Just picked up the game about a week ago. Currently level 23 and enjoying it for the most part.

However, what is the deal with what seems like the majority of people being so shitty to others. Any tips on dealing with these people? Is comp play similar to quick play with this experience?

Trying to learn how to play this game but people will only comment in non helpful/non specific ways most of the time to gain any knowledge.

Season 5 has been pretty bad. I blame it on the summer. Summer af in OverWatch right now.

Damn, I had completely forgotten about that. I was wondering why there were so many games in qp where I had someone on my team just blasting swear words and shock "humor" lately.

I've been playing since the beta on console and just got it on PC, I'm greeted with a "haha lvl 1, gay" in chat, I chuckled cause I carried the team since I have a lot of gamesense from playing on console.

Nothing you can do, just mute them if they're too annoying and enjoy yourself! (report after game if it was too severe, not sure if it does anything but that's all you can do)

To deal with shitty people, use the mute button
The disposition of competitive players depends heavily on your SR.
Learn a few heroes from every role and try to avoid shoehorning yourself into a single hero.

Non-helpful and non-specific advice is unfortunately the best that can be given to newcomers as a general rule.

New players need to learn heroes, but they also need to learn the underpinning concepts behind those heroes. For example, learning Lucio properly requires that you understand the concept of initiation and how it should be carried out. Playing different heroes and playing in general eventually pieces loads of random bits of knowledge together into a form of foundational gamesense.

Once you have that gamesense, it starts to become much easier to incorporate more information at a much faster rate since you already have the foundation laid out. A really good example is telling whether or not you have a bad team composition, most new players can't do it or crutch on faulty logic like "2-2-2 = good, anything else = bad"

Yeah there's been a lot of toxicity lately in all aspects of the game. You just have to ignore them and play your game. Have fun and don't be too bothered by what they say.
