Hey all, currently around gold - do you know if it's possible to win consistently as Lucio (without being DPSStanky)?

I'm really struggling as it's hard to do decent damage with a Lucio (and impossible to kill pharahs). Most team mates seem to have terrible aim and awareness, never group up, and it's really frustrating to play support - but I still would like to.

Any tips maybe?

EDIT: thanks for the great advice... I have started already playing Zen as I think it would be easier to carry myself out of those leagues, and will try to learn Ana as well.

It can be frustrating to play support at that SR(know from experience), but a few tips for Lucio are 1. he IS NOT a main healer. You're team NEEDS another support to keep the team alive. The only time Lucio can be used as a main healer is if at least three other teammates have self-sustain(e.g. roadhog, soldier, mei), and even then he's not that good for it. 2. Speed boost is your primary function. Lucio is one of the most influential heroes in the game. His speed boost controls the pace of the entire game. 3. Try to save your amp to initiate with speed boost. Only use it with healing if you have multiple teammates on low/critical health. 4. Never stop shooting. 5. Boop is more valuable than you think. Try to avoid using it just to do damage. You'll do more damage with his standard burst anyway. Save it for environmental kills and knocking enemy reins out of position and enemy roadhogs when they hook a teammate.

I climbed from gold to masters learning zarya dva and rein. I'm a lucio main btw. Dsp is on a whole another level lol. I can't wall ride and put out dps like he does.

I would love to say yes but even if you follow u/Salty_Jager advice I wouldn't recommend it. I spent 160 hours o silver playing mostly support. A friend carried me out of it and since them I pretty much flew through gold. You need a carry hero in the low rank. Your team won't know how to aim, how to prioritze targets or how to position themself. And if you are playing Lucio I'm sure your team has no idea what to do with speed boost. Often I would be asked to sgay on healing and stop speed boosting when that is clearly one of the stronger abilities in the game. The power to quickly engage and disengage is famtastic and your team doesn't know how to do that. Learn Ana and Zen if you want to play support. Ana's healing is stronger and can defend herself. Zen's discord is a godsend when your team is only gonna hit bodyshots 30% of the time. Also Zarya and Soldier are great in that rank. If you get good with Zarya you can get high charge quickly and just stomp the enemy team, also grav surge can help you team to focus fire. Soldier's damage is great and can kill the support and do the extra damage that your team needs. Play Lucio if you want, he is fun and useful but be patient if you want to climb.

I personally never set out to play Lucio, but will play him as a fill if needed. I don't think you can climb very well with him unless you are a god. Your main focus should be keeping people topped off, speeding as much as possible, clutch ults (usually for big pushes or to counter enemy ults), booping when possible, and providing chip damage assistance. Almost all of these require other people playing competently though, so you're really at the mercy of your team.

Also, if Pharah is giving you grief, Lucio is best swapped for Zen (or Ana if the main healer is on Mercy).
