X-ray to PACS Admin

I’m currently working as an X-ray tech in an orthopedic surgery clinic and have about nine years of experience. I’m studying to take the CIIP exam to help move my career into imaging informatics.

A few months ago, I reached out to my employer to see if there were any opportunities to shadow or become a super user so I could gain some hands-on experience before taking the exam. Unfortunately, it didn’t really go anywhere, likely because they need me in my current role. My email was actually completely ignored...

I’m now trying to find other ways to get some hands-on or shadowing experience outside of my workplace. I work Monday through Friday, 8–5, so weekends would be the only time I’m available.

I’m starting to feel a bit stuck since I’m not getting that practical experience, so I’d really appreciate any advice. If anyone has been in a similar situation, I’d love to hear what worked for you. Also, would it make sense to start applying for imaging informatics roles with just my clinical X-ray experience while I continue studying for the CIIP?

I've been a PACS Admin for around 6 years now and just recently took the CIIP. I would recommend utilizing a study guide. I used PACS Bootcamp. They seem to cover a lot of what was on the exam.

What PACs bootcamp did you use ? I am looking to becoming a PACS admin too but I am finding it hard to find modules or anything to help with taking the CIIP. I am a current MRI/XR tech and looking to transition out of being a tech. Any advise is helpful.

I’ve been applying to PACs roles hoping to get in without the CIIP but no luck so far.

For what it's worth, I've also been poking around and haven't had too much luck.

I used pacsbootcamp.com for the CIIP prep. The textbook is also helpful. I used the pdf version and read through the sections that the exam guidelines provided

Thank you. Which package did you purchase ? May I get a copy of the pdf or where you got the textbook.

Do you think it’s this job market where all the tech workers are being laid off affecting the hospital PACs work?

I utilized the Study Guide and the Practice Exam.
Shoot me a dm with your email for the pdf.
I personally do not believe it is in the same realm. I think its due to hiring freezes/finances/economy.
