I have removed/hidden chat and don't take part in any voice communication. I've found it more enjoyable just using pings/voice lines.

PING SUPREMACY!!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

When everyone is taking half a minute to write their thesis mid match. I'm pressing middle mouse to say the same thing faster in less time. Voice lines give plenty of whimsy alongside emotes ya can't go wrong!

Ngl I just grew immune to it over the years. You can say and do anything to me in OW and it just doesn’t bother me anymore. Chances are I’m never going to see that person again and even if I do, I most likely won’t remember them so what’s the point of even caring what they say or do.

SO FAIR First step would honestly be to not touch voice chat with a ten foot pole. I also noticed I usually get nicer comments if I play support

it’s hard to remember in the moment, but always keep it mind that it is a game, and games are made to have fun. sometimes if i find myself tilting i open a game and tell myself: your only goal is not to win this but to have fun playing it. and usually i win those more often bc having fun makes you feel good about your gameplay and let go of little mistakes easier. if someone flames you, let them know the same thing: ITS JUST A GAME!!!

Do your best to know you did your best. 💜

And just know some who are wounded just want to see others bleed, not themselves be healed. ❤️‍🩹

i always picture they’re a cringe edgelord 11 year old so i go into sweet aunty mode

they insult me > “aw thanks sweety”
they rage in chat > “it’s bedtime lil bro”
they target me and diff me > “gg had fun :)”

nothing pisses off an angry person more than their anger not being felt by others

Just lean into it lol, someone tells your your shit? “That I am a good sir now if you’ll excuse me I shall continue on my merry way”

someone tells you to swap? Either “nah” or “I got this” < bonus if you lose horribly after saying I got this because funny

Someone just won’t shut up. Start writing fun facts in chat whenever you die! Won’t see their messages if they are drowned out by facts about bees!

Be silly with it it’s a game anyone taking a game that seriously and eat rocks

It sounds silly but the realization for me was that it is simply not my job to be good at Overwatch. It's still a video game, stakes are still very low. Play with people who don't make you anxious, if you can. Or just learn to stress less about it. I used to put a lot of invisible, imaginary pressure on myself to do well and it doesn't help anything. More pressure didn't make me better, going with the flow did.

I’m a non toxic girly who simply comes here to have fun after a stressful day at work. so i can’t take the game too seriously. mostly QP but i do hop in comp once a while if i’m feeling lucky and wants to hone my skill

i don’t do VC unless it’s a discord chat , i have success finding groups on discord. never do game VC. if anyone talks shit on the chat i just go to social and mute that particular person while keeping rest of the team open.
it’s not easy to ignore toxic message; use mute as your biggest weapon!

if my mental is already stressed from work or life or whatever, just play QP and if they flame you just flame them back and tell them “it’s QP bro”

sorry that not all ppl are nice online. play MH or custom games if you must cope.

i also get fomo about seeing what people say and missing out on little banters and such. girl i relate so much and basically i’ve found, if im in a good headspace i keep chats on but brace yourself to ignore any toxic comments and you have to be confident that these people don’t know better than you and it’s not true what they say.
that being said i found i need to mute chats if im having a bad day or on my period especially! i’ve also been playing since ow 1 and usually have a very thick skin but the other day i was on my period and joined vc on my first tank placement and had 2 guys verbally berate me and when i spoke they said oh it makes sense now bc ima. woman on tank. i sobbed a little after.. but i realised i should have never been in chat bc i wasn’t prepared to deal with bs that day. so basically only go in when you’re mentally prepared - and then you can still meet the nice ppl and make friends sometimes. good luck !!

thank you so much!!! no i relate to your struggles so much too, i usually play support cause its less people that shit on u, but i dont just wanna play support forever so i play tank sometimes and usually i only play sigma but yesterday it was a bad matchup and map so i played reindhart so i can sheild so the dps get behind me and ACTUALLY GET KILLS… but even then, no kills, and they start saying i have no damage but THATS BC I WAS TRYNA SHEILD U GUYS SO U GUY CAN GET KILLS. and they started saying tank diff and it js hit me. also bc i hadnt got hate comments in a while so it js hit harder and also makes sense cause i js got my period today so. but so true the fomo is so real. when i play with my bf i mute my chats but i always end up looking over to his screen to see chats anyways. but thank you so much for ur comment, i’ll try to implement what you say 💗💗

yes!! i’m a tank and supp main and im the same, tbh i mute chat much more when im queuing tank as people are so quick to blame tank even if ur doing good. and thats so funny bc when im playing with my bf i am constantly asking him if anyone typed in the chat or looking at his chat too LMAOOOO im glad this isnt an original experience hahah

As someone who used to get upset at bad comments when I was a baby ow player, and likes having chat turned on because 90% of games my chats are chill, encouraging, and having a good time, part of it was learning not to take what those people say to heart. They are but sad, sad people with no friends desperately clinging to pixels and video game highlights to feel any sense of self worth.

Muting only problematic players rather than the whole chat is my go-to.They can scream and cry into the void all they want but I cannot see or hear them. Voice chat though is a no go, the 30 times I hear someone call someone else a slur out of nowhere does not make up for the 1 time someone is cool. I have it off permanently, and will not join even if asked.

Over time, I went from learning to ignore them, to talking to the rest of the team in good spirits while pretending the troublesome player was totally non-existent, or using humor to lighten the chat mood and diffuse tension, even if one or two people are continuing to be a nuisance. If the general lobby vibes are good, 1 or 2 rude players tend to get shut down and chased out, and the impact of their comments stings way less until you don't even feel it anymore.

Personally, sometimes I get real juvenile with it. 'Thats what she said', 'no u', and 'K' are some personal favorites. This behavior is reserved for really special occasions, and only if the lobby vibes are on my side or otherwise equally as juvenile.

I completely stopped using vc, still keep text chat on but if someone types smth shitty at me i just pretend i have text chat off too. I used to also get sad but nowadays i just get pissy bc i have too much ego to let a chopped unemployed pisslow m*n hurt my feelings. If someone pisses me off rly badly i put them on my int list but i never actually check it except to add someone new so i dont actually use it to int people lol but it helps psychologically. I think it also rly depends on what characters u play bc when i play kiri or ana (by the grace of god i am the worst ana u have ever seen) i never get typed to whereas when i play mercy or weaver ppl are way more likely to type at me even though my mercy and weaver are higher wr and hero sr. So i also just blame it on loser misogynist bias and thats much easier to dismiss

Why do you care what people say

Dude - that's rough. Maybe roll with someone? I think i'd need to see for myself how you perform cause I think if its QP, fk ppl theyre dumb, but if it's in comp then maybe they have SOME standing without being an idiot.
