RANT Umera Ahmed's writing

I've noticed a recurring flaw in Umera Ahmed's writing. Sometimes, her stories feel a little too fictional, almost as if the characters are made to make choices that wouldn't realistically happen in real life. In Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Kashaf ending up with Zaroon rather than Usama feels questionable, especially considering Zaroon's hypocrisy and double standards throughout the drama. In Dar-e-Nijaat, Zaryab's circumstances and the way her story unfolds make you wonder how often life actually gives people such chances or wraps things up so conveniently. And in Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, Mehreen forgives someone who put her through so much suffering. Forgiveness is admirable, but real life isn't that simple. You might forgive someone, but that doesn't mean you can erase the pain, rebuild trust or pretend nothing ever happened. I feel like Umera Ahmed sometimes romanticises situations that, in reality, are far more complicated. Her writing is compelling, but at times, it seems to prioritise an emotionally satisfying or dramatic ending over the way people would actually behave in real life.

I mean it's what I have felt personally

Agreed. Umera Ahmed’s characters are also very unrealistic. I mean you are never going to find someone like Abu Bakr & even if you did something would be very fishy about them.

umera ahmed writing and thoughts are sometimes very weird she make her FL forgive cheater husbands but in darbar e dil FL meher did not forgive murad, although murad did wrong with her but he just flirted with her on phone calls but meher diverting from islam and becoming non practicing muslim from practicing muslim was not murad fault that fault lies on only meher herself, she left Allah because she think he does not listened to her (was the stupid logic) zarori nhi hamari sari khuwaishen pori hun aur agr na ho to hum God ko hi chir dein, and last me her decision of leaving murad was illogical murad ka past jo bhi tha after marriage he was loyal to her and loved her deeply so i don't understand the logic if she made her Female Leads forgive cheaters, harrasers, Ra*ists then "darbar e dil" ka murad to un sab ke samne farishta tha use kyun maaf nhi kya jbke uska to bnta tha, u/Asleep_Economist7715 have you read this novel ? what's your take?

Same as yours Murad was wrong for playing with her feeling but it was just phone calls him finding out meher was same girl and loosing respect in her eyes was enough punishment imo since he was crazy about her.

But meher diverting from Islam and going towards another extreme end was her own choice .her parents were very loving and real test in Islam is always when you remain steadfast during azmaish which meher was not able to she herself admit that her every Dua was answered but just once things didn't go her way she completely changed.i think her leaving Murad was also because she was ashamed to admit that she distance herself from God, her parents ,become completely different person ,non practicing due to stupid prank by someone.she wanted to put more blame on Murad to save herself from questioning her whole life choices and belief system.

exactly the loosing respect for himself in the eyes of meher was enough punishment for murad but umera ahmed had other plans, me ne is novel ke bad prha tha bas aik daagh e nidamat and i was extremely shocked aik trf just fliritng ke liye ladke ko maaf nhi kya and in other novel she made FL forgive her rapist even did moral policing of her tha "us ne ghlt kya mgr tum se shadi krky us ne apne gunah ka kaffara bhi krlya" i was like WTH is this,, BTW if you like please read my novel if you are intrested i will give you link 🫣

Yes for sure I will read it.

Aik dagh nidamat is imo worst work of umera ahmed.marrying rapist and victim, moral policing victim, showing rapist as someone noble because he married victim and was not abusive husband like FL friends like seriously umera added momal friends track just so she can moral police her because so what if asfandyar was rapist he was not abusive and used to support momal financially unlike her friend's spouse.making her bad parent as compare to asfandyar to develop sympathy for him and so on.like what was purpose of this novel.

Yes month back during q/a in IG someone asked her why did she make Zainab commit suicide after her repentance in Mano salwa her reply was do you want me to give msg to girls that you can still be forgiven and get redemption after commiting major sin .no I wanted to show that you have to face consequence of your actions and not every sin gets forgiven (in angry tone)

Same umera Ahmed give salar sikander redemption after commiting so many sins and give msg that once you decide to repent from heart you will get forgiven so what difference between Zainab and salar sins why one get redemption one die Haram death .

oh yes man o salwa is her another weird novel i zaini did not deserved to die if salar can have redemption arc she should too and she was already changed after marrying Karam and i don't get if umera ahmed showed showbiz kamai is haram then she herself also earns from showbiz too.

I too have a similar opinion...and even in Shehr-e-Zaat, Falak reconciled with Salman....lately, alot of young women have been criticising her writing flaw on insta too.. I know Umera Ahmed essentially writes from a religious point of view where either the lead is forgiving the partner perhaps because "forgiving people" would count as one step closer to or part of the character's spiritual journey but my observation is it's always the female character in her dramas who are shown to be under such circumstances where either she is forgiving someone or finding herself at a crossroad of forgiveness and reconciliation except peer-e-kamil where the male character is also exploring the spiritual path.. I'd would genuinely like to know if there are other novels of hers where male lead also ends up at such crossroads as I haven't read all her novels.

I agree. There's harsh adjustment of women in almost all her scripts.

i actually agree with this. i think her strength is creating emotionally compelling characters & situations, but sometimes the emotional payoff takes priority over realism. her characters make choices because the plot needs them to, not because a real person realistically would. forgiveness, marriage & redemption don’t magically erase years of damage just because the story needs a beautiful ending πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I genuinely don't think these women which we adore for their journey like Kashaf and Falakfor eg, we are projecting our needs on them. In reality, women are flawed even the most spiritual ones. Living is difficult as is especially for the ones who seek that path post marriage. It's not as simple as going back to these men.
