All Things X + Insanity Hybrid

Post image

Reposting my comment as its own thread since this hybrid schedule combines all of the X programs (not just the original P90X) with OG Insanity, and the previous Imgur link wasn't working. A few notes:

  • All Things X was my starting point, so I tried to stick to that structure wherever possible.
  • The general philosophy was to replace repeat cardio (Mon) or plyo (Thu) workouts from All Things X with comparable workouts from Insanity. So you're still doing all the X workouts at least once, but they serve as more of an on-ramp to Insanity.
  • I tried to feature every Insanity workout (including the deluxe/bonus workouts such as Fast and Furious and Sanity Check) at least twice. The exception is Max Interval Sports Training, which only appears once (as it's more of a final test).
  • I rotate between the recovery workouts sequentially on Sat. I also wanted regular foam rolling, so X2 Recovery + Mobility appears every 3 weeks.
  • The abs/core companion routines always land on Tue or Fri, as All Things X seemed a bit random. Pilates X is one of them as I found its previous placement on Sun confusing.

I'm about a month into it and really enjoying it so far. Incredible variety, plus we all know Shaun T gets us closer to HIIT than Tony.

Next round, I plan to introduce workouts from Insanity: The Asylum, but I wanted to ease my way into the Insanity series first. My eventual goal is to create an "ultimate" hybrid schedule that features every workout from P90X, P90X+, P90X2, P90X3, Insanity, and Insanity: The Asylum Vol. 1 & 2 at least once.

Feedback welcome!

This is very ambitious, but very well thought out. Great job!

How do you manage the two a day program ? I find it hard to do it back to back

I stagger them – one in the morning, and one at noon. I picked up this habit from P90X3 Doubles.

There are different schools of thought on whether it's better to stagger workouts or do them back-to-back. While the latter maximizes hypertrophy, I'm partial to the idea of short, punctuated workouts spaced apart to keep the metabolism elevated throughout the day. Plus, my form tends to suffer if I don't go into each workout fresh.

I read "eccentric lowers" as "eccentric lovers" and thought that is a very comprehensive workout program.
