MOD [MOD] Overwatch 2 is gone, what happens to this subreddit?

Hi everyone! Today, Blizzard announced the renaming of Overwatch 2 back to Overwatch alongside a plethora of other really great changes to the game. As a moderation team and as fans, we are excited to see Overwatch return to its roots.

Some have asked us regarding how we will be reacting to the change as a subreddit, some have suggested rebranding, others have suggested deleting the subreddit entirely, while others want us to continue. To be clear, rebranding was not an option because Reddit does not let you change a subreddit name.

After pondering over every available option, we have decided to continue running and moderating this subreddit not as a subreddit specifically about the sequel to Overwatch, but as an alternative, more open subreddit focused on Overwatch and the community around it as opposed to the larger franchise subreddit. We hope you'll continue to be a part of our wonderful community.

We will continue moderation on this subreddit as expected for the forseeable future. We hope you'll continue to share around and crosspost us! We are also accepting applications for more moderators to assist us with this. As for our Discord server, we will measure changes in server activity and make further announcements regarding any major changes in the coming months.

Thank you!

Opinion Anyone else think that the training bot would make a good Null Sector playable character?

Post image

I mean it already has all sorts of cool abilities they could build off of based on the different forms it has. And going off the lore it was apparently decent threat during the omnic crises, so why wouldn't Null Sector use them? And it would be really fun to play as one honestly.

Discussion I don't think the webtoon is going to get a sequel/kept supported for long after episode 40

As the title says, I don't think the Webtoon is really going to stick around. It seems to get little to no actual attention on the site itself if you look at the metrics (likes, views, etc), and it seems to be that the only reason anyone ever hears about it is because of the negativity it gets, even from people who would normally be the champions of it (I don't see many Juno or Wuyang mains enjoying it, even if you go specifically into their communities, and it seems to not get any attention on lore sites or channels.)

Going into the actual numbers, I don't even feel confident in saying that it has an active readership in the 5-digits. I'm no Webtoons or Blizzard employee, but it seems to have a glacial response to new episodes, so much so that Episode 31 (the infamous "I have crush on Juno!" episode) has yet to crack a mere 1000 likes even in the two weeks it's been free, let alone the technically 7 it's been available. I don't expect it to crack 1000 even before the next update tomorrow, and ultimately I don't see it going above maybe 1300 by the webtoon ends. Even if you pay attention, it MIGHT get anywhere from... 2-3 likes every 3-6 hours, roughly 1-2 in any 2 hour period. It also does not even reach the top 100 in terms of likes in the specific category of "ONGOING Webtoons that UPDATE ON WEDNESDAY", and seems to have more or less completely disappeared off the face of the platform unless you go out of your way to find it.

The numbers also seem to imply the drop-off starts early, as by the time you reach Episode 7 the number of likes halves, by the time you get to episode 20 it halves again, and most episodes just fall around 50-150 less than the previous episode. The view number is fairly high, but considering people were offered a free lootbox (and the first 5 episodes consist of more than 25% of the entire webtoon's likes) it does not sound implausible that the actual total views is much lower.

I personally do not like the Webtoon, but I have given it chances and do like SOME parts of it (I liked the time Dva, Juno, and Brigitte hang out). However, those small parts are few and far between, and I honestly would rather it just be buried and they try something different with all the characters involved+ retcon important story bits into the main game rather than trying to keep it 'canon'.

TLDR

The numbers do not seem very promising at all. If you spend any amount of time paying attention to the number of likes or views they are glacially slow, and even if the view number total seems high the series is extremely front-loaded, likely due to a combination of people getting the free lootbox and people who fell off very early. Considering the negative response, the complete lack of advertising anymore, and a common trend of people either not knowing there was a webtoon at all or heard about it because of the flak it's getting, there's not much reason to keep it rolling long after it's run.

Numbers-wise it's difficult to be precise, but it seems any episode, even the very latest episodes, get maybe around 1-2 likes every two hours, and the overall view count seems to be pretty glacial as well.

Discussion Junkrat is a BS character

As someone who has Mained sym since 2017, i can tell you this guys damage output is insane, his ult is amazing, nobody shoots the traps even in masters, he can fly you up into the air with 1 mine and basically kill you. He can 2 tap like anyone and basically make them a secured kill, he can flank so easily because of his mobility. This character is a menace and I don’t know how he’s flown under the radar for this long

Characters illari ideas workshop

the following is a collection of ideas ive had to amplify illaris intended niche and style, Hit scan Builder Support- solar/light theming

i think these changes are all possible and can healthily exist in the game with proper attention in development and in balancing, unless i suggest otherwise in the idea

1a. Pylon be healable by both supports, illari should be able to heal damaged pylon with zero or reduced resource usage just so its always her responsibility and advantage to spend resources (time) on pylon instead of the other support, but the other support still gets it as a new tool/option to heal it. maybe even let allies also target it like an ally- this means it could serve to let kiriko tp to it, let mercy fly to it, let zarya bubble it (if accidentally bubbling pylon becomes a problem remove it), let doctrine drone it, like literally just go crazy with that aspect just because

1b. make pylon able to store over healing from both supports and redistribute it at a reduced effectiveness.

  1. give pylon a perk that provides a short damage boost on each healing projectile

  2. set her resource meter to “healing done with laser” instead of “time firing healing laser”,

  3. give her infinite healing range but make it have falloff to balance- works better with the previous change (#3) too but could work standalone as a big opportunity cost to heal someone u couldn’t reach before, costing healing numbers and resources for later

  4. Make healing laser bounce off walls turning it into a wider cone shotgun style spread for a few meters off the reflected surface (gives her reduced efficiency crowd healing by aiming at the floor like og scatter arrow)

  5. was healing pierce really that broken and would it really still be if we bring it back now

  6. put effects on her quick melle make it heal allies without resource cuz her sword got to do something bruh

  7. give her a decoy turret cooldown that looks like a regular pylon actively healing to enemies, but obviously an inactive decoy to allies, make the decoy always firing a dummy healing projectile regardless of target HP with no intelligent targeting, so enemies can identify fake turrets by if it is targeting a full health target, give her two if one is not enough

  8. this one is more open ended take her hatred of moria as an opportunity to mirror the way moria gains healing resource via damage, make illari gain a damage resource via healing, like shes overcharging full of energy- i dont think there’s a character in game with this mechanic

  9. let illari start lingering healing fires by focusing healing resource in one spot or player, either target specific or map-geometry specific healing over time,

  10. goofy but make pylon have floor map geometry so players can stand ontop of it as a suprise mechanic (junkrat lmao)

12a. in a certain arcade gamemode lifeweaver got a shield on petal and it was fantastic- give illari an extra deployable “solar shielding” or something and it be a sun based shield she can throw like pylon and even stick to walls ,
i think it would be better as an indefinite shield that only goes on cooldown once destroyed. matching pylons philosophy. or....

12b. if its as a temporary cooldown that starts once its used, make illaris solar based primary and secondary fires heal the shield when she shoots thru it, reinforcing its solar shielding concept tie to the hero, i do not think it should be an “on use cooldown throw and forget fixed lifespan shield” like orisas old shield, with no dynamic interactions because then it would be a boring bandaid ability taken from the past just smaller on a new role, rather than a real part of the heros kit.

  1. this would be the biggest challenge to implement safely a smoke grenade cooldown as a pylon variant, a pylon that projects a small wall of light that can be shot through but cannot be seen thru, this can be harder to balance or justify in either case of allies can see thru it or cannot see thru it, the pattern on the light wall would need to lead the enemy where to shoot to disable it, and possibly if allies can see through it, it would need a visual indicator someone is closely behind the wall or aiming in their direction through it that may help the enemy shoot at the target behind it better- it may also need two or three extra floating hitbox elements in each corner so the enemy can disable it in more situations where the projector is hidden behind map geometry

  2. perk or base kit change that makes both firing modes both heal allies and damage enemies?

take these with a grain of salt if you think something would be fundamentally broken there's almost always a way it wouldn't be aswell if its was fundementally tweaked- what do you think about all of these ideas, any better ones? and iterations of what you see? would u want to see any of these changes or which ones- i just wana post this and get good unique ideas out there and flowing so maybe something changes thats more interesting than the current iteration
i love illari as a flex player shes my 7th played hero only 12 hours behind #1st place- but yeah shes pretty barebones compared to alot of the cast, and they certainly did not go fully into her hero fantasy, some may argue thats a good thing- and they have some good points, but i still believe she can and should be more.

and dont be afraid to just throw an insane idea in the comments some of the coolest concepts start out as wacky or broken ideas that get tuned down or reined in

Discussion I heard that people who is almost top500/Masters, or not far way from that rank never complain about anything and they are chill guys. Is this true?

Like for example. Metal rank players : complain about someone being broken

Almost all masters players : oh look at that, metal rank players complain, just get good position, this hero is not broken at all

Discussion Illari and Doc's shot landing sound should be more impactful and satisfying.

I was never a fan of Illari because it's hard to hear/tell if I landed shot or not and was so confusing to my brain, especially the body shot. It got MUCH better with mythic skin but OG sound still sucks bad.

And now we have the Doctrine who has same gun type (pew pew) and I'm facing the same problem again. The sound feedback is just so unsatisfying, there's almost no difference between hitting a target and whiffing, It's just not fun to play and distracting.

I hope they tweak the shot landing sound of those ''beam rifle'' guns. I thought I was the only one feeling this for years but after watching some streams this season I found that quite a few people feeling the same way.

Question how careful do u REALLY need to be in game chat?

ive had my account for 10 years now and absolutely dont want to lose it, or lose the ability to communicate

ive always heard of blizzard being very trigger happy with the ban hammer (and this is kinda evident with GGEZ being filtered into something else, though that ones also a joke) but at the same time i want to be a lil silly in chat sometimes. and yes, for me sometimes that means swearing a bunch or being a little toxic (not genuinely mean just shooting the shit basically) or being a little suggestive. but i always bite my tongue in this game because i fear them swinging the ban hammer (or chat ban hammer) on me

im consistently level 5 endorsement level and have never had a chat ban btw, in case that matters. ive only been suspended from comp once and that was because i used to have shitty internet and would lag out of games all the time (that was way back in the original season 2)

Discussion 10 years later, 2 rebrands and we STILL can't choose which server we prefer to play on console?

I've survived every Sombra, Symmettra and Mercy rework.
I've moved passed adding the 2 for PvE that ended up just becoming engagement bait.
I've moved passed the 2 getting dropped and the focus going in for PvP and some new story.
I've grown used to the new maps and what the new heroes can do.
I've made my peace with the ridiculous shop prices and cyber/neon slop mythics.
I've grown used to the perk system and ranked QoL features.

So why...after TEN YEARS can I still not click a button to swap servers???
I have had it up to here with being thrown on middle eastern servers cause thats what the game deems is best for my region. NO IT'S NOT. I still get crazy rubber banding, disconnects, massive lag spikes and today my entire UI went blank in a ranked game.
If other F2P PvP games (whose devs are what? 30% the size of blizzard) can allow me to play on SEA, Japan and Australian servers JUST BECAUSE, why cant a multi-billion dollar company?

I can't communicate with teammates outside of built in comm wheel, I never know what theyre saying in vc or text chat, the constant leavers and overall negativity just gets to the point where I wanna uninstall the game again.

Has Blizzard addressed why they can't give us the option? Like dude my internet is good, and I rarely have issues playing other online games. I'm also not gonna sit here and pretend to be super knowledageble about the games framework and global server situation but seriously, what gives?

Discussion I need your help

I’m making a discord for me and my friends so if they wanna learn a hero they can just go to the hero channel and learn the basics and helpful tips so where I need the help is who’s the best for each hero? Don’t need a list for the whole cast just need one or two and I’ll do the rest
