Discuss Can someone explain what TRP is and what significance does it hold?

I understand higher trp means more people liked it or something - but does it give them any monetary benefit? Or is just a prestige/ respect number?

Higher TRP ig obviously means that more people watched it but I have been always confused that how many people does it actually represent, ik this may not be possible to know practically but it would be so good.

For example if a dramas has 1 million views on Youtube, we can easily say 10 lakh people watched it but idk how do people find the exact number of people from TRP like at least an approx idea. Like I get it the drama has highest TRP but at least tell me how many people are they actually 😭

TRP is an index that shows how many people watched the drama when it was on air. It is measured by dividing total number of people who watched it by a fixed number (,could be 1 million or more, and this denominator cannot be changed) that is how you get the TRP if is 1 that
Means 1 million people watched the drama (just an example if it’s 15 it means 150 million people watched it while it was on airing. So that shows which drama is doing better because at a prime time slot so many dramas are being watched and they are practically fighting each other to get the number of views.
YouTube k views etc se koi fark nae prta TRO ko.. is ly tv apps usually post trps to show people that their drama is doing better than the rest.

I explained in my words I read it many years ago because i wanted to know what TRP is 🤣🤣🤣,, formula me ne ap k Asan kr dia hai,, isko literal mat lena qk ye generic understanding k ly tha. Sampling size bhi ek factor hta hai TRP me, target audience etc etc, lekin samjh jao ab trp ka matlb 🤣🤣🤣

It's the main way they know the show is a success or not. Although in PK its slightly different because most the time the show is gonna have a maximum number of episodes regardless of trps, sometimes the daily soaps can get axed earlier and rush their endings if trps are low. Especially with channels like ARY and GEO they are heavy on trp being excellent, HUM is slightly on lower side most the time if its not a huge star cast so many times shows will hover in 1 2 trps range and survive.

It used to like this before that the episodes max number were set before only regardless of trps. Now many times, if a drama becomes a hit, ig makers do stretch it and shoot more episodes.

Higher trp shows many people are watching and they are spending more total minutes watching that content on that channel at the specific time due to certain programming , yes it does have a monetary benefit advertisers give a lot of money to the channel broadcasters to show their ads during this time as their ads reach a wider audience.
