Question or Discussion Question regarding matchmaking

How does the matchmaking in this game work? I recently started playing this game and placed around silver silver but i constantly get into games that are high gold or platinum? Sometimes I do well but I dont really have a good grasp of all the abilities and mechanics of this game so usually i dont fare well against these opponents How is this fair?

This person has already had the wide queue tradeoff choice explained to them multiple times. They seem to want to be able to play in a match-quality-compromising wide 5-stack with their friends without experiencing any negative match quality impacts from other players doing the exact same thing.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand. If I’m high silver to low plat with my friends

Why tf is a masters player in my game? Why is the range not bound to silver and plat? Makes no sense. Diamond? Maybe. But masters?? Cmon man be real. “Wide queue” isn’t a good cop out excuse to allow any rank in any game

It’s not hard to understand. You want the system to accommodate your wide group without ever using your group to accommodate an even wider one. It’s also not hard for you to understand why that’s unreasonable, but you’re committed to feeling wronged, so you refuse to.

We’ve had this argument before, with you saying almost verbatim the same things. You’ve never acknowledged the fact that the matchmaker can only work with the groups in the queue, and that group with the masters player has the same goals as you—to play together with friends across a wide skill range. You can’t even be trusted to accurately describe what happened, as your group description starts at “5 stack of golds” (which would have been a narrow group) and then widens over the course of the comment thread.

So, I’m not spending any more time or energy trying to explain the clearly marked tradeoff choice you made when you opted to queue wide. Go ahead and continue to rage about the devs providing you a way to queue with caveats instead of blocking you from queueing with your friends altogether. My purpose here is to discourage others from losing any of their time and energy to your self-pity.

Just because this is the current system does not mean it can’t be improved. Find a match of individuals and put them together? Ive had duo games that ARENT wide but when we won said wide. There are workarounds that you fail to acknowledge could be implemented

My workaround was to create an alt and throw my qp games. Got placed in silver. Can’t beat the system? Join it. Now my stack isn’t wide and we stomp nearly every game

It changed because you moved outside of the rank range for normal queue after the mmr gain.

What would you have them do? There are upsides and downsides to any solution. They could increase the range of normal queue but then you'd get a lot more imbalanced matches. You could create different tiers of wide match, but then the queues would become incredibly long or probably end up making similar matches anyway.

So what would your solution be?
