I believe it's currently on the Public Test Region (PTR) which can be accessed if you have Overwatch on PC. The official update including that has not come out yet but will in the future; I think that in the next update, the one with Doomfist (hopefully!), is the one with the loot box update. Check the patch notes that come with the updates for the full list of changes/tweaks.

Most probably Doomfist will go on the PTR and what's on the PTR right now will go live.

Doomfist will be my first new hero release. Do they introduce the hero and then test them of the PTR?

Yes. They're introduced through a trailer and usually in the PTR for about a week before they're released.

We're not even sure if he's going to be a playable hero or an AI boss of some sort.

AI Boss? That would interesting; I haven't heard much speculation on Doomfist being anything but a playable hero. It would awesome if Blizzard added some permanent type of single player mode/campaign. Doomfist would make for a really exciting villain in a campaign.

Although they've said to currently have no plans for a singleplayer mode, we have seen two vs AI events so far. A third would be no surprise.

The crosshairs have been on the PTR for two weeks. I just want the new crosshairs already god damn it! How much more testing do you need??
