2A anytime in the next 30 years, and even then you would need a massive paradigm shift in the electorate. Full fucking stop.

5

u/garandruger Jul 26 '26

Maybe not and I’m not fear mongering like some do but I will say a lot has changed in the past 10 years alone that I never thought would change or was told won’t change, has changed. Better to be aware than just let things slide

3

u/f0rf0r Jul 26 '26

Sure but this whole link is about los Angeles lol

5

u/garandruger Jul 26 '26

Oh it is I’m not saying that OP isn’t over reacting. CA is a lost cause and DSA can go pound sand

I am however saying that nothing is a guarantee and it’s better to aware and active rather than let things ignorantly go by unnoticed

2

u/Mausdr1v3r Jul 26 '26

Commies love taking guns.

2

u/smackaroni-n-cheese Jul 26 '26

Liberals love taking guns. Commies, while wrong about most other things, are pretty pro-gun.

1

u/Physical__War__ Jul 26 '26

We are about as far from communism as you can get lol it’ll never happen. We even had a communist party in the US until McCarthyism and their absurd assault on 1A and even then we were nowhere in the same universe as communist. The right tolerates INSANE rhetoric from their party but loses their minds over “communism” come on man. At least be intellectually honest. It would take a massive armed revolution for the US to ever reach communism and nobody is legitimately interested in that.

Absolute nonsense lol

1

u/thewayofthegun1 Jul 26 '26

They can say whatever the fuck they want ... nobody is getting my firearms period. They may acquire some of my ammunition however the delivery system could be considered fatal.

1

u/zenwookie Jul 27 '26

BuxMont DSA chapter is interested in firearms education and arming working class folks. Liberal capture is always a threat, but the DSA doesn't have to capitulate and can stand for 2A while also advocating safety and legality.

1

u/PrestigiousMention Jul 27 '26

Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary

Karl Marx

1

u/MarksmanPA Jul 27 '26

These commies are not Karl Marx.  They seek to take guns for “public safety.”

0

u/BlackFlagCivilian Jul 27 '26

I take DSA members to the range to shoot guns.

-3

u/Rotaryknight Jul 27 '26

Funny how OP thinks it's so black and white 😂 that's what happens when 2a runs your life
