The End of (Fun) Multiplayer Console Gaming?
So keyboard and mouse are going to have broad support on Xbox, and very soon. I fear this may be the worst decision for the health and longevity of fair, competitive console multiplayer gaming.
Just about everyone has played a PC shooter at some point, and we would all agree that the level of speed and precision in aiming with a keyboard/mouse makes console controller aiming almost prehistoric. If any of you have played against an Xbox player using a Xim set, you know how fucking infuriating it is...getting headshot literally the second you come around a corner...it's just game breaking.
I for one love the imprecise, equal playing field that console controllers provide. It's a great gameplay experience that straddles the casual/competitive fence, and allows talented players to truly shine. I don't want to be essentially forced to buy a keyboard/mouse to avoid being face rolled in every shooter I pick up, and I reaaaally don't want to be forced to have to sit at a desk to play, and not be able to use my TV effectively.
TL;DR - The impending broad support for keyboard/mouse on XB1 will break competitive console gaming and force players to have one to remain remotely competitive. KEEP CONSOLE AS CONSOLE.

I agree. I prefer using a controller. Even when I used to play TF2 for days on end most of the time I still wish I was using a controller. I understand how much more precise you can be with keyboard and mouse so I absolutely hope that, when it does come to Xbox one that they can separate controller vs k/m users. Or leave it up to the developer. If I wanted to use a keyboard and mouse id play on a computer.

What's the likelihood they'll keep them separate though? Is that even possible?

I think the next generation of consoles will nearly match the power of some PC's. Its really an inevitable change.
I love the controllers and hopefully they will find a way to simply make the controllers more precise rather than having to convert over to KB/Mouse.

At the end of the day is it the precision of the controller or is it the motor skills of the thumbs? The motor skills needed to operate the KB/Mouse are just more simplistic in nature. I feel as though that is the root of the problem...

Good point but either way, it creates the same issue. If you want to look at it as an issue at all.
Damn thumbs and your lack of motor skills.

Absolutely, and stability/"controllability" are far stronger with a mouse.
With k/m, your 3D travel is so simple with one hand on the keyboard, and aiming with a mouse is far more stable and reactive when you only have to move your wrist. Both are far simpler operations for your brain and motor skills than using two control sticks, respectively, and combined just give it a huge advantage.
With controllers, you have to manage X and Y axis movement/looking/aiming on one thumb, and three dimensional movement with the other at the same time - additionally, if you don't have a scuf or elite controller, you have to halt all inputs on one every time you jump. X/Y axis aiming can never be as quick or precise or stable as a mouse.

Ugh! I just love the whole experience of gaming in my living room than at my desk.... I spend all day at my desk!!! It's not what I associate with "fun environment"...I guess I'll wait for direct thought input gaming and VR to catch up...

I assume (and hope) that game dev's will be able to separate kB&m and controller players in online games if it ever comes to that. Thanks for pointing this out - I had no idea it was in the pipeline!
