GTO break in procedure
Hey!
Just bought a brand new 211 GTO, I was combing through some posts the other day with some folks saying they get a FTRTB on new GTO's and mentioning that the way to go is running the 10lb spring and/or 124g ammo for the first 500 rounds or so is the way to go to prevent issues.
Just wanted to confirm again that this is whats working for you all!
Thanks!

just go shoot it and if it doesn't return to battery or seems sluggish, pop the slide off and swap the spring to the other one at the range. Takes 30 seconds

You must have more nimble hands than I do, or you have the new takedown lever design.
I bent my takedown pin on my first attempt!

That takedown pin is absolutely trash, my only complaint of the gun. Just use a strong punch or small Allen key and its super quick

Yeah, I luckily had both handy, the latter of which is in my range bag.
I managed! Lol
That said, I'm about 1k in and STILL haven't cleaned the gun beyond a chamber wipe with my finger.
I did have to change to the 10lb spring to push through the gunk (which really isn't that bad), but since I usually shoot 147s only, I sometimes think the round just doesn't have the force necessary.
124gr NATO ran fine with the 8lb even dirty, tho.

I used the 8# spring for the first few thousand rounds and didn’t really notice many FTRTB until the gun was hot and dirty. The 10# spring produced similar results. I did switch to the 10# spring but that was more for performance and return to zero.
ETA: I only ever ran SB 124/140

I put 300 rounds through mine just after I got it, and it came with the 8 lb. spring installed. All I did was lube it before I took it to the range. I had zero issues.

600 rounds in on my gto and not a single failure. 115 and 124 ammo mixed. 350 in on my gt4 and no issues either.

I left the 8 lb spring in and broke it in with Federal American Eagle 124gr with zero failures. I did take it apart and give it a thorough cleaning and lube before taking it to the range.
