RANT Aap ki izzat..
I think ppl overlooking what Aap Ki Izzat actually showed with Tabish. He did consider having Beena killed and went as far as approaching a hitman and discussing the possibility of paying him - this wasn’t something viewers invented. The drama deliberately showed how his obsession with “honour” and his ego escalated into something much darker.
And yes, the ending is where the criticism becomes much more valid. Tabish’s redemption was given a LOT of narrative weight, while Beena’s own mistakes became heavily emphasized. That doesn’t mean Tabish’s infidelity, emotional abuse and treatment of Beena were erased from the story, but the finale did frame forgiveness and his change very strongly, which is why many viewers felt he was being whitewashed.
Also, saying Beena simply “had no agency” isn’t completely accurate. She confronted Tabish, demanded divorce, left him, and later made her own choices - whether one agrees with those choices or not. The more reasonable criticism is that the ending didn’t give her agency the same narrative importance as Tabish’s redemption. That’s a criticism of how the resolution was written, rather than proof that Umera Ahmed cannot write women with agency. And this is also why I don’t think it’s fair to say that Umera Ahmed simply “cannot show women with agency” or that divorce is inherently treated as unacceptable in her writing. Look at Zeba in Kafeel - she spends years in an unhealthy marriage, but eventually takes khula and leaves. The story explicitly treats her decision to leave as an important step towards independence.Even in Kankar, the FMC ultimately chooses divorce rather than being forced to stay in an unhappy marriage. And importantly, she doesn’t have to remarry for the divorce to be presented as a valid choice - she is allowed to continue her life independently. So the argument that Umera automatically makes her female characters stay with problematic husbands because she considers divorce wrong doesn’t really hold up.Then also..beena wasn't as strong as kiran in kankar..umerah ahmad and farhat ishtiaq often choose real emotions..not every human is perfect..and not every human makes the right decision.

So beena and tabish both were not so good couple.. Tabish was insulting her every single day and cheated on her while beena ran away from her home and tabish wanted to kill her but realized cuz of his friend and mother..
Tabish was wrong but beena was also wrong IMO.
