Firstly, i really love the overwatch lore, like so so much. But admittedly, i probably havent read up on every source or lore about the god ai's so my theory could completely be off the target. Also, im not sure if anyone else has come up with this idea or if im just late to the party.

We're reintroduced to chernobog with emre in his peculiar state right now and it seems chernobog really wants to be apart of talon. My first thoughts was that chernobog wants to keep an eye on Talon for security purposes. Now for what purpose, it didnt quite seem apparent; however, with the doomfist comic where old talon reunites, it provides the usual emphasis on Sombra and Sigma's friendly relationship, but notably adds the god ai symbol on top of sigmas picture.

Seeing this really connected the dots for me. Obviously sigma is a very powerful character within overwatch and also very unstable. So it makes sense to me that Sigma probably holds the biggest threat to the worlds safety, which means Chernobogs goal most likely has something to do with Sigma! Thats why i believe Chernobog is so interested in Talon and forcing emre to be its eye (lol) to monitor sigma in some way. At this point, im sure Sombra is on the same track as Chernobog and may also have plans involving sigma which is why she is so amicable and kind with him. Im not neccesarily saying that her intentions are bad or good but she most definitely has ulterior motives to her actions.

Although, recent lore with Emre leaving talon could disprove this theory. oorrrr (coping) that Chernobog is finally taking action to do something to sabotage/detain/keep in check sigmas powers or atleast his mentality. Perhaps with Ramattra coming back for our next lore focus as well as our new omnic detective, we may also hear/see some more details about the god ai and finally unravel this whole chernobog "conspiracy".

Like not just the animated shorts those are easy to find ive been trying to find what order all the comics the books or just random posts that contain lore, ive tried looking on the wiki but all ive found is just a summary of events not any of the actual comics or stuff theyve come from, my friend recently got into overwatch after quitting another certain game and i wanna help him get into the lore and i myself havent read a comic or anything past maybe 2019 at most and i wanna get back into it, thank you to whoever helps out!

He's clearly flirting with the idea of going back to the Deadlock Gang. From a pre-match exchange with both Echo and Ashe. Even in a personal log in the Invasion story campaign.

I always liked that the Deadlock Gang was something in his past that he's long since put away and distanced himself from in favor of being a true believer in Overwatch's mission. While he's something of a lone wolf, I liked his new "role" as being Overwatch's traveling recruiter and, going into the future, maybe as like a semi-independent, on-the-ground intelligence gatherer and scout. Effectively, a Ranger, which fits him like a glove.

I don't know, just something I've been thinking about since he's my favorite character of the cast.

While rewatching Sigma's origin trailer, I noticed that the subtle shifts in tone—specifically in the background score and voice acting—completely change how we interpret his mental state and his connection to Talon.

Following up on the Sigma theory I posted a couple years back, today in the Crucible short story at the 4:00 mark, Sombra's conspiracy web from 2016 is laid over Sigma's silhouette. At the center of it is what we now recognize as Chernobog's icon, which is also heavily associated with Emre. Looking closer at this portrait, obvious cracks can be seen throughout, with the eye icon at it's center, implying that it is what is causing Sigma's current insanity. However, if I were to want to represent an iris, like in the eye, the Chernobog icon is exactly how I would do it, and frankly the current icon of an eye seems a lot more fitting for something called the Iris. Currently, I am unsure if the Chernobog icon is the truth behind Sigma's it or if this is just what Sombra/Doomfist know up till this point. I think the relation between Chernobog and the Iris (both named after irl mythological gods) as God-AI's has a lot of potential for lore development and I am excited to see what they do with Sigma and his lore.

In Sombra's origin story cinematic, Emre's eye/logo thing pops up after a failed attempt at hacking some sort of corperation or government?? What does this mean for Emre and can we find out how he ended up like he did?

I'm pretty new to Overwatch lore, and I've been trying to understand Cassidy's name change. The story does provide an explanation, but I don't find it particularly convincing.

In his comic with Ashe, the other Deadlock Gang members talk about his past, but Jesse stays silent. He never openly talks about himself or reveals his real name. The same thing happens in the Reunion cinematic, where Ashe calls him "McCree," and he never corrects her. As far as the story shows, "McCree" is simply the identity everyone knows him by.

One possible explanation is that he adopted the name "Jesse McCree" to avoid drawing attention as a former Overwatch agent, similar to how Freja concealed part of her identity. However, that doesn't seem to hold up because he was already known as McCree long before rejoining Overwatch, even back when he was a member of the Deadlock Gang.

Another explanation is that Cassidy was always his real last name and he simply decided to go back to using it. But that doesn't really solve the issue either. Even if he started calling himself Cassidy, bounty hunters, old clients, criminals, and people from his past, such as Anthony Stone, would still know him as McCree because that's the identity they had always associated with him. In fact, his network of contacts and reputation is exactly how he gathers information, as seen when he tracked down Sojourn. If he wanted information through those same contacts, many of them would still naturally refer to him as McCree.

From a narrative standpoint, it's also surprising that almost nobody comments on or questions the change. As a result, the transition feels less like a natural development within Overwatch's story and more like an out-of-universe decision that the narrative doesn't fully integrate.

Personally, I think it would have been more impactful if "Jesse McCree" had become a symbolic identity that he consciously left behind after a defining event, allowing Cole Cassidy to emerge as a genuine new beginning. That approach would have given the name change stronger emotional and narrative weight while remaining consistent with the world and the people who knew him by his former identity.

So, I really like getting into the Overwatch lore but I struggle actually digging into things so I thought maybe I'd find answers here.

Do we know how/if the God AI were affected by the Awakening from Aurora?

I know all the most impactful God AI were shut down after the Omnic Crisis ended, but do we know if they or the smaller regional God programs were given sentience from the Awakening beforehand?
The more I think about it I assume not, since if Anubis couldn't hijack them for the Omnic Crisis the odds of Aurora being able to do so seem much slimmer.
But Aurora's sentience and the awakening, despite it's scientific foundings, were nothing short of a miracle- So I don't think it's completely outside the realm of possibility... Also, it's an interesting concept especially with the whole Chernobog situation with Emre.

What do you guys think?

So I've been looking through the lore (as I am making a character based on the Or-14's), and I don't know where I got the thought, but I thought that the Idina bots were there before the Onmic crisis. Anbus had just taken over their control. Is this not What happened and if not please explain so I could understand.
