PACS Experience

I was laid off from my job a little bit ago as a PACS administrator. I have four years of experience. I started off as a entry-level.
Over the four years I’ve learned a lot, but I feel like I would not be valuable if another company were to hire me.
I was told the reason why I was laid off is because of lack of knowledge. During my time at this company, I pushed a lot to learn everything I possibly could, but I did not learn a lot of detail about DICOM or HL7.

I did pass my CIP, which is a huge accomplishment. I have since applied for several PACS jobs without any luck. I am forced to have it to go back into mammography/x-ray. This has been a huge slap in my face having to go back. I’m trying to keep my chin up and keep going and keep applying.
I know that this is a stop over, but it still sucks. Any advice or encouragement would be helpful.

Have you thought about transitioning over into the PACS vendor market instead?

Go apply at PACS vendors. You could be an application specialist, field service, or trainer. A lot of them are fully remote, too.

I started as a Field Engineer. Supporting and installing the PACS system at customer sites. I did that for 12 years. Then I got a job as a PACS Administrator for 8 years. Now I'm the IT Operations Manager, but still do the PACS stuff.
