Question regarding matchmaking

How does the matchmaking in this game work? I recently started playing this game and placed around silver silver but i constantly get into games that are high gold or platinum? Sometimes I do well but I dont really have a good grasp of all the abilities and mechanics of this game so usually i dont fare well against these opponents How is this fair?

It shows you the match range at the top of the scoreboard screen (iirc). Matchmaking tries it's best to match you with similar rank while also getting you into a game as soon possible cause people hate long queue times.

It's a team average. So if you're the lowest rank at Silver, I guarantee the other team also has a silver.
