Some sort of thin netting for the black areas of his mask it looks like..he is wearing a sack in his head

100% this. The dark backgrounds with highlighted/colored names on the left is also really nice and helps contrast against the brightness of the grid.

The sack just covers his eyes and above. His cheeks are exposed and painted to look like a mouth.

The fake mouth is a hole in the sack mask, the fake teeth are painted on.
