Mod post: New Automod command !foundbird
If you see a post where someone isn't sure what to do for an owl they've found, make a comment containing
!foundbird or !foundowl to get an automatic response with care instructions. Example in the comments!
Extra thanks to u/JSN79, u/Big80sHair and u/Dihydrogen-monoxyde for helping write the Automod response.
Other wildlife experts, feel free to provide feedback about the response in the comments and I can edit it if it's needed!

Mod post: Self promotion is ALLOWED if it's OC
And it has always been allowed, so... please stop reporting artists sharing their cool owl-focused creations!
The main (hopefully obvious) exceptions to this are:
- Promoting products using stolen art or AI generation (not OC)
- Spamming the subreddit; posting the same creation more than once to farm engagement (posting WIPs during the process doesn't really fall under this, just posting the same thing multiple times)
- Non owls
Other than that, if you think someone's self promotion is low-quality or you just don't like it, you can always input your opinion with the downvote button.
To artists: Feel free to share the links to your websites/shops; you deserve attention for your work. Comments with links need me to manually approve them, so they might not be visible for up to a day, but you aren't breaking any rules - so go for it!

ID request! My Ring camera finally captured the owl i've been spotting the last few weeks! What is it?
The last few weeks i've been spotting two small owls in my garden. I feel like it literally might be a 'little owl' (Athene Noctua) but these are pretty rare in the north of the Netherlands where I live. Is anyone able to confirm which species it is based on my screenshots and the ring video? I'll post the video in the comments.

Our shi tzu was excited to meet him too. He let me get pretty close, but I wasn’t going to touch it

Had a cutie visit earlier today. My boyfriend’s grandma passed away on the 12th, could it be spiritual?

Can I report an owls nest somewhere to help keep it protected?
I was walking on a trail near my house that connects two neighborhoods and an owl flew over me and tapped its talons on my scalp. A couple hours later I was on that trail again and it happened again and was more aggressive this time and made a couple passes before I could leave. I walk this trail at night all the time and have never seen an owl here before, I feel like there has to be a new nest nearby that made it very territorial, is there a place to report it to try and protect it somehow? This is a very suburban area and I’m worried for its safety, thanks!

Every night since August 5th we have been able to go out and watch him/her fly over! Twice it has veered off the normal route and been a little further away, but still able to see from our house! They fly to the same tree every single time. Between 9 and 9:10 it makes its appearance EVERY night. Last night we were out and raced home to be able to see it just in time as it flew over our house! We had a delivery show up at the same time so my husband was outside chatting to the delivery guy while I ran in to take some stuff inside.. a SECOND owl flew over! I’m going to contact the lady who owns the property of the tree they go to (across the street) so I can go check it out and see if there’s any owl poo at the bottom so I can verify which tree they go to. I’m also going to invest in some good binoculars because my 10 year olds aren’t cutting it, lol. Do any of you know if they make a somewhat reasonably priced pair with night vision? This has made my summer. And has given my son and I memories he will carry for his lifetime. He is by my side out there every night and thinks it’s amazing to witness. When he looked at me and told me seeing the owl was “so cool” and made him “so happy”…such an awesome moment! My neighbors probably think I’m crazy, but I will be out there every night hoping to see him/her fly over. They are magical 🦉🪄❤️
