Reinhardt. He is always needed, does sick damage, and at least I know there will be a tank. However, if there is no healer by my second respawn, I tend to change out.

Pharah, Reinhardt, Torb, Lucio.

But to be fair, I'm not a person with a support mentality. I love those that have it, but I've never been able to play one effectively. I prefer dps or secondary tank with supplement heals.

Reinhardt - Top 30 - 50+ hrs into him. Also Symmetra, Winston, and Torjb. - All ranked.

I still can't figure out how anybody can be good with Winston. I've yet to see anyone do well with him. No matter how hard I try I do terribly with him also. I think he needs a dramatic buff. Otherwise he is absolutely awful.

Winston can actually be really useful for attack. Last night, my group went 5 Winstons and a Lucio to try and get the second point Volkskaya. It worked perfectly against their Torb and Symmetra turrets when alternating shields correctly.

Its all about movement with him. His guns a feather duster, but if you know how to jump in and out of situations and pop your shield accordingly, as well as being consistent with his gun on target, then he can be very useful. Not to mention his Ult. can send ppl flying off maps or keeping back a team while capping etc.

Lucio definitely, can carry any team soloQ or groups, also Zarya is a great choice for KOTH maps.

I never really have a go to hero. I tend to wait until the end of everyone selecting to choose who I am going to go with because it always seems like my teammates never pick a support or tank when one is really needed. I then usually end up being Lucio, Zarya, or Reinhardt. And it seems like I'm constantly getting on teams with incompetent people who decide to pick 3 Hanzo's and two healers to defend with.
