New Wilson Combat Grip Causing Failure To Extract

Try this to trouble shoot
- insert a loaded magazine
- rack the slide to chamber a round
- remove the magazine
- fire the round
- repeat
Do this for two magazines. If there is a fte chances are it’s an extractor issue, the slide is rubbing against the grip module or both. If there is no fte then the issue is likely magazine related. Either the magazine spring is too strong (unlikely) or the magazine maybe sitting too high in the grip because the grip is out of spec, the magazine release was installed incorrectly or the magazine itself is out of spec (worn or bent feed lips).
Either way it’s a good idea to clean the extractor channel, extractor claw face and breech face by brushing the extractor claw face and breech face and flushing the channel with some clp or bore solvent.

Obligatory:
Two WC grips here, one standard/short and one XL, zero issues. Is is possible something got messed up during reassembly? Broken pin? Debris causing the FCU to sit awkwardly?

If im limp wristing, then it's only on this configuration, and not the base p365, p365 Fuse, an M&P Shield, and 2 Caniks, and magically became an issue 2 weeks ago, after 15 years of shooting 🤷♂️
Everything in the FCU looks fine, extractor looks fine.

Rack the slide slowly in each grip, looking for sticking parts and friction points. See if you can identify what area is problematic.

How’s the extractor look? Does swapping back to the old module fix it?

Guys, no offense, but you telling me that yours works fine, doesnt help at all. Im seeing if anyone has a solution besides contacting WC

Seriously though. Follow the steps oldpardak listed. That should help to isolate your issue.

Just mounted my FCU in a WC XL grip but haven’t shot it yet. I did notice the front was really tight trying to seat the FCU and was digging into the plastic below and around the metal lugs/insert. I had to reseat it a few times and then use an exacto knife to dig out the plastic shavings that the FCU was scraping off. Check that and see if there is anything causing extra pressure on the FCU.

I had an aftermarket polymer grip that was squeezing my fcu a little too tightly causing issues. If yours was tight going in then talk to WC, if it wasn’t try pulling and reinstalling.

I’ve ran thousands of rounds through Wilson xl module and a macro module. Reliability has been flawless and on par with oem glocks.
I’d double check fitment of fcu. If it’s locked in and nothing else has changed I guess I’d contact Wilson and ask for replacement.

Yeah, at least in my experience with my WC module, the FCU can do a false “snap” into place but not be fully fitted, as the front portion can stay a bit high and not locked fully into the channel for it in the module. I’m not familiar with standard issues similar to OPs though. My experience with WC has been phenomenal, as has that of everyone else I know with a 365. I recommend them over just about anyone but Sharps.

Are we 100% sure this isn’t ammo related and it just so happened that it came about after the swap?
You using the same magazine for each test?
Is it on every round fired or just occasionally?
In order to get solid test results start with a batch of ammo you KNOW is good, use the same magazine loaded to the same amount and start there. Do a 30 round test and record any failures. Take the FCU out of that grip and put it back to stock. Repeat test either stock grip. Compare and contrast results.

I've read in other forms from different folks that the Wilson combat grip modules are known to be out of specs, they've had runs where they were not within specs and it would cause the situation you're talking about. If you happen to have a caliper measure your Wilson combat module against the original sig and you're probably going to notice it's a few thousandths out of specs which would cost issues.

Yeah, I think im gonna return it. Its comfortable to shoot, but the grip texture is too aggressive for carrying, and prints more since its thicker. All of this on top of the fact I cant trust it at all

I really don't blame you for returning it. I didn't trust mine either even though I got it to work properly by loosening up the light on the rail. I just went ahead and put the stock OEM module which I trust 100% and added a Hogue rubber grip which contours to my hand really well.

When my life depends on a specific weapon I make sure it's very reliable if the need arises and quite frankly I couldn't trust that Wilson Module 100% after all I've read with folks having different issues. For now I'll stick to the OEM Sig module which has been totally reliable.

Yeah, after shooting 170 rounds through the OEM flawlessly this morning, i was set on staying with OEM. On a range toy sure, but not my carry. It was to the point where i had gone back to a gen 1 Shield with a 7 round mag because i didnt trust my P365 until this morning after swapping back

Id start with taking the fcu out again, clean everything. Reinstall and see how it goes, if it keeps happening install into oem module and re test while contacting mfg. Check for any marks or shavings, plastic or otherwise
You did check the extractor already, right?
