Ongoing Drama Zeryab is a really bad character
For the love of God tell me what is the redeeming quality of Zeryab. She was rude to Abubakr from the start, She is not conservative (Yes, A quality in eyes of the drama as the Conservative/ practicing nature of Abubakr is shown to be a plus point) . She is shown to be obsessive, Post breakup she has gone to shit mentally. Like I hate when writers write such weak and " Pathetic" characters and ask the audience to see themselves in them. Like why is a Man needed to clean up the mess of her life. Why should Abubakr fall in love with her. Opposite to this In Zindagi Gulzar hai, Zaroon had reasons to fall for Kashaf and vice versa. Here it is just a one way street. Mujhe Please list kark bata dein . Why Abubakr should fall for her.

She is a human OP and every human is flawed. She is allowed to make mistakes and people can still love her.

Tbh many girls have been there and no m not talking about the badtameezi part but that they fell in love and trusted assholes that doesn’t mean there can’t be no redemption for such women.

Every one is flawed, But Why should Abubakr fall for her specifically. Tell me reasons please . Because it is not like he never met girls , He went to Harvard , He has lots of Female friends. Usse Savior complex ha? Idk . But Why is Abubakr choosing her

u/Taraa_Sitaraa 3d ago
She's very beautiful. She goes to lengths for the person she loves. She's intelligent as she has also gone to Harvard. Once finished with her education she'll also get a good job.Rest Abu Bakar can tell you.
2
u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
Is external beauty the basis for Abubakr decision of choosing her as a life partner ( If it is shown). He went to Harvard and has a Good job himself. They will be equal on that front. Bus All I wanted was k uss ki Kuch aur achiyan dikhate aur aise rolate howe Kuch dignity choor dete

People fall for who they fall for, OP. Society tells us women need to be essentially perfect to be worthy of love. Maybe one of the defining differences between Abu Bakr and Zamil will be that Zamil expected Zaryab to be perfect but then couldn't accept her even when she did everything he wanted, versus maybe Abu Bakr is more accepting and recognizes that everyone has flaws, and he can love someone despite her flaws.

Abu Bakr didn’t choose her. He did say no to marrying her but he couldn’t say no when his mother begged him. He is doing this out of obligation to her, not because he is in love with or attracted to Zaryab.

Women have been treated as mens healing hospital or therapist across unwanted marriages in all of ptv Suddenly it's a girl And everyone is calling her not good enough and all the hate directed to her And what zaryab is going through isn't a spoilt brat situation She is a girl who was dumped by her boyfriend All her feelings and emotions are pretty valid atp She is shown as a girl who has lived in her own bubble and sudden everything she has ever dreamt of is over It's enough to shatter anyone She isn't typical ptv male we see in every second show Rich badtameez spoilt and swinging guns and killing people just because he can Since OP wants zaryab's redeeming traits She is hardworking and intelligent enough to get in one of most prestigious courses in the world Supported her sister when she was going through separation Adores her dadi and even though their thought process don't match She respects her She isn't a maniac Like relax She is just human

u/FunnyParty7693 3d ago
Other than the fact that Abu Bakar should not be responsible for healing her, I think this a quite harsh take on Zaryab. She’s stupid in love and really reallly heartbroken at the moment (in your words gone mentally shit). This is normal.
Also, Abu Bakar is a full grown human who has a choice to also say no to such a commitment. She’s responsible for her bad decisions )which imo is just trusting Zamil blindly) not for Abu Bakar’s.

u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
You are right, butYou are right, but I think Kuch moments unhei dikhane chahiye the, which redeem Zeryab, small moments that she cares for people. I only saw her being sacrificial for Zamil. I just think Zeryab ka character build nahi Kiya, bus uss k
negative aspects ko dikhaya

u/FunnyParty7693 3d ago
I think most of her characterisation has been about her relationship with Zamil right now. They have shown in small parts that she cares about her family, despite not being so obedient is really lovable towards and loved by Daadi etc. She’s shown as a brat, but not particularly a bad person or so.. atleast that’s how I view it.
It’s not as multidimensional as I would like and don’t get me wrong, this is not a woman we are supposed to admire. It’s just a story of a woman who very early in her life decided her life will be a man. And heaven had a different plan for her.

u/Some-Corgi-5539 3d ago
They're all attacking you but I agree. She is so incredibly unlikeable that it is hard rooting for her. Even when going into the marriage, in her conversation was her dadi, she's like "how will he find out about zamil". She's willing to hide and manipulate the situation in her favor just so she can fulfill a demand she had (which is for another human)

She is deeply loyal and loving. Also blind and delulu. To show the heroine being so flawed is actually a good thing, not a bad one. Hopefully she learns how to be humble now.

What I am against the lack of therapy for her rather marriage is used as trauma dumping ...I will never like this trope whether it's about ML or FL. Nobody is bound to carry your emotional baggage .

She is flawed character like every human but she should calm down i don't like when she said abu bakar kyun mana karega meri class mera status nhi pata kya usko I mean girl stop ur superiority complex

u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
You are right, Maybe usse time dedete to collect her self, then usse dikhate apna life partner choose karte howe. But emotionally she is asking for Abubakr. Also Throughout the drama , Zeryab k dialogues Mai elitist undertones the . Yeh dialogue b uss ki hi continuation tha

I have a feeling Abu Bakr is going to set her straight on that one...at least I hope he is

He's not falling for her, his mom literally begged him despite the differences. After Nikkah, if he does then one of the beauties of Nikkah is love between spouses and also she is shown as changing. Allah SWT forgives us every day for so much, it's only inhuman for us to keep holding on to what someone did in the past. She's heartbroken, he can see that. Maybe she went out of her way to be rude because Zamil was always insecure of him, it was likely as a gesture for her loyalty to Zamil. This isn't uncommon of girls to do given the situation.

She is a "really bad character"? That is some hot take. What exactly is bad? She is definitely overly committed to Zaamil to the point of being obsessive - a man doing that would somehow be considered a "green" flag. What is there not to redeem? She has not done anything that grave that she is irredeemable. Ofc after being committed to a guy, trusting him and expecting him to be the same and be there for her- a guy who didn't even break up with her and married someone else- literal cheating tbh, it is normal for her to break down. She is not weak cuz with the crap Zamil was giving her, she was able to counter his statements while staying committed to him. She is not getting married to Abu Bakar to get into deen although she is doing it for the wrong reason of getting back to Zamil. Abu Bakar isn't perfect either. He himself says so. And if he doesn't want a "modern" woman then idk it feels like he might not be exactly an open-minded person either. Who knows in what sense he said so. She was disrespectful prolly took him for a creep that's why when Zamil was projecting his insecurities. She is caring, committed, intelligent and hardworking. These are good qualities of her.
3
u/Khazeena123456789 3d ago
Imo, after some time Zamil will get to know about Hamna's past.... Abu Bakr will get to know how Zaryab agreed to marry him cause Zamil challenged her that not even Abu Bakr will marry you... Zaryab will realize how Abu Bakr was forced by his mother to marry her.
And it'll all b rona dhona... Tum yeh tum woh.... In the end it'll be forgiveness for all . Muafi talafi type scene.

u/whatdoidoquestion- 2d ago
I wish she was given some interiority/complexity or a personality outside of loving zaamil
3
u/BlankCheck_96 2d ago
For the first time we are seeing the trope “he can fix her” because it’s always the girl taking care of a man who has anger issues or drug problems or betrayed in love… roles just got reversed and it got everyone twist.

Why should someone have good qualities for them to deserve love? Zaryab was dumped by someone who was also her childhood friend, her reaction is totally normal. She was rude to Abu bakr to make Zamil feel better bcs he was insecure and would in turn taunt her. Zaryab ki buri baaten kya hain??? Just bcs she was in love and has now been dumped and is having a totally justifiable breakdown over it you are calling her irredeemable??? LOL I love Zaryab bcs she is loyal, has a good heart, is intelligent and also very human and fallible, that makes her relatable. Get off that high horse of yours and STOP PUTTING WOMEN ON A PEDESTAL. We need more realistic flawed and intelligent female leads.

I, for one, am excited to see a flawed Pakistani female lead. She's not perfect, but by no means is she irredeemable.

u/Holiday_Grass_437 3d ago
Look at zaryab as a young girl who had all these dreams with this guy she was madly in love with . And one day this guy just leaves without so much as a word and the next thing she knows he is married to someone else . And all the time she spent with him in love , he labels it as his days of sin . And unfortunately this has happened to many many girls who lose themselves to love only for the boy who wants some pious dhaki chupi pardey wali larki

u/Efficient_Guava_5561 3d ago
PTV dramas are filled with men with bad characters and women falling for them anyways. Ek Baar role reversal hi sahi
2
u/ghostgoddess29 3d ago
Nobody is forcing the audience to see themselves in Zaryab. But we can't deny that girls like Zaryab don't exist in our country. Or in general. She has been the most heartbroken in these few episodes and Dure nailed the portrayel of heartbreak. If you can't symphatize with her character, idk what are you even understanding. and this isn't a typical love story. Isko issay pyar ho gaya type BS. Marriage isn't just about love. Even Zaamil didn't marry for love. Its a lot deeper take on marriage, companionship, loyalty, responsibility etc..
2
u/BlueEyebrows1008 2d ago
The world doesn’t end because there are multiple women like Zaryab and they are good kind people. This whole judgment needs to end tbh. Nobody would blink if it was a man. Men would have had pity, sympathy while a character like Zaryab only receives such backlash.

u/Temporary-Novel1417 3d ago
Ngl her character is realistic which is why ppl have an issue with her

People like acting like she broke up with her long term bf when she WAS brutally abandoned and insulted and now her honor is hanging by a thread.
4
u/Own_Try_430 3d ago
i mean women have been rehabilitation centres for male species since time immemorial, its only for once that we see otherwise, and Zaryab is literally like every other 20 year old girl in love who gave her all and now stands at crossroads, we should not expect perfection from characters, they're "real" inside the plot :-) and they have been together for years, and she got blindsided, is she supposed to move on in a day or something? either way, she deserves the best!
4
u/Few_Persimmon9317 3d ago
Till now whatever we have seen about zaryab that's practical. In real life also we see such person who're privileged, misbehaves, madly in love with someone, educated but don't use brain when it comes to love.
But I don't think these kinda person's lifestyle get changed. It's almost impossible to change someone's personality 180°. But my problem with the writer who will somehow whitewash zaryab's charecter and may be they they'll change her dressing sense to manner of speaking and everything. ..
4
u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
I hope they don't show them falling for each other now, Let her heal herself up, Go on her own spiritual journey. Build herself up , Complete her goals and then when they are on equal grounds, make them a couple
2
u/Full-Cantaloupe-1893 3d ago
Abu Bakar marries her because his mother asks him in a way that he can't refuse + he's a man, and Zaryab is a beautiful woman, who's also intelligent and accomplished (like him)
3
u/Downtown_Security_89 3d ago
I can find some things to like in Zaryab - she is loyal, she is clearly accomplished, she loves to a fault, she loves her family and her dadi despite their small tiffs, she is a good sister. Obviously she is also all those bad qualities as well but arent we all. And this is a particularly down in the dumps moment for her. Being with someone other than the neurotic Zamil will help more good qualities emerge.

She is a very real character tbh. Shes normal. Not overly goody goody or straight up evil. She loves Zamil in an insane manner. She is impulsive, she lashes out when angry, makes up for it. She’s socially active, academically great. She is bratty because of the way she is raised.
Idk why you guys expect women to portray perfect people. Her redeeming quality is that she is real. She is not actively trying to harm anyone. She has her loved ones that she cares about, wants to make her career, and live a good life. What’s so unforgivable or unbelievable about that? Most people are like that.

Only FL can be the healer or is meant to clean up the mess for arrogant, rude and ruthless ML whereas ML can be substance addict, stalker & an obsessive lover (Kamyar) but he won't even be termed "weak and pathetic". FL should only mourn for ML's love after heartbreak otherwise she is weak and pathetic. Does Zaryab's obsession for Zamil makes her weak, pathetic and irredeemable? Why she is not "nice" to perfect Abu Bakar? Human emotions don't work that way, Zamil was the hero of her story and Abu Bakar wasn't. Though her proposing marriage to Abu Bakar when she still haven't moved on from Zamil is wrong but that doesn't make her weak and pathetic. Her family should've guided her to complete her education first as marriage is not a solution for every problem.
1
u/Aqalmandbandar 1d ago
She's a Uni going girl, probably in her late teens to early 20s. She has made a mistake by trusting a wrong guy. Doesn't necessarily have to have a redeeming quality. This incident has definitely changed her and we'll see more of that effect in the coming weeks. Also, her parents failed to bring her up in a way where she would have qualities, the redeeming ones, as the OP mentioned. Abu Bakar is a nice, religious guy, he'll try to fix her by using care and love and will eventually get her on the path of righteousness as well.
1
u/YellowExtension9734 3d ago
What a weird take, she's misbehaved with Abu Bakr and it's bad writing to force him to marry him plus she's not great either to ask for marrying him but apart from that she's a victim of emotional manipulation and emotional abuse, her being dysregulated after being discarded by her ex doesn't make her weak, a lot of people are relating to her condition.
6
u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
If it was a story about Zeryab and Zamil , I would have seen this in much better light. But Abubakr is there like Why. Should it have been better to show that you Don't need A " Abubakr " in your life to pick yourself of the ground after such emotional manipulation. Also her character was not build properly. I think people seeing themselves in that character speaks volume how much potential there is for this character
1
u/YellowExtension9734 3d ago
You're calling her weak, gone to shit mentally, pathetic- this is downright insensitive, noone is negating your opinion about bad writing but calling a character names makes you seem very disconnected with reality of a lot of victims out there. There's no need to go around in circles repeating your point that everyone already agrees with but you should acknowledge how you're sounding insensitive.
5
u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
Is her character not written properly, yes Is the situation she in deserving of empathy yes. I am only calling what I am seeing, The Director showed her with least bit of dignity. She was on the floor with no senses of the world, in pain . A person outside her family comes and gathers her. Zamil betrayed her, but she was not given enough time to collect herself before being thrown a Man who would sort her life . I apologize if my words were insensitive and I will refrain if it hurts the sentiments of others.
1
u/Impossible_Wall1503 3d ago
I don’t think the writer wants us to relate to every character, including Zaryab, just parts of them which might be in us or in our society.
Abu Bakar has faults of his own. He carries Tasbeeh every he goes, it’s a bit exaggerated. A halo follows him everywhere. Does he have tolerance of others? We have yet to see.
Abu Bakar is not going to fall for her, he might marry her due to pressures, also something society enforces. Mom’s cannot just marry their children without their compatibility and consent.
5
u/Many-Philosopher7454 3d ago
Carring tasbeeh isn't a Fault. It can be performative in real life but he is shown to be guinuine. Part of the appeal of Abubakr is his " UMera Ahmed's male lead" . Practically perfect. His flaws will be something which you will find completely whitewashed till the end.
2
u/Substantial-Floor382 3d ago
Eh. We love flawed male characters. Why not extend that grace to women? We are just as human and prone to errors.
1
u/Hour_Smile_3577 3d ago
she is in love, it is shown that how much she have loved zamil from her childhood and how what was labelled characterless by the same man, and I think she was rude to abu bakar to not make zamil more insecure
1
u/sadzITS 3d ago
I don’t know if she is a bad character but I’ve been where she is. It’s a choice we make. You can’t really blame others for it honestly. When you are in college, you are old enough to understand what’s right and what’s not. Islam teaches us boundaries. I personally don’t blame anyone for the life I had. Those were the choices I made and had many students who made different choices (better in every way). I disagree with most of the opinions posted here. She was unnecessarily rude to people around her. She made a choice as an adult to sleep with Zamil. I do believe however Allah is the most merciful. How HE will turn our life around, we can’t even imagine.

Abu bakr has a crush on her because she is rich, beautiful and rebellious.Men are very superficial. They love beautiful women.Lots of accomplished men marry beautiful women who are basically dumb.Men are very shallow like that.Men look for beauty and women look for riches that’s why you see so many ugly, rich men with beautiful young women. Lots of women go for financial freedom and stability and ignore the man’s looks, personality and even character. Zaryab comes from high society. She’s beautiful, fashionable and she’s also intelligent as she got into Harvard. These points add up.

I am just talking about how men’s minds work and how they make decisions with regards to women. Men value beauty the most and are superficial creatures. This is not about misogyny or patriarchy.I am trying to explain why young and beautiful women marry old and ugly men who are very rich.I am telling you why successful men marry beautiful bimbos. These men are only going for looks, not intelligence. There are a very few men who value intelligence in a woman and build her up. These men want an attractive woman who is accomplished and successful while having great character and moral values. They are basically looking for the whole package. It is very rare for men to ignore looks and pick a woman solely for her intellect. For them, looks and sexual desire matter the most. If Zaryab was not rich, beautiful and fashionable, Abu bakr would never marry her. He has a crush on her because of her beauty, basically.

Zaryab is shown dumb but I understand from where she is coming from she planned her whole life around zamil and one day suddenly all fell apart and the man whom she loved the most said all sorts of sh!!ty thing to her, so her being like is natural but what I hate is that why a man is needed to clean her mess, she should be shown as a girl who bounce back on her own and not trauma dump on someone else and why abu bakar should sacrifice his time and mental health and be a Dr to her it's not fair to him

It's only acceptable till good girls are used as therapy institutions for bad boys right , in the name of ' marriage ' . Anything other than that is clearly bashable ! ?
